how to change fsize to unlimited..

Dear centos experts, I am wondering is there a way for me to change ulimit fsize parameter? I am trying to change it to unlimited, so I added the following line to /etc/security/limits.conf - - fsize -1 but it does not work, and a reboot will reset the content of limits.conf. thanks, yan

iPod Touch/iPhone VPNs with CentOS.

I am looking at options for VPN connections from iPhones and iPod Touches to CentOS systems. We use OpenVPN for connections with Windows, Mac OS X, and other Linux systems, but there don't appear to be any OpenVPN clients for iPhones (presumably because there are no tun/tap interfaces available yet). My experiences getting IPsec running on CentOS systems with OpenVPN have not been pretty. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. streamripper & CentOS?

I am trying to build streamripper from source, I don't see rpms available for it. I have all the parts of yum groupinstall 'Development Tools' in place. rpm shows that a 2.5.* is in use # rpm -q glibc glibc-2.5-42.el5_4.3 Any attempt do get past the ./configure for streamripper fails checking for GLIB - version >= 2.16.0... no *** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB is incorrectly installed. configure: error: Glib 2.16 or greater required After a lot of googling, I see some people on Ubuntu seem to have been missing a glibc-dev: http://sourceforge.net/projects/streamripper/forums/forum/19083/topic/34574… but I don't see that available for me to pull from yum, and trying variants via: [root@localhost streamripper-1.64.6]# yum provides */libglib* does not pull up what I seem to need here either. I feel I must be missing some path, but I cannot find it. I built this fine on my BSD machines, and this app is part of the available install base for e.g. Ununtu and FreeBSD etc-- it is not as if this is esoteric. Does this not build under CentOS? or am I missing something really straightforward. I searched the forums via google and find really no one talking about this, so either I'm missing some path or something obvious, despite looking, or it's just kown/assumed to not work. I am running : Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan 20 07:32:21 EST 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux freshly installed and updated 5.x. Thanks for thoughts- Brian

Gmail problem

Hi,all : There is gmail drive for windows platform<http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/#>where the person can access his gmail storage space as a drive. Do we have something similar on Linux? Means is there any software that will allow the person to 'mount' the gmail storage and say 'copy/paste' from his system to the gmail account? Thanks ~

totem: something wrong with gstreamer-plugins-ugly

When running totem to play a move (e.g. mpeg-1 file), it fails with the message: "A MPEG-1 System Stream demuxer plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed." After reading docs and trying various things I've reduced the source of the problem to the package gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm # rpm --rebuilddb # rpm -q libdvdread libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5 # rpm -i gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386 And, after erasing libdvdread and trying to install both packages in one command, I get pretty much the same contradictory error message: # rpm -iv libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5.i386.rpm gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386 There's no problem installing libdvdread by itself: # rpm -iv libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5.i386.rpm Preparing packages for installation... libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5 # rpm -q libdvdread libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5 So how are people getting totem to play movies? tia. -- Without music, life would be a mistake. --Friedrich Nietzsche

Centos 5.2 mysql build

Greetings, I wanted to enable blackhole and CSV engine in the mysql server so downloaded the SRPM from Centos Site, setup the rpmbuild envronment with mighty help from the our own Russ's Owlriver website and tried building it. I have a 5.2 centos box on which I need to enable this so took the 5.2 SRPM (mysql-5.0.45-7.el5.src.rpm) from vault.centos.org.(mysql The Build did not complete throwing errors during testing about unable to connect using ssl or something. I tried from 5.4 SRPM at least the build went thru. Was 5.0.45 srpm broken? or did I get it horribly wrong somewhere as it is my first attempt to build from srpm. Now I have a situation wherein the PHDs refuse to work with the Mysql 5.0.77 (y'know those typical silly scared rabbits who will never move from status quo no matter what) I fished around and found that there was a BIG thread on this issue. I understand it is a upstream issue. But in the EOD, I need a tested stuff not homegrown one (according to the PHDs and I am new in this job, never mind I will be completing 26 years in IT field on 3rd Feb...). Has anybody come across this error? if so how it was mitigated? The issue here is we need to show it working on centos and then when going live the production will be switched over to RHEL (Sorry Centos guys... That's the way this Indian (1/6th) part of the world goes about: kinda "successful POC first and then I give hard cash"). Thanks and Regards, Rajagopal

32 bit Full Virtualized DomU on 64 Dom0

Just installed DomU won't boot

Hi, I am using Centos 5.4 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5xen. There is two disadwantages with it: first, it's quite untrivial task to get it working under Centos, and second, it doesn't work anymore :) >From official fuse-gmailfs site (richard.jones.name): Gmail Filesystem no longer works with the latest Gmail interface, and will not be maintained in the future. BTW, according to google EULA, it's illegal to use gmail it that way. Gmail team could even disable you account. I would suggest you to take a look at dropbox, which provides 2-5Gb online storage with full desktop integration on lin/win/mac. At the moment it's quite tricky to install in under CentOS, because it uses python 2.5 (CentOS has python 2.4), but it's achievable: http://wiki.dropbox.com/TipsAndTricks/CnetOS-KDE-Install . Fancy GUI isn't working at the moment. I'm currently backporting it to CentOS, and I would like to include it in rpmforge (it's distributable). I estimate it in about one week.
