Is that right? I am just getting started with this so I am trying to fit what I am reading regarding RAID with what I have dealt with in the past, mainly LVM ext3 volumes. So I am doubtless just not getting it in some important way. BTW, I intend to install CentOS-6.4 with software RAID as the eight disks are mounted in the system chassis. As far as I can tell, there is no hardware RAID controller (unless there is one on the MB, in which case SW Raid is likely a better choice anyway. Problem with X11 application and Nouveau driver

I have finally received and am configuring my new workstations eith the NVS510 graphics cards, and have run into rather a problem. The X server seems to be loading the NOUVEAU driver properly (based on the contents of Xorg.0.log), but I have one X11 application that doesn't work correctly; it runs as though XSynchronized is always True, even though it's explicitly set to False in the code. In other words, its redraw behavior is god-awful; worse because it auto-redraws once per second for little apparent reason. And some of the windows draw with artifacts if they're covered and uncovered. Any ideas, anyone? I will gladly provide more info on request, but I'm not an expert X11 programmer (worse, this application uses a third party wrapper library). Tuning MySQL - what's the best place for mysqld parameters?

Hello CentOS users, for a Wordpress website I have installed mysql-server-5.1.69-1.el6_4.x86_64 and run /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation on a CentOS 6.4 machine with mucho RAM (32 GB) and I wonder, what would be the best place for the mysqld parameters descibed at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/server-parameters.html mysqld_safe --key_buffer_size=64M --table_open_cache=256 \ --sort_buffer_size=4M --read_buffer_size=1M & Should I just edit the file /etc/init.d/mysqld or is there a better place in CentOS for that (under sysconfig?) strange speed of mkfs Centos vs. Debian

Hi, I'm testing a storage system and different network settings and I'm faced with a strange phenomen. Doing a mkfs.ext4 on the centos server lasts 11 minutes. The same mkfs.ext4 command on the debian installation is done in 20 seconds. It is formatting a 14 TB 10Gbit ISCSI Target. It is the same server. Centos and debian are installed on different internal harddisks. Any explanations why debian is so f*** fast? Any hint? Regards . Using CentOS Wordpress rpms

Greetings, Apologies for my seeming daft naivete. I'm wondering if there any sort of conventions for using Wordpress on CentOS? Generally until now, I have had users install Wordpress from tarballs on a case-by-case basis. This means that you can have several different versions of WordPress operating on a site. With the RPM you have a version that can be consistent across multiple websites on one server. Is this done through the use of symlinks, or is there some other, additional magic that gets put to use. I've done a little searching of the Google genie, but I'm only led to webpages outlining installing Wordpress from tarballs. Much thanks, Max Pyziur pyz(a)brama.com

NFS hard mount

Is there a tunable to set NFS hard mount time out? For instance, if the server becomes unavailable for extended amount of time, say 1 hour. I would like to timeout after 30 secs. (Soft mount isn't an option, BTW) -- --- Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.--

Scrabble??

Does anyone know a way to run a Scrabble program on CentOS? (I realize the obvious existence of Wine and of virtual machines; but my experience with both has been thoroughly unsatisfactory. So I'd much rather get a linux-native app.) There seem to be two proprietary Scrabble programs, one in which you play against the computer, and one in which you play against a remote friend. The latter is what I'm being asked for by Her Who Must Be Obeyed. virtualbox, lvextend, etc.

I'm using virtualbox with one of the tests I have for centos 6.4. I realized after creating the disk, the default was too small. I added more disk space with: VBoxManage modifyhd /Users/user/VirtualBox\ VMs/centos\ 6.x/centos\ 6.x.vdi --resize 25000 I then used this site to help me resize the lvm: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/2768-extending-lvm-partition-wi… but when I do: df -h I still see only the original 8gig disk (8gig total - 4gig data/4gig swap)). When I look at pvscan in lvm, it says 23.92GiB is the size of the volume. Why doesn't df see it correctly? Thanks, -wes
