SELinux - different context on subdirectories

Hi all, I have created a directory /srv with the following SELinux context: system_u:object_r:var_t Now I want to create a subdirectory within /srv which should get a different context. So I tried to set e.g.: semanage fcontext -a -t samba_share_t /srv/samba /sbin/restorecon -v /srv/samba but the context is always reset to: system_u:object_r:var_t What am I missing? 5.3 and ext4

Is 5.3 and ext4 going to be safe? I have seen a couple reports of data loss using ext4? Has this already been fixed? What does the list recommend? ext3/ ext4? Thought maybe today we would start seeing 5.3 showing up... Looking forward to it. Jerry

Directory server import

connecting 2 servers using an FC card via iSCSI

Hi there, I have one server acting as a iscsi target running windows storage server r2 sp2 and the other server is running centos as an initiator. They are connected to a switch over a 1Gbit ethernet connection. the target is a Dell NF600 and the server running centos is a Poweredge R900. We want to move this configuration to a FC based installation using a Dell QLE2462 HBA (this is the hba we can get here). So, i would like to ask before i make a mistake..... :) If I purchase an ethernet fiber switch and add a Dell QLE2462 HBA to both servers and connect the servers to this ethernet switch, will I be able to use this configuration as iscsi target/initiator? will i be able to add a new server (initiator) to this configuration? or the whole thing is totally impossible? -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Erick Perez Cel +(507) 6675-5083 ------------------------------------------------------------

wifi and the default keyring

Hello. I'm using my laptop (an Acer Aspire 3680, with built-in Atheros wifi). I installed 5.2 on it, and it's working nicely. But, I have an issue with the keyring. I should mention that this is my *first* experience with keyrings. When I set up the wifi, it stated basically that "nm-applet wants to access the default keyring, but it's locked. Enter password." So I did. (I made one up.) So, every time I boot, it asks for the password. Then, I found out about the trick of making it the same as the user's login password. Yes, that works, _but only if 'auto-login' is disabled_. It amounts to having to enter the login pw on every boot, or the default keyring pw. So, my question: * Can I totally disable (remove?) the keyring stuff, and set up nm-applet another way to get the wifi passphrase? - or - * Can I _permanently_ unlock the default keyring? - or - * Another trick? Whatever circumvents having to enter the keyring password with 'auto-login' enabled.

syslog: CPU stuck for 10s!

Hi All, I have a Centos 5 box serving NFS3 shares from an LSI megaraid card. The box has been up and down for about a week and trying to figure out what's up. Found a syslog message today about "APIC error on CPU" and after rebooting with NOAPIC, I now get this: # cat /var/log/kernel | grep BUG Mar 17 09:51:05 ofdmz kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 10s! [migration/0:2] Mar 17 09:52:21 ofdmz kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 10s! [ssh:3491] Anyone know what this means? I found a thread* from 2006 on this list that mentions updating the bios, but thought I would get a message out early in case this doesn't fix it. Changing Color Mappings

I have been tasked with finding a way to change the color mappings on a CentOS 5.2 system. Basically I want to make an image that is black and white appear in different shades of gray by adjusting the color mappings. I need to know the starting point for the color maps however so I can make the appropriate adjustments. I have been told this should be some kind of look up table array of 256x3 elements. I have searched through the frame buffer in the kernel and the driver area for the intel frame buffer but haven't found anything that looks appropriate. Does this table exist or is the problem being tackled completely wrong. Any help, ideas, or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Brian

How to get usb storage under /media in runlevel 3?

Hello I have previously used Centos 4.x in runlevel 3, when I plug in my usb storage device/cd in cd-rom, it is shown under /media, for example /media/MyUsbStick. Now in Centos 5.2, when I insert usb storage device, nothing is shown under /media (runlevel 3). When I have runlevel 5 and X running, usb stick / cdrom is automounted fine. I can mount the stick using /dev/xxx device, but would prefer if: a) cdrom and usb-stick would appear under /media automatically and I could manually mount it b) cdrom and usb-stick would be automounted when inserted (like in runlevel 5). Any ideas, how to accomplish (a) or (b)? Regards, Kimmo Koivisto
