Missing python-reportlab-2.5-11.el7_9

I am having troubles finding the -11 update to python-reportlab. I just got dinged for: Remote package installed : python-reportlab-2.5-10.el7 Should be : python-reportlab-2.5-11.el7_9 I don't see it in the list of updates, my local mirror, or at: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/updates/x86_64/Packages/ Thanks, Chris

Well, it fixed the firefox crash, but now 115.7.0 locks up CentOS 7. The only thing working is the mouse cursor. Clicking the mouse on anything has no affect. Keyboard ctrl-alt-del has no affect. The computer has to have power removed and then restored and rebooted. chrome/chromium crashing on CS9

Is anyone else seeing Chrome/Chromium crash on on CS9? It's unusable for me, crashes on loading any web page. Most coredumps seem corrupted. I'm still using CentOS 7 (because the stream sucks). Recently there was a yum upgrade for firefox. I had to downgrade to the previous version because the latest version keeps crashing. Anyone else experience this?

Hi guys. I'm trying to install Centos 9 Stream on a nvme - before I start tampering with other OSes - would anybody have an idea why... after a seemingly successful installation OS wont boot - hardware sees nvme drive, bios does - it does not see new/any EFI boot entry? To make it more bizarre - virtually identical hardware, only CPU is Ryzen Pro 3900 and not 3700 - and same Centos succeeded, it boots & starts fine. I'm going to try again with the latest available ISO as of today, but in the meanwhile - I'm hoping you can share some thoughts/ideas. many thanks, L.

Disappearing content in Firefox (CentOS Stream 8)

Does anyone else experience issues with the Firefox version supplied with CentOS Stream 8? It mostly works on my system, but I have this recurring problem where I use it for a while (a few hours, maybe), accessing different sites, opening and closing windows and/or tabs perhaps - then all of a sudden, all content and also menus, toolbars etc. disappear; the windows turn into empty frames or frames filled with garbage data, and there doesn't seem to be a way to recover, except restarting. I've had this for a long time, across several updates. I can't really tie the problem to specific activities or web sites. I should perhaps add that when I say I use it for a while, I don't necessarily mean that I work actively with my browser windows all the time - but they typically stay open the whole day, to put it that way. Is this a common issue? Is there a way to avoid it? Thanks. - Toralf

Firefox crashes (disappears) and I get a cryptic (to me) message about some security violation. I did not save that information. Do you use the TST colored tabs add-on? I can describe the same behavior because of it. Once disabled ffx is back. I don't know what TST colored tabs are. I have several add-ons such as Noscript and various video downloaders. I'm using: firefox-115.6.0-1.el7.centos.x86_64 and also: firefox 121.0.1 (64-bit) -- from the Mozilla repo and am not seeing issues with either. The version I downgraded to is 102.15.0. The upgrade that crashes I believe is 115.15.0. CentOS box images at Vagrant Cloud give 404

Hi, At Vagrant Cloud there are "box" images for stream8 and stream9 [1]. At least they are supposed to be there. The download links on the detail pages, for example for stream9 20230727.1 [2] are redirected to cloud.centos.org, however they give an 404 error. Possibly the centos Vagrant Cloud page is not kept up to date with the actual box images that are now present on cloud.centos.org. Do we know who is maintaining this centos account at Vagrant Cloud? Both with and without Wayland enabled in /etc/gdm/custom.conf This morning I updated the system and the kernel is now 5.14.0-404.el9.x86_64, and I'm not able to see the console in any of the 3 configurations above in my bmc kvm remote terminal. Ssh connection to the system is ok without problem. Inside the remote kvm console I see the grub menu, I see the scrolling kernel boot sequence (I removed rhgb quiet options), but at the end my remote kvm display square disappears. How can I debug? Configure WiFi at install on CentOS Stream 9

Hi, I'm trying to install CS-9 and need to have WiFi setup on boot. I've tried installing with KVM as a test but only get the choice of an ethernet connection at install time. I've tried installing onto a spare laptop and it gives a choice of ethernet or WiFi for network connections. I choose WiFi and it allows me to configure the WiFi. It detects the network and the IP-address. However when I reboot the laptop there is no WiFi connection. Any suggestions. Thanks, Tony

Hi guys Though being a mere user, - as opposed to an expert - in many long years of ssh in my use this, is new: -> $ ssh box5.proxmox.mine hostname -i 10.3.1.78 -> $ ssh box5 hostname -i Warning: the RSA host key for 'box5' differs from the key for the IP address '10.3.1.78' Offending key for IP in /root/.ssh/known_hosts:2 Matching host key in /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts:2 Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes 10.3.1.78 This is same one host I _ssh_ to. Hallo, I try to use a usb-boot stick for installation on a newer pc.UEFI can t be disabled . Everythings works fine until I try to use a own ks.cfg for automation. resetting a serial port

I have Centos 7 arm32 running on a Cubieboard and I am logged in as root on its serial uart from another system. On that system I use screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 Well it was working well for a couple days, but now only garbage comes across. Something messed up the serial link. pulling the usb cable to the usb/serial adapter does not reset things. I can ssh into the server and see root logged into ttyS0 How do I reset that serial port so that I can work on the system? thanks

mdadm: --update=resync not understood for 1.x metadata

Hi All, Recently I had to update a host that uses raid1 for /boot and /boot/efi and I noticed that my resync service is failing with "mdadm: --update=resync not understood for 1.x metadata”. Does anyone know why 'mdadm-4.2-rc2.el8.x86_64.rpm’ supports it but 'mdadm-4.2-13.el8.x86_64’ not ? Why the version is not properly bumped if such drastic change is intentional ? Apps moving to laptop display when switching KVM

So I installed CentOS Stream 9 on a new Lenovo T14 Gen 4 Intel. I have a 4x1 HDMI KVM with external monitor. When switching the KVM, apps move between displays / workspaces in erratic ways. More specifically, when switching out, apps on the external display usually move to the laptop display. This sorta makes sense for a laptop with an external display. When the external display is disconnected, you want to have access to the apps. But for a KVM, the desired behavior is that the apps do NOT move. When switching back, I want all apps (terminals) to be where they were when I switched out. After much searching, I have found NO discussion of this issue. Is this a scenario that is even supposed to work? The KVM worked perfectly with the Windows 11 install that come with the machine (apps on the external display did not move when switching the KVM). Questions: Is there a GNOME window manager configuration that does not move apps when it senses the HDMI connection has changed? I actually had this mostly working with a Dell laptop running a RHEL 9 clone and selecting Xorg on the GDM screen. Apps were not moved when switching out (although depending on particular circumstances they could when switching back). Where should I be asking about this? A freedesktop.org list? Where is the code that moves windows in reaction to a change in displays? Currently the only way to reliably switch the KVM without all of the apps loosing their positions is to just suspend the machine before and resume after.

In the past, I've used LVM on MD RAID, and I'd like to try using LVM RAID in order to also add dm-integrity data to some LVs. I've added new PVs to my VG, and I've converted some of my LVs to raid1 types, but I also have one thin pool that I use for VMs with multiple layers of snapshots. selinux blocks rsync client in systemd service

I'm trying to slurp a CentOS 7's filesystem to another CentOS 7 system using rsyncd on the supplying side and rsync running as a client in a timer unit on the client side. My backup script on the backup system runs fine from the command line. When run from a systemd timer unit, rsync sends nothing to the systemd log and I see a denial in the audit log for a Unix domain socket in init_t context. I'm guessing it's trying to write to stdout which is getting redirected to systemd's log. The service unit file has StandardOutput=syslog in order to capture the list of files backed up. The following selinux rule seems to fix this: allow rsync_t init_t:unix_stream_socket { getattr read write }; I also found it necessary to add --no-devices and --no-specials to my backup script, but I can live with that. A few devices show up in chroots and postfix has some sockets in its package. Those are easily recreated if I need to do a restore. So is this selinux rule an oversight? Should there be an rsync bool for it? Or was this fixed in a more recent version of systemd?

old website keep reappering in /var/www/html

Greetings, absurd subject, but I don't know how else I could describe what is happening. I have a small static website hosted on a Centos 7 VPS (that I'll update as soon as possible, but what follows is much more urgent, I must absolutely fix it asap). The website is generated by Hugo. I run hugo on my computer, then rsync everything on the server, in the /var/www/html/hugo/MYWEBSITE folder. Everything worked great for years. This week I rebuilt the whole website almost from scratch, using a different hugo theme and updating many pages. Then I ran rsync, checked the new website in my browser, jumping from page to page, and everything worked as expected: new theme, new content, new menus, everything. 2/3 minutes later, the OLD website reappeared, all of it, as if I had not ran rsync at all. For example, in the new website there is a new subfolder called "bio", that did not exist in the old version. If I ssh to the server, cd to /var/www/html/hugo/MYWEBSITE and run "ls -l" RIGHT AFTER running rsync, I see the "bio" subfolder. If I do "ls -l" 3 minutes later, the "bio" subfolder is no more. I have repeated the rsync process 5/6 times before writing this email, and it's always the same. Every time I rsync, what I uploaded lasts 2/3 minutes, then the WHOLE folder on the server is erased and refilled with the previous full version of the website. It's as if there were some hidden cron job somewhere that runs hugo on the OLD source files, but I can't find it. All the standard methods one can find by googling "how to list all cron jobs" don't show anything that may be the reason. THANKS in advance for any help, Marco

ThinkPad battery calibration on CentOS 8

Hi Does anyone know of a way to recalibrate the battery on a ThinkPad laptop under CentOS Stream 8? I did this on the same machine before, but I can't recall exactly how. And maybe I was on CentOS 7 at the time. I know about the "tlp" command, but I haven't had much luck with it so far, as shown here: $ sudo tlp recalibrate BAT1 Setting temporary charge thresholds for BAT1: start = 96 (no change) stop = 100 (no change) Error: battery discharge/recalibrate not available. Also, "tlp-stat" says (after displaying status values etc.) +++ Recommendations * Install acpi_call kernel module for ThinkPad battery recalibration I can't seem to find an easy way to install the module in question, though. I also seem to remember that there was a different tool as well, but I've forgotten its name, and a web search returns little of use... Any ideas? - Toralf

I've noticed that recently, for a while, only these controllers are enabled by default: -> $ cat "/sys/fs/cgroup/user.slice/user-$(id -u).slice/user@$(id -u).service/cgroup.controllers If I remember correctly 'cpu' was also available by default not long time ago. kernel: net_ratelimit: 18 callbacks suppressed

CentOS 7.9 system. My 2 servers at home have been spewing this error message every few minutes to /var/log/messages. But there's no preceding message to tell me what's being suppressed. From googling for this, I understand that the failure to log the real message is a bug in the v3 series kernels and v4 fixes that. 2 servers at the office and another on a VPS with 7.9 do NOT issue this message. So I'm guessing something on my home LAN is causing it. Running tcpdump, I don't see any correlation between LAN traffic and ratelimit messages, though. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this?

Latest 9-Stream ISO fails to boot after install

Hello, I was performing a test install of CentOS Stream 9 using the latest[1] available dvd iso from the mirror[2]. I manually select "minimal install" from the selectable packages. The install seems to go smoothly. Upon reboot I am greeted with: [FAILED] Failed to start Switch Root Further examination of the switch-root service shows the following: Failed to switch root: Specified switch root path '/sysroot' does not seem to be an OS tree. os-release file is missing. Current RHEL fragmentation landscape

Hi, I've quickly made an incomplete list of the RHEL and clones/forks landscape to see what the current situation is. The interesting question will be how this will change in the coming years and how it affects Red Hat/IBM and the Linux users in general. RHEL ("The Original", quasi Gold standard until June 2023) CentOS Stream (rolling RHEL next) Oracle Linux (almost 1:1 rebuild with own patches, adds own packages) Rocky Linux (tries to be 1:1 rebuild) AlmaLinux (ABI compatible rebuild) EuroLinux (status unknown) Springdale Linux (status unknown) Navy Linux (status unknown) SUSE RHEL fork (status unknown) For me it's clear that RHEL and certain clones/forks are here to stay. Large enterprises or institutions like CERN and Fermilab will continue to use RHEL and their favorite rebuild. Whoever likes it or not. The same goes for a lot of SMEs and private users. It will be interesting to see what turns out to be the new Gold standard. " Personally I expect we may see not one, but two Gold standards in the future. To run commercial applications, RHEL will stay the Gold standard. To run all kind open source software, one of the clones/forks may be the winner. Red Hat may also be attacked in the commercial space by Oracle and other commercial players. I can't predict the future but my feeling is that AlmaLinux has a good chance to become the second Gold standard. To those who call my discussion OT, let me say this: CentOS has brought us into the current situation. Bear with us as we find our way out of this trap. I'm interested to hear some other ideas before I leave. Thanks, Simon

Somehow the text of my message got deleted: I'm still using CentOS 7 because both security and stability are important to me. While CentOS Stream may, or may not, have comparable security, it is severely lacking in stability. IMHO both CentOS 8 and CentOS 9 are gigantic piles of garbage. When the time comes that CentOS 7 no longer meets my needs, I'll be switching to some other distro, most likely Debian. Hi, As I found out yesterday, the fragmentation of the "Enterprise Linux" ecosystem just started to come true. I expect this is only the beginning and Red Hat may also start to completely hold back sources of non GPL software which is part of the "Enterprise Linux" ecosystem. I'm really wondering, how will this help anybody and how will this help Red Hat in the long run? I've been using and promoting the Red Hat "(Enterprise) Linux" ecosystem for more than two decades. But, who will I promote in the future if this ecosystem becomes fragmented? I'm still trying to find answers but it's quite difficult. Mirror problems with elfutils-debuginfod-client

The package elfutils-debuginfod-client is needed for even a minimal install, but it is not available on most mirrors. I suspect some are excluding mirroring debuginfo packages with just a *debuginfo* pattern to rsync, where they should do something like *-debuginfo-*.rpm (which should be good for now as I don't see any package with just "debuginfo" in the name, even in Fedora). Tomcat 7 in CentOS 7.9

CentOS 7 EPEL rpms

Running C7 and using geany 1.37 which is the latest version available for C7 in EPEL. geany-plugins in EPEL, however, are at 1.38 and there is a bug in one of the plugins that could conceivably be due to version mismatch. I have just spent two hours searching high and low to see if there might be a site where geany-plugins-1.37 could be found but to no avail. I have found 1.31 on several sites and, of course, 1.38 since many mirror EPEL. I have relied on cern.ch in the past and hoped they might have it but could not find geany at all searching their site. I should also add that I could not get the source code for 1.37 to compile on my system due to some tool that is too old so did not pursue that further. Is anyone running 1.37 under C 7 and can confirm that projectmanager plugin is at 1.37? Thanks.

Hi, I am running MySQL DB server 8.0.31 (mysql-community-server-8.0.31-1.el7.x86_64) on the CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core) operating system and have enabled replication between Master and Standby. IP routing basics?

Hi guys. I've always try to leave as mush as possible to the kernel but here I had to resort to source/rule based routing and I wonder why. Any expert cared to share some light on what is (not)happening here HOME -- tunnel --> public iface SHED gw A iface; B iface <-- to respectively --> SOME box A iface; B iface HOME can get to both A & B ifaces, (which are different subnets) all the way up to the SOME box Now, a DIFFERENT box runs/is behind/on that SOME box, which connects to A iface & B iface respectively (which SOME's A & B ifaces are linux bridges) need - so it appears - manual rules in order to have HOME get to DIFFERENT's iface B with IPs: 10.3.9.0/24 -> tunnel -> SHED's 10.1.1.254 & 10.3.1.254 -> SOME's 10.1.1.99 & 10.3.1.99 - all good! ---||--- -> DIFFERENT's 10.1.1.50 - works ---||--- -> DIFFERENT's 10.3.1.50 - for this one I need to set rules (on DIFFERENT only) so HOME can get to it All boxes have METRICs set the same way: iface on 10.1.1.0/24 runs with 111 & on 10.3.1.0/24 runs with 113 metrics. So I must(?) use these, so HOME can get to DIFFERENT's both ifaces: -> $ ip ro ls table 113 default via 10.3.1.254 dev enp0s3 -> $ ip ro ls table 114 default via 10.1.1.254 dev enp0s10 & rules: 32764: from 10.3.1.0/24 to 10.3.9.0/24 lookup 113 32765: from 10.1.1.0/24 to 10.3.9.0/24 lookup 114 I'd prefer to not to use human-set rules but if not possible, I'll be happy with an explanation. many tanks, L.
