Autofs and mount/umount entries in the nfs server logs

I am using autofs for a number of machines connecting nfs shares. All the mount and unmount log entries on the server are being saved to /var/log/messages currently. This is becoming a bit of a pain because as the number of hosts increase and various monitoring scripts check to be sure that they have access to the nfs shares it is filling up messages on the nfs server. I would like to continue to see these messages but I would like to see them put else where but looking through the documentation for syslog I couldn't find any way to separate just those messages out. I assume(hope) that someone else has run into this problem and found a way around it. My googlefoo has failed me on this one though I might just not be looking for the right thing. Thanks, Rob

Has a wiki entry been created for this yet? A search of wiki.centos.org hasn't come up with anything useful. Logitech cordless desktop ex 90

Anyone using ex 90? I have it running, no problem. Only mouse was little tricky, namely in X. But jut a little change in xorg.conf and everything works fine (CO 5.1 desktop install with vanilla kernel). Now would like to get keyboards extra buttons in use. Question is, anyone configured it allready, or do I have to invent wheel? again :D Jarmo

All, Apologies for cluttering the list, but I just wanted to say hello and prepare all for a barage of silly discussions from a tech-hypochondriac! We have recently purchased two servers running CentOS, and as I'm from more of a Debian based background, it would be good if someone could point out the two or three main differences please? I'm reading up on the package management as I type, but any quick tips and tricks for (web) server admin with CentOS would be magic. Sorry for being cheeky! mdbtools on CentOS

Morning everyone, I was hoping to use mdbtools to extract data from some Access databases overnight. I have yum installed the tools from Dag and also downloaded and (eventually!) compiled the latest release from the mdbtools web site, but I either get 'buffer overflow' errors or no output from most of the tools. I have been trying to cvs checkout the latest development version but sourceforge's cvs login keeps timing out. Is anyone hereabouts using mdbtools successfully, or can anyone suggest any other tools that will dump access databases on a scheduled basis? I have done test migrations using the MySQL gui tools and that works fine, but I don't think the operation can be scripted. On a side note, I also need to do the same for MS-SQL data - does anyone have any favourite tools for automating data extraction? Everything ultimately needs to end up in a MySQL database Any advice appreciated. Thanks Nigel Kendrick

OT: Web page and firefox problem

I have been asked to put a club's membership form on their web, but firefox displays it as scaled to 23% and it prints at that scale. Can anyone tell me why? Thanks Anne

Recent problems printing to HP 7310 port 9100

I have been printing to this printer for years it seems. Recently, printing from Firefox would hang in the print que, but other prints would go behind the hung job. Deleting the hung print job would not seem to change the que until I rebooted. Now I have an OpenOffice job stuck as well. I am using the recommended hpijs device driver. Any ideas what may be wrong here? I am going to have to email this spreadsheet over to my XP system and print from there. How embarrassing.

Command line logging program suggestions?

I am looking for an app that would run from the terminal and would emulate a bash shell (or pass everything to the shell) that would allow me to set a log file and then record all my input and the output to the screen from the commands. As an added bonus if it would allow me to run it from two terminals (or more) on the same machine and log all the input and output to the same file while still displaying it on the screen that would be great. The goal being that when making changes or diagnosing a problem it can sometimes become hard to tell what command came when especially when you have more than one termial session open. While using putty with a really large buffer helps it doesn't deal well with the two terminal issue or disconnected sessions. Anyone know of an app like this or any suggestions that could be added to my bashrc to provide the functionality? Thanks, Rob

need advise on protect base and priorities plugin

Hi, Is it not ok to use both plugins at the same time? I have read from the wiki page of centos that you must use only either protect base or priorities plugin. I have been using the the config file below for months and did not encounter any problems. I used priority=1 and protect=1 on base and updates (addons,extras protect=1 ; set no priorities) for the CentOS-Base repo and on the rpmforge repo I used protect=0 and did not set any priority. Should I enable only one (protect base or priorities) and not both? Thanks.
