gnome-panel on centos 6

How do you disable gnome-panel on centos 6? Before I could at least kill gnome-panel on centos 5, however on centos 6 even kill -9 gnome-panel restarts it again. Anyone know how? jerry

Adding the [SOLVED] Tag to break threads

hi guys, Just a quick note about adding [SOLVED] tags to the Subject lines on email lists : Dont do it, it does not help and makes no difference to the content - yet, it breaks threading of responses. Unline web forums, email clients will try and thread using the Subject and in-reply-to headers to retain thread sanity. So dont please dont break that, its quite a key part of the whole mailing lists experience for everyone. I understand that some people seem to think that adding that makes it easier to later search on google. And if thats the case, adding the SOLVED word in your actual email body would do just as well, Add it high up the body content for even better effect. - KB

Subnet expansion

Hi all, Can pls share your experience on this? Currently I have this network: 10.1.16.0/22. 10.1.16.0-10.16.17.254 are DHCP managed 10.1.18.0-10.1.19.254 are statically assigned If I need to expand it to: 10.1.16.0/20 1. What is the best way to do it with minimal network disruption? 2. If I keep some machine with 22 subnet mask, will it still be able to talk to the other machines in it's range? Thank you. Fajar.

Looking for ntop alternative

Hi, Can anyone please recomment an ntop alternative for me, which is more stable as well? I need to monitor all connections to and from a CentOS 5 server and ntop does it fairly well, but seems to crash at random times, and thus looses all the date prior to the crash. Well, my new workstation has an internal speaker, as well as the jacks for external. I want beeps, if necessary, but I can't figure out how to tell it *not* to route streaming audio to the jacks, and *not* through the PC speaker. Any ideas, folks? mark

centos 6 gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor

Hi all, I am looking at processes in centos 6. How do I stop gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor from starting. I tried searching in gconf-edit for it but did not find anything. I have ran these commands and rebooted. (I verified they are unchecked now also) gconftool-2 -t bool --list-type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount false gconftool-2 -t bool --list-type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount_open false but gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor is still running. CentOS 6 Webmail

I see that SquirrelMail is gone from 6. Is there a package in here somewhere that is a webmail system? Otherwise, I suppose it lives in one of the repos like sourceforge. I just wanted to check if something new existed before doing that. John
