Unfortunately this did not happen in this case. OpenOffice.org will issue a detailed analysis once a copy of the virus has been received. However, due to the volume of interest in the media, the Community would like to issue the following comments, based on the information available. Macros are a useful part of any office suite, allowing users to automate repetitive tasks. These tasks include potentially destructive actions such as modifying and deleting files, which is why macros are of interest to virus writers. It is possible in any capable macro language, including those in OpenOffice.org, to write simple 'virus-like' programs. Currently, OpenOffice.org follows industry best practice to mitigate the risk. If the software detects macros in a document being opened, by default it displays a warning and will only run the macro if the user specifically agrees. In any macro-capable tool, it is essential to verify the origin and authenticity of the document before executing macros. To this end, OpenOffice.org has also included advanced digital signature capabilities. The OpenOffice.org engineers take the security of the software very seriously, and will react promptly to any new issues. To do this, they require access to the source code for the alleged virus. From information currently available, it is unlikely that this new virus contains any novel features which would require a software patch. Technically, it is not even a virus, as it is not "self-replicating" - with OpenOffice.org's default settings, it cannot spread without user intervention. However, the OpenOffice.org community repeats the consistent message from security experts that users should never accept files from unknown sources. converting system to raid1

Hello, I've got a single-drive CentOS5 system with two partitions on it, a 101 mb boot, and the rest of the disk as an lvm volume, two partitions in it, / and swap. I've got another disk, same size, and i'd like to add it in as a primary slave drive and convert this system to raid1 for redundancy. I do not want to reinstall this box, which is what the docs i've read say it's easiest to do. Some elude to a procedure, hard yes, time consuming with copying probably, that can do it. Has anyone done this? Thanks. Dave.

CentOS5 and VMware

I have the 6 CDs for CentOS 5, and I have installed it on a couple of computers without any problem. I just tried to create a virtual machine under VMware 5.5.4, it goes through the 1st CD without problem, and crashes on the 2nd CD for Xorg. Vsftpd & Iscsi - fast enough

To extend space on our 64-bit centos FTP servers, we are considering setting them up to work with an existing PromiseRAID system via iscsi. -just curious if anyone here knows if iScsi is fast enough to serve up all the images? -might it be something where we get dedicated cards and put the iScsi traffic on its own Vlan? Just curious if this would hold up under alot of traffic, like weather images and the like... -karl

iptables patch-o-matic

Hi, I am trying to install some additional iptables modules on a CentOS 5 Box (imq, tarpit, geoip). Can anyone recommend a version of patch-o-matic-ng that works well with the CentOS 5 kernel sources (2.6.18-8.1.4)? The most current version (patch-o-matic-ng-20070521.tar.bz2) does not compile. With patch-o-matic-ng-20061128.tar.bz2 I could at least get tarpit working but geoip and imq seem to be missing. Did anyone build these on CentOS 5? You wouldn't want your users filling up the whole disk and bringing the system to a crawl or halt, or the log files from the web server doing the same, would you? So, give them separate spaces that cannot be trespassed! Some distributions of Linux automatically create this partitioning scheme when you choose Instalation Type=Server.

Hi All, Can anybody help me in building a initrd*.img in CentOS 5 for Intel SATA driver. More Details: I have a driver package downloaded from the Intel Web site: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/s3000ah/index.htm It is for an Intel motherboard S3000AH using the embedded RAID controller. We need this driver to work with CentOS5. I'd like to get help with the following: - Compile the attached driver package against a standard CentOS5 kernel and provide a driver module. - Description of the procedure on how this is done. java packages - tomcat5?

Have the jpackage-packaged things like tomcat5 been moved into the disto repositories? Do they work with sun java? In particular, tomcat5 used to require jta. The one yum installs doesn't mention it now, but it also doesn't work with sun java 1.5 installed the jpackage way. What am I missing? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

kannel on CentOS 5

Hi, has anybody out there who has setup kannel on CentOS 5. I just installed from src.rpm pls see below for installed rpms. [root@mailgw ~]# rpm -qa |grep kannel kannel-1.4.1-2.rf kannel-debuginfo-1.4.1-2.rf kannel-devel-1.4.1-2.rf I want to setup kannel for sending SMS via a web browser on this CentOS 5 box. I googled a lot. But I could not find a lot of info. I think I need an external modem as well. What type of external modem do u recommend? Pls see below for my /etc/kannel.conf file.
