Hello I have a newbie question, given a centos 5 installation, An 5 very large disk arrays ( 2.5Tbytes each ) - Is there a way to suspend or stop the fsck during the boot up? The system seems to pick the most inopportune time to decide to reach the check count limit... and with this many disks, a reboot takes several hours... which is an eternity when your boss is looking over your shoulders for data right now! A ^c worked under version 4 - but has no affect on version 5 Thanks in Advance Dan

Hi, I am running squid as a TRANSEPARENT PROXY WITH SQUID 2.5 on CENTOS 4.5. Pls see below for squid.con file. http_port 3128 cache_mem 64 MB cache_dir ufs /var/spool/squid 100 16 256 cache_access_log /var/log/squid/access.log cache_log /var/log/squid/cache.log cache_store_log /var/log/squid/store.log # INSERT YOUR OWN RULE(S) HERE TO ALLOW ACCESS FROM YOUR CLIENTS # Example rule allowing access from your local networks. Adapt # to list your (internal) IP networks from where browsing should # be allowed acl mynet src 192.168.101.0/24 http_access allow mynet httpd_accel_host virtual httpd_accel_port 80 httpd_accel_with_proxy on httpd_accel_uses_host_header on I am ruunnig itables on the SAME BOX. I have added below rules for squid. #Redirecting traffic destined to port 80 to port 3128 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth2 --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 3128 #For squid traffic to Accept iptables -A INPUT -i eth2 -d 192.168.101.254 -p tcp -s 192.168.101.0/24--dport 3128 -j ACCEPT Evrything works fine. Now, I am ging to upgrade CENTOS 4.5 to CENTOS 5. It comes with SQUID 2.6. But, squid.conf file in SQUID 2.6 has no below lines. httpd_accel_host virtual httpd_accel_port 80 httpd_accel_with_proxy on httpd_accel_uses_host_header on So, I want to know how to setup squid as a TRANSEPARENT PROXY, when it comes to SQUID 2.6. any idea? -- Thank you Indunil Jayasooriya

Postfix smtp freezing

Hey all, For the last 8 months I have been running a postfix / mail scanner setup based on Johnny Hughes' excellent tutorial. For the firs 7 months I have had no issues. This past month I have been having instances where the user gets an smtp error while trying to send email. Restarting the postfix service is all it takes to resolve this issue. The problem is that it has begun to occur more and more often. It is now up to once every day. I have found nothing unusual in the mail or messages logs. As I am an ultra newbie I am unsure of the next step to take to resolve this. I have search through the past messages on this list and can find nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Jason Ross

Hi folks, As a breather from the "thread-now-wider-than-my-headers-window-in-thunderbird" conversation re: mixing repos, I have a question regarding a machine I'm about to put online. :) I run a web hosting company and my secondary (primary to the world) DNS box died from a massive rootkit/hack last night. It was running an old Slackware 9.1 installation and I will be completely cleaning those drives sector-by-sector. After which I'll be installing CentOS 5 on that hardware. As it will be a production server and this is my first foray into CentOS/SELinux in a production environment I was hoping to get a recommended list of what to include and, more specifically, what *not* to include from the distro CDs I will be doing a text based install, hoping to avoid the installation of X. Other than BIND and vsftpd, I don't think I need much. This machine will be pulling zone files from my primary web server and storing some archive files and backups for me. I'm dilligently R`ingTFMs, and will continue to.... I'd sure be appreciative of any jumpstart help and/or any pitfalls of which to be cognizant. TIA, ~Ray

limits.conf for file size on vsftpd

I've read conflicting reports on whether this works or not ... I have a chrooted instance of vsftpd (using chroot_local_user=YES), with nopriv_user=vsftpd. I set the following in my limits.conf file: vsftpd hard fsize 50000 Now, I know this works in a shell. However, I want it to work for users uploading files, but they can upload away without issue. Has anyone actually got the limits.conf setting to take effect? I tried adding session required pam_limits.so to pam.d/vsftpd, but that doesn't seem to have any effect either. mysql.users deleting

Hello, Today I was working with MySQL in a test box (CentOS 5.0 x86_64) using phpMyAdmin interface. Accidentaly I've removed user table in mysql database (so, mysql.users)... :S I've two interesting questions: 1) Despite of it, ddbb server seems to work perfectly. I use 3/4 diferent databases with their mysql users... and it works yet! I don't understand, because mysql.users is the reference that MySQL server uses to admin their users and permissions access. ¿?¿?¿?¿?¿ Maybe a kind of memory caché is active... but I think this have not any sense... I've suposed the mysql.user was totally _required_. 2) ¿How I can reisert mysql.user table without reinstall entire package?
