Suggestions for Config Management Tool

Hi, we see a growing need for a better Configuration management for our servers. Are there any known good resources for a comparison of e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible etc? What would you suggest and why? :) Thanks and Regards . Götz

Inconsistancy in RAID documentation

On the wiki page for creating a mirrored root drive, at <https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Install_On_Partitionable_RAID1>, it first tells you, in the install, to chose manual partitioning, and to leave at least 1M at the end of the drive.... and then it tells you to create the RAID 1 using /dev/sda and /dev/sdb - the *whole* raw drives. mark, currently creating a RAID 1 using just the raw drives, no partitions

ClamAV from EPEL

Hello, just curious; since March 3rd, 2016 everdays logwatch-mail shows this: Last Status: WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! WARNING: Local version: 0.99 Recommended version: 0.99.1 on May 4th, 2016 I updated clamav by yum update clamav since then the daily logwatch-mail shows this: Last Status: WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! WARNING: Local version: 0.99.1 Recommended version: 0.99.2 I guess, that it happened accidentally, that I just updated the day before ClamAV did a bigger change; as I had tried 'yum update clamav' several times before; do these warnings raise any problems? could they be suppressed? Verifing: CentOS 5 cannot resize a *live* root filesystem

Just want to verify: CentOS 5's FS utilities are too old to safely resize a *live* (mounted, etc.) root file system (and the CentOS 5 installer/rescue system does not include either resize2fs or fsadm utilities). I am presuming I will need a full-fledged Live CD/DVD to resize the root file system. This is for an old 32-bit laptop that presently has CentOS 5.11 on it -- I want to shrink the root file system (it is LVM) and make a separate /home file system, then upgrade it to something newer (not C6, since it is not PAE -- I'm *hoping* Ubuntu's 32-bit installer can deal with a non-PAE 32-bit system). -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 Deepwoods Software -- Custom Software Services http://www.deepsoft.com/ -- Linux Administration Services heller(a)deepsoft.com -- Webhosting Services

Hello Nux, in the mean while I update straight forward my repo for tests in case of multimedia. - ffmpeg 2.8.7 (I know ffmpeg 3 is there, but can break multimedia everywhere - must take a look). - x264-debuginfo-0.148-1.20160118git5c65704 - libdvdnav 5.0.3 - libdvdread 5.0.3 - libdvdcss 1.4 rebuilt my vlc, mplayer & gstreamer-plugins-ugly against this libraries. Everything works well. Got in mind upgrade x264 can effect handbrake and xine in your repo. http://centos.cms4all.org/centos/7/gstreamer/SRPM/ Everything can be found here. I don't know if your are interested, but you can find makemkv 1.9.10 with a little new structur: makemkv-common (libraries in /usr/bin/lib64) makemkv-bin (need for vlc or xmbc /kodi) to play crypted blu ray) makemkv-oss the qt application vlc 2.2.3 can be compile straight forward. xmbc & kodi if you like (take a look at the specs): xmbc 13.2 , old but worked here good kodi 16.1 more depends both versions work with xbmc.plugin.makemkvbluray.zip blu ray - 0.9.2 libaacs 0.8.1 (not needed by me, because i use makemkv - the only one wiche works for me) Everthing can be found at http://centos.cms4all.org/centos/7/media/SRPM/ Wine-dev 1.9.10 compiled but not tested. http://centos.cms4all.org/centos/7/wine/x86_64/ beside i compiled gimp 2.8.16 (needs elrepo) because i integrate help-browser. http://centos.cms4all.org/centos/7/other/SRPMS/ Netbeans 8.1 (full package - Oracle-Jdk1.8-92-1), because netbeans works best with oracle java. http://centos.cms4all.org/centos/java/SRPMS/ I'm not crazy, I work on my machine with long term security fixes :-) What I'm doing: Watch Video private develop java, php, with databases. Hi All, I am having a terrible time installing multi media tools like smplayer (which requires mplayer), which is not avaiable from the centos repos. I have installed epel.repo which containa the epel-release repo info for yum Still I cannot install many things. Xwindow: unable to connect to display in CR 6.8

Hello everyone, I just installed the CentOS 6.8 updates from the CR repository, and then I rebooted the server. I run some software to make weather images on a website, and I have run into a problem. When I do it, the software, as it tries to plot the image, says: Xwindow: unable to connect to display It just stopped working when I did the updates. Has anyone else seen this, or have an idea on what to look for to get this fixed? To plot it, I use syntax's of machine:0 machine:1 machine:2 Which lets me plot it using virtual frame buffers (Xvfb). When I do xhost + servername , it says it has been added to the control list...but it still doesn't fix the issue. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? Rsyslog on C7

Hi, I have problems with rsyslog on C7. In /etc/rsyslog.d/iptables.conf I have: # Log all iptables stuff separately :msg, contains, "iptables: " { action(type="omfile" file="/var/log/iptraf/info") stop } THis works fine. In /etc/rsyslog.d/mail.conf I have: # Log all the mail messages in one place. if ($syslogfacility-text == 'mail') then { action(type="omfile" file="/var/log/mail/info") stop } This does not work, neither does a line like: mail.* /var/log/mail/info if I put that in /etc/rsyslog.conf. What am I doing wrong???
