Hi Everybody :) I'm sorry if this is unwanted noise but I'm struggling to find the answer to what is probably a ridiculously simply problem. Setup vncserver but it likes to run as a user (reading parameters from ~/.vnc/xstartup of the user the process runs as). graphics driver

I did installation of CentOS5.5 in text mode and made changes at the following places in the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf : section "device" identifier : "vesa" driver:"vesa" section "screen" device:"vesa" Also in the file /etc/inittab I changed id:3:initdefault to id:5:initdefault so that I can boot linux in graphical mode. I had to make the changes in xorg.conf because the visibility of the graphics was so poor that it was impossible to work. The installation was done on Dell Inspiron N5010 with the chipset: Intel(R) HM57 Express chipset LPC interface controller 3B0B which is a part of Mobile intel 5 series The video controller is: Intel (R) HD Graphics Although graphics is there but the resolution and refresh rate are limited to 1024*768 and 0Hz, so I need to find the video driver. I had given "i810" in xorg.conf but that didn't work. Which driver is recommended?

Hello Guys, Recently, I have installed some custom packaged of glibc in servers I manage due to vulnerabilities. At that time, official centos packages were not available. "yum downgrade" is attempting to remove lot of packages which I can't afford. Yum install is hitting dependency errors. Is there a way out ? Dell E6410

Just recently bought a Dell E6410 with a Intel® HD Graphics with ExpressCard with I7-640m processor. Having some issues getting a graphical env to work. By just the looks of lspci X is wanting to use the VGA Compatable controller: Intel Corp Core Processor Intergrated graphics controller. Everything else is using Intel Corp Series 5/3400 Series Chipset. Has anyone else had any luck getting similar intel onboard grphics to work? -- Bo Lynch

temp dir, httpd and selinux

Hi, I have a php software installed on a centos server with selinux enforced activeted. The php software (glpi --> http://www.glpi-project.org) have a plugin that must write on a temp dir... but selinux dont give access to that dir to write. How should i do ? lewis

Thanks you so much Peter. I thought it is fixed in latest centos rpm. I got "custom packaged of glibc" from a third party(which I know as reliable) site. Do you have any information about availability of a patched replacement at this time? -- Regards, Sherin

Maybe OT : strange wildcard behaviour

Hi, I'm currently working through some basic HOWTOS (Linux Fundamentals 1-4 by Gentoo founder Daniel Robbins) on a CentOS 5.5 server, just to keep in shape. I've just noticed a curious wildcard behaviour, which I can't really explain. Let's say I wanted to list all the files or directories in /tmp starting with any uppercase character. Normally, I would do this : $ ls -d /tmp/[A-Z]* Curiously enough, this command lists *all* the content of /tmp, consisting of a majority of files and directories starting with a *lowercase* character. I've tested this on two different machines, with the same results. I'm puzzled. Can anybody offer an explanation for this curious behaviour ? Cheers, Niki

can't install mono-devel because mono-basic requires mono-core. But I have mono-core! What to do? I need gmcs.

Hi. I'm trying to install gmcs so that I can build gbrainy, a mental exerciser. I am not sure what package provides, maybe mono-devel? however mono-devel fails to install because, it says, mono-basic requires mono-core. I have mono-core installed. Why is this failing? $ sudo yum install mono-devel.i386 ...-> Finished Dependency Resolution mono-basic-1.0.6-1.el5.rf.i386 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: mono-core = 1.0.6-1.el5.rf is needed by package mono-basic-1.0.6-1.el5.rf.i386 (installed) Error: Missing Dependency: mono-core = 1.0.6-1.el5.rf is needed by package mono-basic-1.0.6-1.el5.rf.i386 (installed) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest $ rpm -q mono-core mono-core-1.0.6-1.el5.rf $ Any suggestions? hi all! back in Aug several of you assisted me in solving a problem where one of my drives had dropped out of (or been kicked out of) the raid1 array. something vaguely similar appears to have happened just a few mins ago, upon rebooting after a small update. I received four emails like this, one for /dev/md0, one for /dev/md1, one for /dev/md125 and one for /dev/md126: Subject: DegradedArray event on /dev/md125:fcshome.stoneham.ma.us X-Spambayes-Classification: unsure; 0.24 Status: RO Content-Length: 564 Lines: 23 This is an automatically generated mail message from mdadm running on fcshome.stoneham.ma.us A DegradedArray event had been detected on md device /dev/md125. Faithfully yours, etc. P.S. I'm not sure which devices need to be failed and re-added to make it clean again (which is all I had to do when I had the aforementioned earlier problem.) Thanks in advance for any advice! POP3 server

Hi folks A POP3 client not configured to keep a copy of messages on the server, as soon as retieve a message send a DELE commando with the number of the just retrieved message. Then, at the end of the POP3 session, the clent sends a QUIT command, wich order POP3 server to close the conection and delete the messages marqued with DELE command. So, I'm wondering if it's possible to tell Dovecot to actually delete the message when receiving a DELE command instead of marking it for deletion after the QUIT. Or is any other POP3 server capable of doing this other than Dovecot. (running on CentOS of course) Thanks David
