Modem USB 3G

Hi, I'm trying to install a USB 3G modem, a HUAWEI E220, but when I run # comgt -d /dev/ttyUSB0 I get the error: "[root@deckard files]# comgt -d /dev/ttyUSB0 comgt 19:12:30 -> -- Error Report -- comgt 19:12:30 -> ----> ^ comgt 19:12:30 -> Error @74, line 4, Could not write to COM device. (1)" I've google about it, but find anything useful. Any ideas ? Any help would be appreciated. Warm Regards, Mário Gamito

OT: backing up lvm2 xen disks

Hi all, I need to backup two xen server hosts with several lvm partitions to store xen guests data (all guests are para-virtualized CentOS guests). My intention it is to do a full backup of lvm2 partition where SO resides ( I don't have created lvm2 partitions with snapshot option). Will this procedure works? To backup - dd if=/dev/sysvol/vol01 of=backup.img to restore on another xen host with different name on lvm2 volumes: - dd if=backup.img of=/dev/xenhostvol/xenguestvol01 Mnay thanks. -- CL Martinez carlopmart {at} gmail {d0t} com

No sound after hibernate

Hello, if I hibernate my notebook, suspend to disk in package hibernate-tuxonice-1.97-1cubbi2, with CentOS 5 and Kde 3.5.8 the sound isn't working any more after waking it up. So I try to disable the sound modules in /etc/hibernate/blacklisted-modules, but this failes with a 'Some modules failed to unload' error message. Also 'rmmod MODULNAME' failed with a 'is in use' error message. # hibernate Some modules failed to unload: snd_hda_intel snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_mixer_oss snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd_timer snd_mixer_oss snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd_timer snd snd_mixer_oss snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd_timer snd soundcore snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd_page_alloc What is the recommended procedure to disable sound, unload all the sound modules and reload them after hibernation? what options do I have?

Dear All, If I want make a lan users (with private IP) can access the internet just after passing the verification, what options do I have? What I want is: * If I user want to access the internet * He (must) run the browser * whatever the address he typed on the address bar, he will be brought to the verification location, which will be 'force' him to enter his username and password * if he passed the verification the internet access is available for him, but if not the internet keep unavailable for him. The method will be the for all users, either he use the wire or wireless connection. Will the iptables help me to solve this? How? Thanks in advance for the help - Tanu -

Slightly OT: Creative Zen not showing up when plugged in - what to do

I installed the 0.2.5 version of libmtp, ran the hotplug.sh script (which has a bug in it, but it's only for "old" hotplug support), the player shows up in lsusb, BUT gnomad2 can't seem to find it. What am I missing? Thanks. mhr

WPA question

HI I admit up front that I know just enough about wireless networking to know that I don't know much at all about it. That said, I'm hoping someone can help me learn a little bit... Specifically, could a laptop running Centos 5.1 be expected to (be able to) connect to a wireless access point using WPA2 security settings? I don't know if WPA depends on hardware support, or if it'll work on any ole machine. Nor do I know what is involved in making it happen. Clues would be appreciated. Hi, I wanted to reply messages (e.g. to the cross-build-env in centos-devel) but my replies get posted as a new thread. I'm using Emulution 2.8 and I think Evolution eats the in-reply-to information. Is there anyone who also uses Evolution (especially in conjunction with a Scalix imap server)? So please tell me the right settings to acting not so disturbingly. Thanks. Brian.
