domU: no audio device

i created a centos 5.3 hvm domU. i have tried any one of the following in the xen config without luck soundhw = "all" or "sb16" or "es1370" dom0: #virsh version Compiled against library: libvir 0.7.0 Using library: libvir 0.7.0 Using API: Xen 3.0.1 Running hypervisor: Xen 3.1.0 # uname -a Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen # /usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm -soundhw ? Xen Kernel 2.6.18-164 and Hypervisor 3.3.1 problem.

Hi, I just upgraded the my Dom0 kernel on my Xen machine and it failed to boot. The hypervisor itself comes from the Gitco repository. I couldn't catch the exact reason, other than it said something about no proper root and failing to synch. It rebooted a second or so later and I can't seem to find the relevant log. As I learned from the other thread this is an early release of the kernel. Should I wait until the rest of the release catches up before trying to resolve this, or should I try now? Should I treat it as a Xen issue or a CentOS issue. The system boots fine on the non-Xen variant of the kernel and fin in the previous kernel Thanks in advance, Ian.

Confusion about 32 vs 64 bit jre

I ran a yum update yesterday and got the new kernel and other goodies, and I've rebooted and all seems to be well. Except, I just tried to run Firefox for the first time, and it wants a new jre (6.16). Now that's fine, except that I have a recollection of needing the 32-bit jre the last time I did this, but that's not working. I'm pulling down the 64-bit version, but I'm wondering if I need both, which, IIRC, does not work, or which one of the two? (I _am_ running the x86_64 OS and most apps.) What bothers me is that I've tried both, and apparently neither one works (!!!!). I installed by downloading the bin file (self-extracting rpm), and then running the bin with sudo. Where did I go wrong? mhr

No login with kernel 2.6.18-164.el5

Hello, since kernel 2.6.18-164.el5 no user could login any more from nfs client into his home directory on nfs server. The kde error message is: "The following installation problem was detected while trying to start KDE: Writing to $HOME directory (/home/<USER>) failed with the error 'Permission denied' KDE is unable to start." /home is exported with nfs4 (gss/krb5), the password is delivered by nis. Everything works fine if I reboot the nfs server into the previous kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5. Then it is completely irrelevant which kernel version the client has. So /home export by nfs4 works for client with kernel versions 2.6.18-164.el5 and 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5. Is sendpage or some other alphanumeric paging program available from one of the repos for CentOS 5? I've checked rpmforge and epel. I just wanted to check to see if it might be available somewhere else before I resort to building from source. -- Bowie

The sound is bad, / Lance vanished from the project some time in 2008. Everybody needs time off from projects from time to time, so there was no real need to worry about that. What there was to worry about is the following: Lance is the only one, who can make active changes to the centos.org domain, as he “owns it”. Nobody else in the team is able to add nameservers, for instance. New sshd_config - what has changed?

I see that there is a new sshd_config in the latest updates. Since I have altered the original file, this one got installed as .rpmnew It has two changes: > #AddressFamily any So does this make it default to IPv4 only? > #ChrootDirectory none Chroot is now an option for SSH?

sadc output to a circular file of given size?

Hey folks, We have Munin set up for longer term performance monitoring stuff, and it has been extremely useful to us for what it does. However, it is hard coded to poll systems at 5 minute intervals, which of course proves not to be so useful when you have to dig down into more detail on something. What we typically do for load tests where we need more detail, is run this command : /usr/lib64/sa/sadc -d -I -F 2 /var/log/foo/bar Which of course logs data every 2 seconds. We now have a problem with our PostgreSQL server and want to set something up to record sadc data more frequently than the 1 minute limitation of cron. Though 2 seconds is probably a bit much, we are thinking more like 5 or 10 seconds. So the above command would be ideal. Except ... what if it fills up the disk? I looked at the man page and do not see any obvious way to get it to write out to a file of given size, and just keep overwriting the oldest data in that file. That way would could pre-allocate a big file of a given size, and be able to store the last X minutes of sadc data. So when the PG system crashes again (sigh), we can review the data for the last X minutes before the crash. One solution I could think of is if there is some kind of filesystem to implement this sort of circular file. Any ideas? Any other obvious solution I am missing?
