CentOS 6-6.3 -> no updates and security fixes?

Hi All. I've found: This directory (and version of CentOS) is depreciated. For normal users, you should use /6/ and not /6.3/ in your path. Please see this FAQ concerning the CentOS release scheme: http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=34 If you know what you are doing, and absolutely want to remain at the 6.3 level, go to http://vault.centos.org/ for packages. Please keep in mind that 6.0, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 no longer gets any updates, nor any security fix's. in http://eu-msync.centos.org/centos-6/6.3/readme Is CentOS 6-6.3 really not updated anymore? Parted Bug? in C 5.9

I'm receiving the following error when trying to repartition and reformat a USB flash drive via parted using a simple script. Supermicro & Boot Failures with DVD Centos 6.2

Eve.8ryone, I have had a SuperMicro machine running Centos 5.8 that had been progressively updated with yum-cron from a 5.0 CD install. I upgraded the SuperMicro with more memory, switched out the CD with a DVD and tried to boot to the Centos x64 6.2 dvd. My plan was to test the memory before I added the hard drives, but I could not I could not get the machine to boot from the disc. I also tried some Fedora install discs as well as LiveFedora and the machine would still not boot. I could get it to boot with a dreaded Microsoft install disc. We also updated the bios with the latest version and this did not make a difference. We have not tried to use these disks with the hard drives installed yet because we were in the process of just testing the memory. Has anyone had this problem with SuperMicro's. Is the problem as simple as a requirement to have a hard disc installed. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you, Greg Ennis

Trying to justify CentOS vs. RHEL

Hi all, I'm in the process of moving all of my RHEL systems over to CentOS but the argument that fires back at me is for critical vulnerabilities for items such as zero-day exploits and such. >From what I've been reading, RHEL releases critical patches much quicker than CentOS which makes sense since CentOS is simply a copy and when changes occur they propagate down to the RHEL clones. My question is what kind of time frame are we looking at when a vulnerability (critical or high) is announced and a patch has been released for RHEL does it get implemented into CentOS? Thanks! ECC memory errors

I started to receive this kind of messages a few days ago on one of my servers: Message from syslogd@ at Mon Apr 29 08:02:55 2013 ... server1 kernel: EDAC MC0: UE row 0, channel-a= 0 channel-b= 1 labels "-": (Branch=0 DRAM-Bank=0 RDWR=Read RAS=0 CAS=0, UE Err=0x2 (Aliased Uncorrectable Non-Mirrored Demand Data ECC)) I've never had ECC memory to fail on me before, so now I am wondering the following: * The server is running CentOS 5.7 and is acting as Xen dom0. Is there any possibility this could be a kernel issue and upgrading would help, or would upgrading at this point just cause more trouble? * Is there now a possibility that my data can get corrupt: should I shutdown the server as soon as possible or can I keep running until I replace the memories? * This server has been running for several years in a datacenter without problems: what are your experiences, are these kind of problems most likely caused by a failing motherboard or the memories? dual head on centos 5 and ancient Nvidia Quadro NVS280SD card

I was just handed a 2nd monitor for my system at work, and using Centos 5 (latest) can't make dual head work. a good bit of googling isn't being particularly helpful either. It's a HP workstation xw4100, with Nvidia Quadro NVS280SD graphics card. Enabling dual head in the "display" app simply configures X so that it (i.e., X) won't start. I haven't found the x log file in /var/log to be helpful, either. This is using the legacy 96.x.x driver from Nvidia. the NvidiaDetect app (from epel) says it should be using a newer driver than the 96.x.x (forgot which one, exactly) but when attempting to install it I get a msg that the card requires a 96.x.x driver. browsing to nvidia.com and entering the model numbers into their driver finder app gives another newer version that also gives the same result. So it looks like I'm stuck with the 96.x.x driver. some googling indicates a few people have made it work, but none of their methods are working for me. I was beginning to wonder if the hardware even supported dual head, so I booted up a Fedora 17 LIVE CD. it initializes both monitors with no action from me at all, with a desktop spanning the two screens, just fine. It must be using the Nouveau driver (which, AFAIK, can't be used on Centos 5), so still the issue could either be spanning/dual head doesn't work with the ancient nvidia driver, or we (neither me, nor the tools on Centos) knows how to configure it.
