anyone else having flash trouble?

On my centos 5.7 system, using Firefox 10.1, suddenly flash videos have stopped working, like, today. they worked yesterday. Now all I get is an error message that the flash plugin has crashed, reload page and try again. strangely, my centos-6 machine using the same firefox and the same flash plugin works fine. LDAP encryption, not sure.

Hi all, I'm setting up a local LDAP server with a pass-through authentication to another LDAP. I'm not clear about the encryption. Say the case is like this. CompB is set to have LDAP authentication. A ---> SSH ---> CompB ---> Local LDAP:389 ---> SASLAUTHD --> Global LDAP: 636 1. Password on the SSH session would be encrypted, isn't it? 2. How about when it goes to the local LDAP:389, would it be encrypted? Thank you. Fajar.

question on unused directories in /usr/lib and /usr/lib64

I was working on archiving an old virtual server today and was reminded of how much space is wasted by some of the default installations on CentOS. I think this was a 5.x box. Anyway, in /usr/lib/64 (and probably /usr/lib on non-64 systems), there were a lot of directories which have no bearing on a basic server. Centos 5.7--desktop icons are now a blank sheet of paper with the .desktop filename and they don't work

Just rebooted my box (switched keyboards, and since it's a PS/2 keyboard, it needs to be done at poweroff) and when it came back up, (almost) all the desktop icons I've created (as distinct from the ones that came with the system) now don't display correctly. Instead of the graphic assigned to each, it's just a picture of a blank sheet of paper with the corner folded over, and the icon text is the name of the .desktop file that defines the particular item. worse, when I click one, they don't … [View More]work... I get a popup window containing this text (when attempting to fire up a local rebuild of Audacity, or the appropriate name when attempting to use one of the other ones): The filename "Audacity (local build).desktop" indicates that this file is of type "desktop document". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "desktop configuration file". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "desktop configuration file", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. corrupted /etc/mtab

bug in repo affecting perl

I seem to running into the following bug when attempting to perform a yum update: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5322 I have been skipping perl to move on. However, I am unable to update perl to the latest i386 release due to what appears to be a mistake in the centOS repo.
