Apache, IPv4, IPv6, virtual hosts

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have a CentOS 6 box with a single IPv6 and a /64 IPv6 I would like to have on the same box a name-based virtual host of Apache with IPv4 and an IP-based virtual host with IPv6. The only solution I have found so far is to run two instances of Apache, one on IPv4 and the other on IPv6. In your opinion, are there other solutions to this problem? Thanks. yum update error

Hi folks bit of an odd one over the last few days i have been getting [Errno 14] HTTP Error 500: Internal Server error Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=5&arch=i386&repo=updates error was [Errno 14] HTTP Error 500: Internal Server Error (though not just with updates but any mirrorlist from CentOS-Base and also fasttrack) this happens when trying to do a yum update when i try browsing to the mirrorlist address manually i get Sorry, the requested URL 'http://backend/?ra=xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx&&release=5&arch=…' caused an error: the x'd portion represents the boxes network address from my "provider independent" ipv6 space which i recently moved to I am dual-stacked everything else is working and cached mirrors appear to work ok using the baseurl instead also works but isn't something i want to do for long any ideas? mike

In this case, the security exposures are purely if you allow untrusted users logins on this particular CMS. I limit authenticated user access strictly to a few trusted users (web editors), there are no exposures. from the perspective of an anonymous user, this particular website is purely static. as the server hasn't been hacked or defaced in 5 years, it appears my assumptions here are valid. -- john r pierce N 37, W 122 santa cruz ca mid-left coast

CentOS 6 - Does EFI have an impact beyond the boot sequence?

Hello, I am using an up to date CentOS 6 x86_64 laptop (Thinkpad X220t) and after struggling a bit I could install it a few months ago with a pure EFI boot. However, I am not really satisfied with such things as stability, power consumption, etc. and now that I have a little more time I want to investigate these issues thoroughly. So, my questions are: - Does EFI impacts other things than the boot sequence? (a friend of mine told me that this is a complete replacement of BIOS, and thus impacts "everything") - Could it change (improve?) stability, power consumption, etc. if I would reinstall CentOS 6 using the traditional boot? (or is it just a legacy wrapper around an EFI "BIOS"?) Thanks in advance for your advice or for providing more details about what you know about EFI pro and cons! Cheers, Mathieu

CentOS 6.2 on partitionable mdadm RAID1 (md_d0) - kernel panic with either disk not present

Environment: CentOS 6.2 amd64 (min. server install) 2 virtual hard disks of 10GB each Linux KVM Following the instructions on CentOS Wiki <http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Install_On_Partitionable_RAID1> I installed a min. server in Linux KVM setup (script shown below) <script> #!/bin/bash nic_mac_addr0=00:07:43:53:2b:bb kvm \ -vga std \ -m 1024 \ -cpu core2duo \ -smp 2,cores=2 \ -drive file=/home/arunk/KVM/vdisks/centos62.raid1.disk1.img \ -drive file=/home/arunk/KVM/vdisks/centos62.raid1.disk2.img \ -net nic,vlan=1,model=e1000,macaddr=${nic_mac_addr0} \ -net tap,vlan=1,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no \ </script> The system boots fine when both disks are available. When I remove either of the disks (delete the -drive file= line), the system boots to a point wherein the GRUB menu is displayed and the progress bar displays for a while till the white bar reaches about halfway point and then it: Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! The purpose of the above exercise was to test if the system will work in spite of losing one of the disks which is what RAID1 is supposed to do (I am emulating by removing the disk image line from the definition of the system). Has anyone tested CentOS 6.2 on partitionable mdadm RAID1 setup in bare metal hardware? Any suggestions/ideas as to what I may doing incorrectly?
