Update to Centos 5 anaconda kickstart %post bug?

Is there a process for finding status updates to open bugs within Centos? The particular bug I am talking about is 0002329 http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2329. This was assigned on 01-20-2008 and, as far as I can tell, there's been no action other than it being acknowledged. I've also searched upstream with RHEL and FC and I cannot seem to find a bug report there though complaints of the problem can be found through searching the web. I do see the manual fix for it and will be testing that shortly. I am, however, dealing with a fairly rigid internal legal department that may not welcome a "fix" that's not "official". So I have two questions: 1) Is there an "official" or "accepted" way to inquire about the status of an open bug? 2) With regard to bug 0002329 is this something that has to be fixed upstream so it filters down to centos? system-config-securitylevel-tui keeps adding port 88:tcp

When I run this, I have ssh,http checked and have added Kerberos and squid manually below, but when I save it I still get a port 88:tcp added to the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file? What can I use to track what is forcing it to get added? The box is a current CentOS 5x86 server. I was running apache on it with it set to 88, but it has since been moved back to 80. Thanks! jlc

I believe this could be interesting to a number of people on the list, not just me. Awhile ago I've tried to rebuild fc6 totem-xine in mock but stopped short due to a large number of dependencies as I wasn't sure of the result. Thanks, Sasha

Put your mail/web services on one box and database/LDAP on another. Also, for such a large installation you may even want to look at their commercially supported editions. Last time I checked (admittedly quite a while ago) the pricing wasn't too horrendous and I've heard good things about their support staff. We've always opted to go with the pure open source aka self-supported version but then again we're running installations with fewer than 300 users. Cleaning up an RPM repository.

Hello All, At my $WORK we have lots of in-house applications used to support the services we offer to customers and we deploy these to servers as RPMS. This works well for us except we have thousands of obsolete packages in our Yum repository that need to be cleaned up. What I would like to achieve is to keep the latest version + the last 3 revisions of a package and delete the older revisions. I was attempting to do this based on file timestamps but they are not reliable and in some cases packages were restored from backup in a way that did not preserve timestamps. So I am investigating writing a Perl script to do this but it is far from trivial due to the vast variety of version and release strings used. And there are certain situations in which the version strings are completely ambiguous (even to me) but, even if those have to be handled manually, then great time savings in cleaning up the rest automatically can still be achieved. So, before I start (re)inventing this particular wheel, I thought I would check with the folks on this list since I cannot be the only person with this problem. Are there any ready to use tools available to trim down an overwheight RPM repository by deleting obsolete packages? Many thanks! Fred.

Hierarchial storage management or automated archival to tape

Hi list! While regular backup solutions like amanda or bacula are very good at their job, ie keeping point2point copies of the files currently on disk, I find them less suited for archiving - having unused files move to tape in duplo and stay there until requested. I've even read of multi-tier solutions - move to slower disks after a week and further on to tape after a month. Does anyone have some experience or suggestions for this? The project will deal with ~100 TB of growth per year, most files somewhere between 2 and 50 GB. Yes, it can be done with everything in one filesystem, but I'm concerned about running a full backup every month of 500 TB ;-) Not to mention the time required for recovery in case the filesys crashes....
