Centos 5.8 has no "Virtualization" install option

Hi, when I try to install Centos 5.8 on a Dell r410 then I don't get a "Virtualization" option during the package selection of the installer. Centos 5.7 does show that option fine. Is this a known issue? Regards, Dennis

Hi. My provider rebooted the server today or the server rebooted itself because of some problem, still don't know. Anyway: In /var/log/messages now I get zillions of modprobe: FATAL: Could not read '/lib/modules/2.6.32-220.17.1.el6.x86_64/kernel/net/ipv6/ipv6.ko': Invalid module format I am not able to find any solution to this. ??? SMB shares and LDAP

Hi, I have a scenario were I only have OpenLDAP running for authing my Linux and Windows client. Windows is using the pGina LDAP client to talk to my OpenLDAP server, no problems, working like a charm. However I need to setup a simple Samba file server-only. None of my Unix boxes have a compete /etc/passwd file as every one auths against OpenLDAP. Is there some kind of passwd backend option in my smb.conf that allows it to query my OpenLDAP server? Reset adapter

Hi, one of our rented root-server has a problem with the network-adapter.The network is interrupted from time to time and i can not longer connect to our server. We can only reboote (remote) the server and restart the network. I think it was an network-driver-problem from an "Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network" --- e1000e But now i have install a new kernel-driver and i have the same problem again. Centos 6 - vnc - authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages

A window keeps popping up on my remote desktop stating "authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action" and asking for the root password. If I hit cancel it comes back several minutes later. I've found several references to this issue doing various google searches, but nothing that clearly states a solution. Secure VNC access from iPad

Dear Gurus If any of you have been successful in using an iPad as a VNC client with SSH tunnelling, I'd love to know how it's done. I have tried using the iSSH application, but without success. I know that the server is accessible from a Windows client (using TigerVNC), via an SSH tunnel, so the server is properly configured. If you have a working example, please let me know what magic sauce you used. Thanks David

Centos 6 - tigervnc - numbers on keypad

I have a ncurses-based program that runs on a vnc desktop on a remote computer. On Centos 5 you could enter numbers into the program using the numeric keypad. I just installed a new machine running Centos 6 to do this same job and now numbers can only be entered using the numbers across the top of the keyboard. The program still recognizes the keys on the keypad when numlock is not set (so you get home, pgup, left and right cursor, etc.) but I get nothing when I set the numlock key. Having said that, I do see activity when I set numlock and run the xev program, so the keypresses are obviously getting through. How can I make this thing accept numbers from the numeric keypad on Centos 6? Centos 6 - Networking: Some Queries

Hello all I am setting up a Centos 6 machine with one network card & one onboard network port. Both are recognized & work. Onboard Network port is unused yet, but is required for dedicated access to LTSP LAN, which would allow older PIII machines to boot from this system. I have installed LTSP but again Networking seems to be the problem area, as the clients won't boot from this machine. Have muddled & tinkered with Networking a bit...deleted & reconfigured the ifcfg files again & again but as I don't understand NetworkManager and Google is not helping get relevant results, so I have brought the system to minimum working condition, where one network card is providing LAN access on which Internet Router is configured. Now what I want to do is to create a third network for my virtual machines (KVM) say 172.16.1.1/24. Now create some sort of dummy bridge and get these machines talking to the Internet....said bridge to either forward the packets through the normal Internet path or somehow use NAT to do it. I think this should be doable but haven't come across any example or any tutorial for this. Now comes why I want a separate network....why not use 192.168.1.0/24...problem is...I don't want to disable Network Manager by putting Managed=NO in my ifcfg file. As with Network Manager enabled, I can use USB devices whenever my ISP goes down....and I'm afraid it happens more frequently than I care to bear. I frankly also don't understand how Network Manager works....in a broad manner....literature I found was either too technical or too old or was focussed on a particular problem. I would like to know a network/bridge/device topology that can solve my issue....three networks...lan. ltsp, virtual machines, all having access to each other & the net, while keeping the option of using networkmanager or any other tool (I'm open) to plugin any other wireless internet access device.
