FIlename makes it appear that you need the 2.6.18-8.1.8 kernel from CentOS Extras: kvm-kmod-36-1.2.6.18_8.1.8.el5.src.rpm If I try to rebuild that with: rpmbuild --rebuild --target=x86_64 kvm-kmod-36-1.2.6.18_8.1.8.el5.src.rpm I get error that I need the 2.6.18-8 kernel-devel package, if I install that it will build but it results in a kernel module built for the 2.6.18-8 series but I need for my 2.6.18-194 series. So on your advice I jumped into my SPECS dir and tried: rpmbuild -bs --target=x86_64 kvm-kmod.spec and it gave me: Wrote: ~/kend/rpmbuild/SRPMS/kvm-kmod-36-1.2.6.18_194.11.4.el5.1.x64.src.rpm I guess it all comes down to experience. I did have some trouble with kABI at first and disabling it solved the issue, not sure if it's still disabled, but I will check. Thanks for the info! I wont call this thread solved until I get the chance to try these two options out and see where I get. Sounds like sticking with using kABI is my best bet either way if case I run into this again in the future with other things. Getting into the visualization world for the first time so I have a learning curve to clime here. One server not showing SSH port, the other is.

I have two CentOS servers running SSH on two different non-standard ports. So far as I can tell, they have identical /etc/ssh/sshd_config files with the exception of the different port (both are 22xx). However, when running nmap on them, one betrays the port that SSH is running on, and the other does not. I have shut down iptables on both machines and the behaviour remains this way. What could be the cause? Specifically, how can I hide the port that SSH is running on? I'm sorry that I cannot provide the IP addresses, the owner of the servers doesn't want that! mtrr error

I need your help and DEL's tech support doesn't provide any help on this one. We have a lot of different type of DELL desktops from old-type hyper-thread cpu, to dual-core and quad-core cpus (most are Xeons). We run all versions of CentOS, but most are latest 5.5 (also up-to-date) and are very happy about that. The primary software on those Linux systems is IDL, which uses OpenGL libraries usually comes with video drivers. Now we are having problem with DELL T3500 with six-core cpu (6 GB memory). This is the only T3500 and six-core cpu we have right now. Here is the fact: 1. on T3500 with six-core, CentOS5.5, video card ATI Profire 2260, IDL 7.1. Using dmesg, it report mtrr: type mismatch for e0000000,10000000 old: uncachable new: >>>>>>>>>> write-combining >>>>>>>>>> mtrr: type mismatch for e0000000,10000000 old: uncachable new: >>>>>>>>>> write-combining when run IDL with simple draw function, got segmentation fault /proc/mtrr: reg00: base=0xdff00000 (3583MB), size= 1MB: uncachable, count=1 reg01: base=0xe0000000 (3584MB), size= 512MB: uncachable, count=1 Then I switched another ATI RV370, the mtrr error is gone, but still got segmentation fault But 2. on T3400 with dual-core, CentOS5.5, same ATI RV370 video card and IDL 7.1, everything works just fine. By the way, we have never had any such problem with all our DELL boxes using CentOS and IDL on T3400, the /proc/mtrr: reg00: base=0x00000000 ( 0MB), size=65536MB: write-back, count=1 reg01: base=0x3ff00000 (1023MB), size= 1MB: uncachable, count=1 reg02: base=0x40000000 (1024MB), size=1024MB: uncachable, count=1 reg03: base=0x80000000 (2048MB), size=2048MB: uncachable, count=1 When googling, someone out there suggest manually configure the MTRR, can somebody help us how to configure this six-core's MTRR? I am guessing this must be MTRR related. Is it possible the current Linux kernel doesn't understand six-core very well? SquashFS: how good is it?

using Linux as a front-end controller for a SAN?

Hi all, I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. Has anyone tried, or have experience with, setting up a Linux server to manage a few NAS devices and thus make them all visible to the clients as one large SAN? Basically, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to combine the current NAS's we have into one large system (typically a SAN?) and then let the clients all connect to one server (for authentication, LUN control, etc), but then when they need to access their drives / devices / LUN's, they get redirected to the specific server directly. I'm also thinking it could be a good way to say some IP addresses, i.e. instead of giving each NAS a public IP, they could all have private IP's and then everyone just connects to the public IP if needed. The servers which will access the NAS's will be on the same physical LAN and will also be on the same private IP subnet to make it easier. Does anyone know where I can get an RPM of pyDB2?

Sorry to be a pain but I'd really like PyDB2 (DB2 client for python). IBM only seem to offer the source which won't compile without a copy of DB2. I only need it to extract some info from a customer site so I don't really want to have to get DB2. any ideas? thanks

Samba issue accessing shares by IP address

We have a strange issue with Samba shares on our CentOS 5.5 systems in that we can access the shares by name, but not by IP address. First a little background. Recently, our domain controllers were upgraded and I had to tweak the smb.conf file by changing security from DOMAIN to ADS and adding a setting for realm. My smb.conf file looks like this (names and IP addresses have been changed): [global] workgroup = OUR_DOMAIN printing = cups printcap name = cups printcap cache time = 750 cups options = raw map to guest = Bad User include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile logon drive = P: usershare allow guests = Yes add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -c Machine -d /var/lib/nobody -s /bin/false %m$ domain logons = No domain master = No security = ADS encrypt passwords = Yes password server = server1 server2 username map = /etc/samba/smbusers usershare max shares = 100 passdb backend = smbpasswd wins support = No wins server = 1.2.3.4 name resolve order = lmhosts host wins log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m realm = COMPANY.COM [scratch] comment = Scratch area for builds inherit acls = Yes path = /scratch read only = No I also had to rejoin the CentOS systems to the domain by running "net ads join -U xxxxx" on each system. I can access the scratch share from any Windows PC in our domain without having to authenticate as long as I use the name of the CentOS system. But if I try to use the IP address of a CentOS system I get the "The network path was not found" error message. We have some systems in a lab from which we need to access the share by IP address. This worked before the recent changes, and I can't figure out which of these changes may have caused this. Any ideas? TIA for any help, Alfred
