Hi, is it safe to install additional modules to pear with "pear install"? I need php-pear-MDB2 which is in CentosPlus but does not contain php-pear-MDB2_Driver_xxx. So I did: yum install php-pear-MDB2 pear upgrade MDB2 pear install MDB2#mysql Thanks, David

I didn't think there was any functional difference between: rpm -e package-name and yum remove package-name Isn't yum just a front-end for the rpm system? -- Bowie

I am always very careful about reviewing the dependency list when using yum for installing or removing packages, but I can see how you might accidentally remove something you didn't intend to. -- Bowie

All packages are currently up2date using yum. I would like to use it for automatic failover of Xen virtualized servers eventually. Right now I am just trying to create a new cluster with 2 Dell PowerEdge 1950 nodes. I have a separate luci server. One of the nodes connects just fine and the other one is hanging. On each node, a clustat displays that both nodes are online. I don't have anything else configured past the "Create a Cluster" page (ie. fencing, services, share resources). On the luci server, I keep getting the following error: "Unable to retrieve batch 640093076 status from hostname:11111: module scheduled for execution" Does anyone know what could be causing this. Port 11111 is open to all tcp on both nodes and I show an established connection with the node using netstat -antulp. For right now, the xend service is turned off on both nodes. Thanks in advance. question regarding mx servers with same priority

Dear ALL I have the following setup running good for quite sometime and i wd really apprecite if someone wd help or give some suggestions centos 5.1 sendmail dns server now recently our mail usage has increased considerably and moreover Mails have become a utmost top priority i have 2 options now 1) have a backup server with lower higher MX i tested this setup n had some queries earlier n thanks to guys like scott for some prfect advise i did manage to check it out n it works beautiful 2) have another server with same value of MX so it cd load balance and also doc says if one server is down or unavaliable the oher server would receive mail now my query is ... if i now configure a second mail server with same MX priority . a) do i have to create all the existing user accounts on my existing email server to this new server cause i already hav about 300+ email users already b) incase my first email server fails are the emails on the first server lost c) alos apprecite if someone can help me with any links or docs for the above setup apprecite and really thnks in advance regards Fabian -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Xorg "intel" driver on 965Q lockup?

Hi Folks, anyone out there successful in using the new xorg "intel" driver module on a 965Q-based motherboard with CentOS 5.2? The old "i810" and "vesa" work fine, I am looking for anyone else with experience with the new "intel" video driver in 5.2. The long of it: I have a customer's Dell Optiplex 745 (Core2 Duo 6300, 965Q chipset with integrated video) connected to a 19" NEC 1760V. Graphical installs of CentOS 5.2 completely locks the system when X starts. Text install succeeds and creates an xorg.conf using the "intel" video driver. Starting X causes complete machine lockup (no network - no ping, SSH dead) requiring a power cycle. This happens 95% of the time. I immediately assumed hardware problems but it passes memtest86 just fine and works with other video drivers. BIOS was 2.3.1 and I upgraded to latest 2.6.1 - no change. Unfortunately, a day of testing did not nail down a commonality of events to explain why the "intel" driver occasionally succeeds. Usually, it's after I've been in the BIOS menu so I suspect it is the video being in just the right state for it to succeed, but again it is not 100% reproducible. When the system locks up, no /var/log/X.0.log has been written or anything in the log files. I would like to build a kernel with sysrq key enabled to break into the kernel debugger on lockup, but I don't have the time as the hardware will be leaving soon. Switching to the "i810" or "vesa" drivers succeed 100% of the time so I have a workaround: a text install and manual edit of /etc/X11/xorg.conf to "i810". My app is old-school 2D so graphical performance is not a concern of mine. I've done searches of upstream Bugzilla, xorg, CentOS bugs, and the 'net in general and, while I find X display lockups with the "intel" driver, I do not find any complete system lockups. I'll file a bug against upstream but I'm trying to get a feel of what the scope of the problem is. I know there are folks using the "intel" driver successfully on other distros, so I'm trying to see if this is a CentOS problem, a RHEL problem, a Dell 745 problem, or just the one box I have (despite tests). Problem with mod_proxy_ajp.so

Hi, After updating httpd package it outputs an error when restarting apache. Problem was "workarounded" commenting out line 2 of /etc/httpd/modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so Starting httpd: httpd: Syntax error on line 210 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Syntax error on line 3 of /etc/httpd/conf.d/proxy_ajp.conf: Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so into server: /etc/httpd/modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so: undefined symbol: proxy_module. When I issue /etc/httpd/conf.d/proxy_ajp.conf, it outputs: httpd-2.2.3-11.el5_1.centos.3 I am using Centos 5 and and httpd-2.2.3-11.el5_1.centos.3 Could you help me to find a better solution? need texlive & lyx-1.55 for Centos 5.2

Today I installed the newest Centos I could find and encountered the old software problem. I couldn't find any third party repositories that have TexLive to replace tetex. Ii tried the Fedora version, but it calls for a different libpoppler. LyX in Centos is aged as well. As far as I can tell, rpmfusion will provide these things, but its confiig page still says 'not ready.' I followed quite a few blind alleys trying to work this one out. Got advice? I'm looking for an RPM based distro that is conservative on the kernel updates, but not so slow on apps. I don't want Fedora b/c the lifespan is too short. PJ ps. already tried EPEL and rpmforge. settings up cheap a NAS / SAN server, is it possible?

Hi all I want to look at setting up a simple / cheap SAN / NAS server using normal PIV motherboard, 2GB (or even more) RAM, Core 2 Duo CPU (probably a Intel 6700 / 6750 / 6800) & some SATA HDD's (4 or 6x 320GB - 750GB). My budget is limited, so I can't afford a pre-built NAS device. Can this be done with CentOS? I've been looking FreeNAS (which is built on FreeBSD), and it look like a great project, but since the hardware support in FreeBSD is limit, I'd rather use Linux for it. Has anyone done this? Help with iptables rule for blocking UDP port 53

I would like to block all DNS queries that come from one particular ip address. I used TCPdump to verify that the queries were in fact, coming from this IP: [scarolan@server:~]$ sudo tcpdump -n udp port 53 and src 10.100.1.1 tcpdump: listening on eth0 11:12:17.162100 10.100.1.1.19233 > 10.100.1.61.domain: 14270+ A? server.domain.com. (32) (DF) Could someone help with the proper syntax for an IPtables rule to block port 53 udp traffic from this IP? I tried this rule but it doesn't work: -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s 10.100.1.1 -m udp -p udp --dport 53 -j REJECT
