Hello I have downloaded the Centos ISO and installed in on my computer and uname -r shows 2.6.9-55.plus.c4 now I need exact version of source code to compile another application against it, but I can not find the exact source code. where can I find this exact version of source code ? Thanks

booting CentOS in rescrue mode from USB (+over network)

Hello, is there a way to boot CentOS 4.5 from USB flash key in rescue mode ? The prefered solution would be to have booting part of CentOS started by SysLinux and download the content of CD1 from a network server (HTTP), like Anaconda is able to use command "method". Best regards, Martin

So, it *is* something with automount and not a problem in GNOME. I looked at the /etc/sysconfig/autofs in that box and everything is commented out, like on my box. I will be studying the above web page!

I have one other idea: I have only tried this with GNOME. Both boxes also have KDE installed. I want to try it with KDE, to verify that it is an automount problem and *not* a GNOME problem. Lanny

decTOP - Centos install fails but DSL frugal install worked

I got 4 of those decTOPs (http://www.dataevolution.com/dectop%20info%202.htm) and upgraded the memory to 512Mb. I cannot get Centos 5.0 to install. I have the keyboard mouse attached to an ATEN USB-PS/2 adapter (probably should try without this). I have a USB DVD/CDRW drive. The install CD boots just fine. But then the install says, "No CD" and takes me to Askmethods. So I use FTP, as I typically do anyway. They have a generic USB ethernet dongle, but the last device listed on the ethernet devices seems to work just fine. I get all the way through configuring and when it gets to Resolving Dependencies, it crashes. Something about not finding the kernel? And how do I remotely write the debug information? FTP does not seem to be the protocol used. So I partitioned a drive on another system. In partition 4 I copied the 6 ISO CD images. I boot from CD, and then switch to Local Harddrive from /dev/hda4 and /. . Then install follows the same behaviour as the FTP install, so at least I know it is not the USB ethernet. And there is no option to write the dump to /dev/hda4 Openfiler 2.0 hangs at "Resolving Dependenies". Just sits there. Oh, Openfiler 'figured out' to load up a USB driver to get to the CD. I haven't found my FreeNAS CD to see what it does. But the latest D*#nSmallLinux (DSL) had no trouble booting and running of CD. Now I have successfully done the Frugal install to the hard drive and am booted without the CD at all. Now I REALLY want to run Centos on a couple of these units. What should I look for that is causing Centos to fail to instal? How do I capture that debug trace? Since I DO have DSL up and running, if there is some test to perform, let me know. I haved NO experience with DSL or Knoppix. Next is an ASTLinux install on one of the boxes. I really want Trixbox instead.....

NAS -- Centos 5 DIY or Openfiler 2.0

I need to set up a NAS. Got a box with a 200Gb drive ready to go. I have installed Openfiler 2.0 on it but..... I really can't add other services, like FreeRadius (keep the list simple for now). So maybe I should just stay with what I know and use Centos. Other experiences? Are there good DIY NAS instructions for Centos 5?

migrating users from linux to centos

Dear All, I have been running linux 9 server as a dns and mail server and is workin fine.. i want to install CENTOS 5 with all the latest mail server software and bind as well as all the libraries on another machine whic is already done also the data is backed up and will be tranferred. but i would like to know i have about existing 100 mail users how could i tranfer these usernames and passwrd to the new CENtos 5 server .. if i copy the /etc/passwd from my linux server it gonna overite my centos5 /etc/passwd file as there r new users n also new groups create when i installed centos5 n software also i see that the /etc/shadow has only read permisson for root so cant be over written is there a way i cd possiblly have the existing users with thier password on centos5 so i dont have to ask them for their passwords n create all users again appreciat ur help Thanks and regards simon -- Network Administrator
