[yum] problem with columns width output

Hi, I have a package named like this : httpd.i386 2.0.59-1.el4s1.5.el4.c centosplus As you see, version is too long for the column width. I tried to export COLUMNS with a higher value : no change. Any idea ? -- Martin

CentOS 5.0 suspend to disk (hibernate)

The RHEL 5 release notes for their desktop version claim "Improved ACPI support with features such as suspend to disk" but this isn't working with CentOS 5. I've installed all the packages and updates for CentOS 5 i386 on a ThinkPad T43 but when selecting suspend, Gnome pops up a URL to a site that didn't seem to give a solution. Gnome makes an entry in /var/log/messages indicating that the suspend button was pressed, immediately followed by the "Resuming computer" message. Suspend to ram and suspend to disk work on Ubuntu 6.10 on this machine with an older kernel (2.6.17-10-generic) than CentOS 5 has. Are there some packages or a different kernel that should be installed? Will this feature be added to CentOS 5 or is it considered a server distro that doesn't need this? Thinkwiki.org mentions the swsusp program but it seems to be absent. CentOS 4 and CentOS 5 have been running well on this machine but having the suspend feature would be very nice. snmpd log messages

I updated to CentOS 4.5 yesterday and now I am finding the snmpd daemon is logging reams and reams of these messages: May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: Connection from - 127.0.0.1 May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: transport socket = 12 Is there a way to turn off this useless logging? I am getting these every 5 minutes (every time MRTG updates my MailScanner statistics). So far what I tried was to take off the -a switch when starting snmpd. That didn't help. This snmpd behavior is new from CentOS 4.4. -- Paul (ganci(a)nurdog.com)

building cobbler on centos

Is it difficult to build cobbler on Centos or should I just go with Fedora on this one? Basically, if you have experience succeeeding at this, can you drop me a link to a Howto or describe the issues? I am only writing this because I tried, and ran into quite a few dependency issues with upstream/downstream packages, and would rather concentrate on just getting a nice working Cobbler (and Puppet too for that matter). Not looking for responses for the sake or responses per se, -i'm happy to do what's needed, but not seeing any repos for it either so.... -krb

CentOS 5 and Java

Hi, I just installed CentOS 5 on a few machines, to experiment with it. I have some trouble installing a Java plugin for Firefox. I've searched through the forum and read the various info at jpackage.org, and I'm a bit confused. 1) Can you point me to some reliable bit of information, even if it's laconic? 2) If I understand the info on http://jpackage.org/yum.php correctly, Java is not yet available for CentOS 5. core 2 duo motherboards and centos 4

from my googling around, it doesn't look there is a single motherboard that supports core 2 duo and works without patches or tweaks. is that true? the main thing we want is: core 2 duo support 4g of 800mhz (or better) ram sata gig ether with pxe boot we can live without pata or usb for a while. we've tried intel 965 and asus p5b based boards with various levels of ease of install, but all required some kind of driver update, which just isn't acceptable to us. well, i guess it could be acceptable if it could be built in to a pxe boot setup, but so far i haven't found any docs to even let me understand how hard/easy that might be. does v5 support any of these boards better?

Fedora Directory Authentication on CentOS 5

Hi, I am trying to set up a Fedora Directory server for centralised authentication. I configure the directory server, add a user called (via the Java GUI) test and then, using system-config-authentication, enable LDAP on both tabs. I then try to log-in using the test account I set up on the directory, but I get an error message in /var/log/messages: May 30 16:28:27 ds1 sshd(pam_unix)[4445]: check pass; user unknown May 30 16:28:27 ds1 sshd(pam_unix)[4445]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=localhost.localdomain which seems to indicate that it cannot find the user in the directory. data corruption on AMD AM2 systems with 4GB of RAM or more

Anybody know if the fix for the incorrect kernel behaviour that leads to data corruption will be available for RHEL4/5 kernels?
