tripwire / .xauth$$$$ problem on Centos5

Dear All, I'm using Centos5 to run a firewall, and as part of the intrusion detection apparatus, I use tripwire (tripwire-2.4.1.1-1.fc6.x86_64.rpm - as made for fedora core 6, and then tweaked with my own twpol.txt). My problem, is that when I su to root, a .xauth file is created with a random tail name - i.e. /root/.xauthyN4aHS or /root/.xauth1sGdFh and this causes tripwire to trigger. I can stop sshd from X forwarding to prevent .xauth files, but that's a really bad solution. And I can't see any mention of being able to use wildcards in the the tripwire policy file. Potential solutions are: 1) force the .xauth$$$$ file to live in a directory below root, as I can tell tripwire to ignore this path. 2) stop the .xauth files having a random name However I can't get a grip on how to control the creation of the .xauth file: I've tried adding XAUTHORITY=/root/xauth/xauth to /root/bashrc and this does not work, so any ideas are welcome! Have I down loadded the correct manuals?

Hi Folks I'm just installing CentOS 5 and while the install is in progress I went to your site and down loaded the pdf manuals. I have jst opened the installation guide and its a Red Hat 5 manual. As some e-mails ago, I'm trying to play beryl in my laptop. I successfully configured my xorg.conf (thanks to the comunity for the help that allowed me that). The problem: When I boot the laptop without external LCD/CRT, beryl is working fine, but when I boot it with the external, it recognice fine the external LCD and don't want to allow beryl run. I have a Radeon X600. I don't stand fine how I can change that "things" you said. Could you explain a bit how can I change that parameters? What configuration files / programs must I change/run? How? As I said, I have no knowledge about Xorg graphics architecture or any graphics related parameters. I can change any xorg parameter, or any configuration file using your help (or any link that anybody post here). But I think, at this point, my xorg.conf is well configured (thanks to the xorg buys for their help) and must be any other configuration file or perhaps I must think in wait for a new beryl release or a new driver release. I don't know yet. Conclusion: 1) I only can use beryl (with this videocard) in a resolution less than 2048x2048 (adding the 2 screens resolution). 2) In the future, perhaps beryl do the trick. ata problem

gconf-settings for compiz get overwritten

Hi! I'm having a problem with compiz on a Centos5-machine (I know compiz is only "Beta", but it looks soooo cool). When I use the gconf-editor to edit settings of the plugins (for instance /apps/compiz/plugins/scale/allscreens/options/initiate_edge) they work as expected, they get written to the correct file in ~/.gconf, but the next time I log in the are reset to the default value that is described in the .schema-file (in /etc). Is there a way to fix these values without editing the (system-wide) schema file? Thanks for listening

CentOS 4.4 hangs after yum update

Hello: I have a server running CentOS 4.4. I just did a yum update and then rebooted the server. After the reboot, it stops after printing GRUB on the screen. Any ideas what happened? Snare client and 64-bit CentOS 5?

I've installed 64-bit snare client 1.1.1 from sourceforge on a 64-bit installation of CentOS 5. I learned that at least previous versions were configurable via a web connection to localhost:6161, but starting firefox and trying http://localhost:6161 reveals an endless attempt at the connection. nmap -sT -sU -p 0-65535 localhost reveals port 6161/tcp and 6161/udp as filtered. Firewall is enabled with the exception of 6161 tcp and udp, along with SELinux. Is snare client still configurable via localhost:6161? If so, why is it filtered? The machine has been rebooted many times for other configuration reasons, thus the firewall exception, I would think, would have opened the port. I did also disable the firewall, rebooted, and still no web connection - firefox just hangs trying to connect. Thanks for any insights/assistance. Scott
