Off-topic: strange problem with file size

Hi I'm having a curious problem with some files. The account has 77GB of data[1], but there some files with more than 100GB[2], in fact, two of then have more than 200GB[3]. The OS is Opensuse 10.2 x86_64. Has anyone seem something like this? How can I inspect more closely what is going on? DRBD on a xen host: crash on high I/O

Hello, I have a couple of Dell 2950 III, both of them with CentOS 5.3, Xen, drbd 8.2 and cluster suite. Hardware: 32DB RAM, RAID 5 with 6 SAS disks (one hot spare) on a PERC/6 controller. I configured DRBD to use the main network interfaces (bnx2 driver), with bonding and crossover cables to have a direct link. The normal network traffic uses two different network cards. There are two DRBD resources for a total of a little less than 1TB. When the two hosts are in sync, if I activate more than a few (six or seven) xen guests, the master server crashes spectacularly and reboots. I've seen a kernel dump over the serial console, but the machine restarts immediately so I didn't write it down. Unfortunately I cannot experiment because I have production services on those machines (and they are working fine until I start drbd on the slave). drbd configuration is attached. Anybody has an idea of the problem? The crash is perfectly reproducible, and drbd seems to be the problem (maybe the Xen kernel helps?). I've tested the driver today (by connecting to the available access point) briefly and it didn't display any problems in functioning. Now, according to the news clipping from computerworld.com, by installing this, one would still use the proprietary Broadcom firmware, which, I suppose, comes along with the driver released by Broadcom at: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php Also, according to the Broadcom's README, all other "firmware kernel modules" have to be removed (or blacklisted) from kernel before installing this. I'm also willing of doing this, though, I am going to need some guidance in order for this not to take too long, since I've never done driver packaging before. A few questions for start: Ok, to build an rpm I need a spec file - this comes as a condition for packaging anything as RPM, right? Now, the only way to do everything else (i.e. blacklisting unwanted firmware files, importing kernel module, assigning modules to the devices ...) that I can think of, is via Bash script, or not?

Cleaning up some problems

Over the past year or so, I've collected several errors that some I have found the solution for, others, like the one below are quite befuddling. I get this one every week when /etc/cron.weekly runs. What the heck is the "S" or what it is looking for? Also, I've checked with cpan, and according to cpan, it says it doesn't know what NET::DNS is, yet if I do an i NET::DNS, it returns 150-some odd net::dns entries. I'm not totally familiar with cpan, and just started using it a short time ago. Still the man3/s is really screwey for some reason. There's not a package called "s" n the repositories is there? This is an x86_64 box updated as of yesterday after removing the httpd.1 stuff someone told me was the fix. Thanks again all.. Sam

install cups-devel error on CENTOS 5.3

I have CENTOS 5.2 on DELL server. I tried to install new HP3530fs MFP driver which I download from HP. It ask me install two dependency "cup-devel". while I try to install "cups-devel" from DVD and got error: # rpm -ivh cups-devel-1.3.7-8.el5.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: cups-libs = 1:1.3.7-8.el5 is needed by cups-devel-1.3.7-8.el5.i386 [root@MCG-ORA11 tmp]# rpm -qa|grep cups-lib cups-libs-1.3.7-8.el5_3.4 cups-libs-1.3.7-8.el5_3.4 the reason may come from "cups-libs" newer than "cups-devel". Anywhere I can download new version of "cups-devel"? Need help on start samba

Installing matlab on Centos5. command I typed: /media/MATHWORKS_R2009A/install & Error message I received: [1] 10759 [root@taro matlab]# bash: /media/MATHWORKS_R2009A/install: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied Google found no hits with this precise error message, but several similar hits when I leave out the matlab path. Solution: mount -o remount -o exec /dev/scd0 (scd0 is the drive where the DVD is inserted.) Hope this helps someone with the same problem. perl woes - perl-file-Temp conflict

Hi all, everytime I play with perl I end up falling on my face. Yesterday, some new perl modules available from rf (my chosen repo for perl, perl is excluded from my CentOS-Base), however it did not like an already installed perl-File-Temp, so not recalling it was necessary for my mail system I removed it and allowed the updates. Then when I discovered my mail system no longer working (amavisd installed as per centos wiki) I tried to re-install - finally using --force - but now I have two Temp.pm files and the one I need is not found. Why is it that perl has this really messy structure and allows multiple files / methods of the same name, and thus tripping up the unsuspecting. Tracking specific fixes into backports

I apologize if this is a simple noob question - I looked around and couldn't find an easy answer. My auditor presenting me with some findings re: httpd (apache) and said I have to upgrade to the newest version. They are basing their findings on the "version" of Apache installed - but are unaware of the fixlevel. Is there an easy way that I can take a specific Mitre or Securityfocus issue and see if the fix has been backported into the most up to date version of a Centos RPM. While this particular instance is in regards to Apache, I suspect I'll have to do this some more in the future with other RPMs as well.
