PXE won't boot a local kernel

Hi I have a computer node I have configured with pxe to boot diskless, so far it works flawlessly . In the Hard Disk of this Node I have installed, using systemimager , a image of the same configuration I used for the diskless, kernel and image are pretty the same. I log in into the node using diskless and mounted all required files and directories /proc /sys /dev. I also chroot to the new root dir (the root directory in the HD). Grub-install gives me no errors and grub.conf/menu list seems to be ok . Finally I tell PXE to boot the node, but using the local disk, but it won't boot. I have no errors or something than helps me to see what is wrong. The output of ipmi-console is: !PXE entry point found (we hope) at 95FA:00D6 via plan A UNDI code segment at 95FA len 4964 UNDI data segment at 95FA len 4964 UNDI data segment at 902A len 5D00 Getting cached packet 01 02 03 My IP address seems to be 0A650209 10.101.2.9 ip*10.101.2.9:10.101.2.250:10.101.2.250:255.255.0.0 TFTP prefix: Booting from local disk... and then start all over again : "Triying to load: pxelinux.cfg/e3777423*214f*3d36*93bc*440706a2fc6d ...." My pxelinux.conf looks like: DEFAULT localhost LABEL diskless KERNEL ..... LABEL localhost LOCALBOOT 0 How can I debug or to get more information about what could be wrong . THXS Orlando

Virtualization in CentOS 6

I might be needing to utilize one of the provided virtualization packages either in a headless console only setup of CentOS or on my desktop. I havent used anything but ESXi in ages except virtualbox which I did not like at all. Most of the guests which I will need to run will be wnidows based and last I looked at this a few years ago, windows guests ran pathetic. What are some more current opinions on how windows guests run on the available packages compared to ESXi? The version numbers between the rhel virtio-win drivers and the publicly available ones are significantly different, and it looks like you need a rhel sub for theirs. Anyone know the state of the ones on the fedora repo? Has kvm made snapshots (without lvm) as slick as vmware yet? Thanks for the suggestions, jlc

SSD for boot drive and OS

I just ordered a new machine that's destined to become a Centos 6 application server for a publishing company, and decided to get one with a 40GB SSD as well as a standard hard drive. I'm thinking that I can put most of the operating system on that drive and have the home directories and whatnot on the regular hard drive. Are there any pitfalls lying in wait for an unwary person like me when setting this thing up? Further, I suspect that if that thing rattles along like I think it should I'll probably want to add a SSD to my own desktop machine here. Since this computer is already set up with the default Centos 6 partitioning system on a single hard drive (/boot, /home and /) is there an easy way to transfer the OS to the SSD or would I be better off reformatting this thing and starting over from scratch if I want to have a SSD for my boot and OS drive? -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com www.creekfm.com - FIFTY THOUSAND WATTS of POW WOW POWER!

Changing Python Version

Hi; I am trying to change the default version of python on my centos 5.7 box and leave the old installation. Frustrated by not finding any help online, I went ahead and installed Python 2.6 from the source. It appears to be my default, but when I fire up mod_wsgi, it complains that it can't import os. Please advise. TIA, Quincey

Build one VM with two 5.7 DVD iso

Hello Group, I am trying to build one VMware VM for 5.7 centos. However, there are two DVDs. And all vms I have build so far are confined in one iso. How could I build complete 5.7 centos VM with two different Centos DVDs. I am sure somebody out there must have built one such OS. Please guild. thanks. nagrik

System hanged - no info in logs.

Hi All. I had today a problem with my mail server (2.6.18-274.12.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue Nov 29 13:37:35 EST 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux, CentOS release 5.7 (Final)). On my Cacti graphs I see that there has been much I/O write on the disks and then there is no more info. Also in logs (messages, dmesg, netconsole) there is no info for about 15 minutes when there was a problem with the server. I would like to have some info in such situations. Do you know any solutions? Best regards, Rafal.

rhel/centos alternative to logwatch?

Logwatch file shows last upgrade to the code was 2007. The unmatched entries are killing me in the reports. I figure there must be a newer utility centos has in the repo but I cannot find one. Is logwatch the only one that is included? thanks

FW: upgrade issue

Fixed the network issue by removing the net udev rule, somehow that was causing the network no to come up. harddisk partition not created right with centos 5.7

Hello Group, I am building a company application based on Centos 5.7 OS. The application was working earlier and creating right partitions both for hardware as well as VM.
