I just wanted to say Congratulations and thank you to the Centos Team for all of the work on Centos 6 - I know the last few months have not been easy - but the real benefit will be that Centos 6 will be as good and as stable as Centos 5 has been for me and everyone who has been using it for the past 4 years. hi guys, I appreciate that the visibility of centos-6 content is highly tempting and many people are going to be jumping in to get on there asap - however, I just want to point out that till its released, its liable to change. And I can *confirm* that content presently visible is going to change. So hang in there, give it another day or so - dont do the installs till the mirror system is online, till the sha sum's for content is published, till the torrents are available. - KB

More on CentOS autotools bug

Below is a repost of the message I sent about the strange error message I was getting when trying to build my project on CentOS. I am a software developer and don't have time to compare distros. I am also not an autotools expert. The autotools files in my project were lmade by others. It builds on everything except CentOS. I also don't have the time to build a simple test case. That would probably be time-consuming. The only thing I can do is explain how to reproduce the error. However, this would be time-consuming for anyone trying to do so. Sorry, I think I will just have to move to another distro, even Cygwin, for C development. That is a shame, because Centos is great in other respects. ----- Forwarded message from "John J. Translate Centos Release Notes into your own non-English Language

Centos 6.0 Release Notes are here http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS6.0 Volunteers whose native (or first language) is not English are invited to translate the Release Notes into their own language. There are probably other useful translation tasks to make Centos understandable to people all around the world. Should the Centos Mailing List diversify into non-English language versions ? For example, Chinese (which version?) , Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian etc. etc. ? For example: chinese(a)centos.org -- With best regards, Paul. England, EU.

Hi all! My thanks to the Centos team for continuing to slave away on C6 even with all the distractions!!! Just did a test install on my eeepc 901 (on an external drive, til I'm comfortable with it) and find that it doesn't seem to know how to talk to the ralink 2860 wireless chipset. A few months back I did a test install of Scientific Linux 6 and as I recall it (I may be mis-remembering) it "just worked". So I enabled EPEL and RPMFUSION but they don't seem to have the driver either. Clues appreciated. Upgrade from CentOS 5.x to 6.0

Great news about CentOS 6.0 being available, and I figured I'd ask the most obvious question, what can I expect when upgrading from CentOS 5.6 to 6.0? I have not had to go from one major version of CentOS to another so this is new territory for me. Is the processes just like an install except there's an "Upgrade" option? Does an upgrade do a "yum update" of everything installed? Most of my systems use EPEL and some the IUS repos...is there a way during the upgrade to just upgrade system components and leave things like PHP, httpd and MySQL alone for now? Any suggestions on monitoring the upgrade progress via syslog or some other method so I can see exactly what is being done during the upgrade? Thanks - Trey
