I have a system that was originally installed with RHEL 3 x86_64, and I've since 'updated' it to CentOS 3 via installing yum and centos-release, then running a yum update. is there any way I can force -all- installed packages to be replaced with their centos analogs just to be sure its all consistent?

/etc/X11/xorg.conf question

If I use "system-config-display" or "system-config-display --reconfig" although I get a message that I need to log out of GNOME, to have the new file written, for new Display Resolution, logging out or restarting the box does not result in the new settings for the Display taking hold. Sometimes, the number of colors is updated, but *never* the Resolution. Below is my xorg.conf file. What do I need to include in xorg.conf for the resolution to be 1280 x 1024 instead of the current 1600 x 1200? Display is a Dell M991 and the Video Card is shown as Nvidia NV11 (GeForce2 MX/MX400). CentOS 5.2 (32 bit) fully updated. Dear All, I have a Centos 5.2 server used as a squid proxy server for quite sometime and was workin fine after a power failure the system refused to boot i jus see the grub boot load screen n then hangs so using the space bar n with the arrow keys i selected my earlier kernel and it booted fine i think that the latest kernel file i have that isvmlinuz-2.6.18-92.1.17.el5xen is corrupted. how could i restore it back will yum upgrade solve the problem appreciate ur help regards fabian -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Port Forwarding

I'm having trouble getting port forwarding working on my one box. I have 2 incoming internet connections. I have 2 servers on these connections. pubinternet privinternet eth0:x.x.x.x eth0:y.y.y.y eth1:10.10.10.1 eth1:10.10.10.4 I need to be able to port forward traffic from y.y.y.y to the box on 10.10.10.1. I have my firewall configured (I use gshield) but 10.10.10.1 does not seem to answer when I try and test. I use gshield all the time for other servers with only 1 connection, and it works awesome. I can't seem to get it to forward traffic from y.y.y.y to 10.10.10.1. 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.10.4 are connected together with a switch, and I am able to telnet to 10.10.10.1 from 10.10.10.4 on port 25. Is there some step with networking that I am missing in getting this to work? Thanks. -- -=/>Thom

Intel DG33BU motherboard

Hi I've installed CentOS 5.2 (i386) in a computer with a DG33BU motherboard ... When I installed it it crashed because of ACPI issues. Searching Google I found that I need to turn ACPI off in order to successfully install CentOS, which I did. After a while I noticed that because of ACPI is off the Linux kernel finds, initializes and uses only 1 CPU core in the Q6600 quad core CPU that is installed in this computer :-( How can I force it to find, initialize and use all the 4 cores in the computer even if ACPI is off? -- TIA Paolo

squid timeout error

Dear All, i am using squid-2.5STABLE Below error message occurs if the site is accessed through proxy server. same problem occurs for many other sites likes dkc1.digikey.com But the same site opens clearly without any problem if accessed directly. Automounter issue

Anyone seen this before? I have a number of file systems nfs mounted onto clients running various versions of CentOS (and Upstream), although mostly they are v5.x flavors. =20 The server is a Network Appliance filer.
