Off-topic: Howto decrypt OpenSSL file in Win32 environment

Hi all, I supose the subject is descriptive enough. In a CentOS server I do the next to make the daily backups: tar cfv - dir_data/ | openssl enc -e -salt -aes256 -pass pass:$PASSWORD -out backup_file.bin So I get an well-encrypted and tared file. If I want to decrypt and the file is easy in Unix/Linux environment: openssl enc -d -aes256 -in backup_file.bin | tar xfv - -C dir_what_you_want/ But the problem I currently have is I don't know how to make it in Win environment. ?¿?

Dear All, In Redhat 7.2 kick start installation,badblocks check for HDD is working on creating partition. But in Centos badblocks check is not working in kick start installation. Badblocks check command in kickstart file part / --fstype ext3 --badblocks --size 1000 part /home --fstype ext3 --badblocks --size 12000 part /usr --fstype ext3 --badblocks --size 9000 part swap --size 1000 part /backup --fstype ext3 --badblocks --size 12000 --grow Please send me a solution for badblocks check command for CentOS and please help me it is very urgent reply immediatly to solve this. --Regards S.Balaji

Storage/SCSI Error on our CentOS server

Hi, Currently we are running CentOS 4.x on a 2-way Opteron machine. This machine, through a SCSI host adapter (Adaptec), is connected to a 2TB storage unit (an external RAID-5 disk array) Until our recent unintentional power trip, everything was fine and smooth. We have been experiencing complication accessing the storage ( it could be either intermittent filesystem error, partition could not be mounted in read-write mode, unacceptable writing speed, etc ), especially when we start to 'write' on the storage. After a few check, we are suspecting either : 1) the storage unit (but the storage control panel did not report any disk/raidset failure) is failing or, 2) the SCSI host adapter is failing, or 3) the filesystem itself is corrupted (we did 'fsck.ext3 -v -f' but it turned out it did not find any errors) ..but we are not sure which one.We did received 'messages' which we never experience previously in our 'dmesg' . (please refer below) Based on the above info and the below 'dmesg' output, we'd appreciate if somebody could share and help us to identify what actually went wrong and how could fix it (if possible)? Making VNC run on port 8080 on Centos 3.4

Hi Friends, I am trying to run vnc on port 8080 on Centos 3.4 . There are no kde or gdm packages installed as we only need xserver. I have installed XFree86-font-utils-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-base-fonts-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-xdm-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-libs-data-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-libs-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-xfs-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-Mesa-libGL-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-xauth-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-truetype-fonts-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-Mesa-libGLU-4.3.0-78.EL XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.3.0-78.EL vnc vnc-server and I want to run vnc only one for 1 user but with multipe client connections. Upgraded BackupPC (3.0.0) in the Testing Repository

There is an upgraded BackupPC in the testing repository. It is version 3.0.0, which was released in January. The setup differences between version 2.1.2 and this version is that some file directories have shifted locations: 1. /var/lib/backuppc/conf is now instead /etc/BackupPC/ 2. /var/lib/backuppc/log is now /var/log/BackupPC =============================== If you are upgrading ... you _CAN_NOT_ just copy your old config.pl config file into /etc/BackupPC can continue on ... you need to migrate in any changes that you made to original file to this config.pl file as there are updated options in the new file. How is the best way to do that ... you did save a copy of the original file prior to changing it ... right :P If not ... here is what I did: ----commands---- cd /tmp mkdir backuppc cd backuppc wget http://dev.centos.org/centos/4/testing/i386/RPMS/backuppc-2.1.2-3.c4.centos… rpm2cpio backuppc-2.1.2-3.c4.centos4.i386.rpm | cpio -idv ----end commands----- You should be in /tmp/backuppc and you should see all the files (extracted) from the original RPM in there ... inside the /tmp/backuppc/var/lib/backuppc/conf/ should be an original config.pl file. You can use that file to create a diff file that you can read to make changes to the new config.pl file. here is what I did prior to upgrade: ----commands---- cd /var/lib/backkuppc/ cp -a conf conf.bak cp -a logs logs.bak cd conf.bak cp /tmp/backuppc/var/lib/backuppc/conf/config.pl config.pl.orig diff config.pl.orig config.pl > config.pl.diff ----end commands---- Now you are ready to upgrade ... you will need to enable the testing repo to do the upgrade (or download the files manually and install manually via RPM). How to do the upgrade via yum: Put the testing repo file into /etc/yum.repos.d/ : http://dev.centos.org/centos/4/CentOS-Testing.repo (the file is disabled by default) Once you have the file in place, use this command: ----commands---- yum --enablerepo=c4-testing upgrade backuppc perl-Compress-Zlib perl-File-RsyncP perl-Time-modules perl-XML-RSS ----end commands---- (that command in all on one line if it wraps in your mail client) You can use that diff file from above to manually add new changes to the /etc/BackupPC/config.pl file after upgrade. Also after upgrade, you can move all the files in /var/lib/backuppc/log/ to /var/log/BackupPC/ Once everything is configured ... restart backuppc and httpd Once everything is working, you can get rid of the following directories in "/var/lib/backuppc/" ... conf, conf.bak, log, log.bak If you are installing new, replace "upgrade" with "install" in the above yum command ... and see the README.centos file in /usr/share/doc/backuppc-3.0.0/ after install Here is the original announcement, which also has good info: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2006-April/002216.html Thanks, Johnny Hughes

DVD rom questions

I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine. I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and find that it mounts /dev/cdrom1 on /mnt/cdrom1, regardless of what type media is in the drive. Does this sound proper? Should I mknod(?) something for the /dev/dvd device and if so, what should be the parms? I then tried to find a movie viewer on the machine, and only found mplayer. I couldn't get it to work properly due to the configuration options (not a very powerful machine). What does anyone use for a DVD viewer? And lastly, what are recommendations for implementing the lightscribe functions that exist on the drive? Any help is very graciously appreciated.
