I'm posting from my phone, so I have no choice but to top post. I have run across an issue like this. I have noticed the drives make a clicking noise if they are in an enclosure. I have then taken them out and they were perfectly fine. I found that the controller card in the enclosure was bad and not the hard drive. HDD Problem....

Ok so I have a 500GB WD "Blue Scorpion" HDD that I'm trying to access via USB, when I boot up my CentOS laptop the lights on the external USB casing light up...and I can hear the drive making noise, but after a few minutes I hear an abrupt "click" and the drive doesn't do anything. I can SEE it in the Disk Utility in CentOS,...I even tried to format it from there as well and the symptoms are still the same. The lights come on...it looks like its about to do something...and then the loud click and nothing happens. Can anyone volunteer some advice as to where I would look for troubleshooting this issue? CentOS 6.4 installation fails with message "No usable disks have been found"

Hi folks, I inherited a very old computer (I guess about 8 years old) which I'd like to use for some training on CentOS. I downloaded images for CentOS 6.4 i386 (DVD 1 and 2) and burned them onto discs. After inserting DVD 1 into drive and booting, on the "Welcome to CentOS 6.4!" screen I select "Install or upgrade an existing system". I then skip the media test and start the installation. Then I get a graphical installer where I choose english language and U.S. international keyboard layout. Then I'm questioned about "What type of devices will your installation involve"? where I select "Basic Storage Devices" and then proceed. I get a dialog "Examining devices" with the message "Examining storage devices". After a short while a dialog "No disks found" appears displaying the message "No usable disks have been found". I then go back and choose "Specialized Storage Devices" but I then get the same result (no devices are found). Just to be sure that there are disks available and hardware works I installed a current Debian which works fine. From the BIOS and from Debian shell command "dmesg | grep -i ata" I see that there are two "Maxtor 6Y120L0" installed. Find output of "dmsg" below that email. Is it possible and what steps are necessary to install CentOS 6.4 on that "Maxtor 6Y120L0" hard disks? trac, agilo plugin, rpm, aughghgh!!!

CentOS 6.5, with the current trac, and trac-agilo-plugin. I seem to have problems, and maybe even a bug in the packaging. I installed and got trac running with authentication. Fine. I installed and enabled the agilo plugin. Supposedly fine. Except it doesn't work. On the trac web pages, in the upper right, there's a text link labelled "admin"... but when I mouse over it, what I see in firefox is the path to the cgi/undefined. Undefined? If I search on how to activate the agilo plugin, it tells me to click on the admin icon on the toolbar... but there isn't any such. Finally, on the information I found with *much* googling, it mentions that to enable plugins, I might need to set PYTHON_EGG_CACHE. Now, the rpm installed it under /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/, and I see agilo, and agilo-0.9.7-py2.6.egg-info, and agilo_lib, and there's no egg per se. Is there a but with the trac package, that something's missing, or am I missing something? And what do I do with about the egg? mark "looks like Humpty Dumpty's got a problem"

Centos for Interested Children

Today, an enthusiastic 10 year old boy asked me about Linux. I thought of telling me to go to centos.org but then realised there is nothing on centos.org for complete beginners to Linux or for children. If anyone has the time, energy and interest, perhaps a basic technical introduction to the Centos version of Linux would be a good long-term objective. Let's catch the children's interest, imagination and enthusiasm before they become immersed and entrapped in a Micro$oft-only world. Centos is for everyone including granddads and children.
