CentOS6 - Stop NUX Skype auto-start with gnome desktop

How does one configure Skype/Gnome such that one can have Skype installed but not auto-start when the Gnome desktop opens? I have looked in the 'System/Preferences/Startup Applications' menu but Skype is not listed there. There are no options in the Application itself that allow this setting either. If there no other way then I will remove the application package and re-install when I need it. But surely there is a way to control this behaviour and the problem is that I simply cannot find it. Hi When I install package on CentOS7 with below command : yum install <package_name> I will hit errors like: # yum install httpd Loaded plugins: fastestmirror http://centos-distro.1gservers.com/7.2.1511/os/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden Trying other mirror. To address this issue please refer to the below knowledge base article https://access.redhat.com/solutions/69319 If above article doesn't help to resolve this issue please create a bug on https://bugs.centos.org/ The link need an RedHat Product Series Number to access but I do not have one. So not read yet. I did a few search can sure about below information: 1. Do not using http_proxy in my env 2. SElinux and firewall is closed 3. yum clean all do not help I also try to replace all files in my /etc/yum.repos.d with files from a working machine. But still have error. One more thing I did is to add timeout=9999 minrate=0 in /etc/yum.conf. Because if I do not do this. Help with C7 start script

Under the old C6 I put an entry in rc.local to run my programs I want. We will call it /path/boot.sh Worked fine. Under C7 I have created a new service file for systemd. It looks like: --------------- [Unit] Description=Company After=network.target [Service] Type=forking ExecStart=/path/boot.sh [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target ----------- For the most part this works every time on boot. However - when I do a "yum update" and the kernel changes part of my boot.sh is to detect that kernel change and recompile some of my drivers. The kernel change is detected and the recomiling starts - but after some time the process just stops. If I rerun it manuall it will then complete as normal. So my question is - Is my service script above not complete? Is they system looking for it to exit in a certain amount of time and it hasnt exited so it KILLs my script ? something like that ? What is missing from my script so it does not kill it after some time ? Thanks Jerry

CentOS 7.2 and KDE

Good afternoon, I apologize if this is off-topic. I just installed CentOS 7 on my laptop and I used KDE. I can't seem to get the "hibernate" option. I've tried editing the options under "Power" but it hasn't appeared. Any thoughts? Thanks! Jeff

Problem with cloud-init on re-boot

When I re-boot my CentOS 7 machine I get lots of error/warning messages like the following: ------------------------------ Jan 1 14:39:04 alfred cloud-init: 2016-01-01 14:39:04,351 - url_helper.py[WARNING]: Calling 'http://169.254.169.254/2009-04-04/meta-data/instance-id' failed [2/120s]: unexpected error ['NoneType' object has no attribute 'status_code'] ------------------------------ Re-booting with the current kernel, 3.10.0-327.22.2.el7.x86_64, sometimes fails, I think because of this problem, although the previous kernel seems to avoid the issue. I've actually disabled cloud-init, but I'm wondering if there is a simple solution to the problem? Actually, I don't remember installing cloud-init; maybe it was brought in by some other package? mate crash

While playing an audio in totem, the mate desktop crashed. I couldn't switch to a console like I use to be able to do with ctrl-alt-F{n} - seems that is gone is from CentOS. I couldn't open a terminal by right clicking on the desktop. I was able to open a folder, navigate to /usr/bin and open gnome-terminal that way and issue the shutdown command. Since switching to virtual consoles no longer seems to work, what is the proper way to deal with rebooting a system when the window manager with all its menus crashes? CentOS 7 -- -=- Sent my from my laptop, may not be able to respond timely

firewalld cloud-init dhcp error

Dear members, Please tell me what's wrong. After setig firewalld, I got fail on cloud-init with reboot. The server is rebooted, but I cannot access from internet. Before reboot I can access form internet. PolicyKit calls fail from rtkit-daemon

Hi everyone, I'm having some odd system behavior on two CentOS 7 machines. I suspect that the trouble is related to polkitd and dbus I think that the following error message is a key clue, but I'm not sure how to continue troubleshooting it:. --------------------------begin log----------------------- Jul 15 10:00:27 localhost rtkit-daemon[1609]: Warning: PolicyKit call failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. --------------------------end log----------------------- I can confirm that things seem to temporarily improve by killing polkitd and letting it be restarted by systemd. I was getting "out of memory" errors form polkitd until I increased the stack memory limit This is all part of various login issues when using the Gnome and Gnome-classic desktop environments over XRDP. I've temporarily disabled the GNOME and Gnome-classic environments for my users when sing RDP and set the default to MATE, since MATE seems to be acting correctly. KDE seems to be fine as well. Other pertinent info: # uname -r 3.10.0-327.10.1.el7.x86_64 # rpm -q systemd systemd-219-19.el7_2.9.x86_64 # rpm -q polkit polkit-0.112-6.el7_2.x86_64 Any help or guidance that can be given is appreciated.
