how can I tell what's on the MBR of /dev/sda?

Subject says it. I would like to find out if I have anything written on the MBR of a disk in my system /dev/sda, or any other device. If there is something there, is it readable, or recognizable to humans? thanks, -chuck

yum-config-manager, does --save/--setopt work?

What is the point of --save in yum-config-manager. I cannot figure out how to use --setopt= $ yum-config-manager --save --setopt="exclude=samba*" updates Seems evident what that should do, but it doesn't do anything. CentOS 7 auto mounting non authenticated users

Hi, I mentioned this issue in reply to "CentOS 7.1 user login screen can't scroll up/down" but heard nothing. We authenticate using NIS and our home directories are mounted via NFS. Once a user logs into a CentOS7 workstation their username appears in the login screen 'user list'. I have disabled the list but notice that after a reboot running mount -l shows all previously authenticated users home directories are being mounted over NFS again automatically. Is this normal? I have noticed some latency issues with the NFS and assume it is related, can anybody verify if this is a bug or a configuration error? Surely they shouldn't re-mount until the user authenticates again? thanks in advance, Michael

Question centos 7 upgrade

Hello, I make a test installation with the new iso 1503-01 but I mean with this release is anything broken ? The first thing, is it "normal" with this release avahi-daemon is not installed! I disable this always ;-) The nfs-server installation don't work any more correct for me, I can't connect from a client? some packages are broken like firewall-config? DELL U2412M monitor slow boot

Using large Dell U2412M monitor here, with CentOS7. It is really slow to boot up, each time it would hang after the following messages for a very long time, with no logs, then it would continue to boot up fine: [ OK ] Reached target Initrd Default Target. Welcome to CentOS Linux 7 (Core)! This does not occur for other Dell monitor like DELL P190S. Any ideas?

centos kernel changelog?

I'm probably overlooking something simple, but I can't seem to find a concise changelog for the rhel/centos kernel. I'm on an oldish 6.5 kernel (2.6.32-431), and I want to look at the changes and fixes for every kernel that has been released since, all the way up to the current 6.6 kernel. Anyone have a link to this? Thanks! Matt
