hfsutils package

Has anyone used the hfsutils package? I tried the following and get an error: hfs mount ../vlc-1.1.3-intel.dmg hfsutils version 3.2.6 - Copyright (C) 1996-1998 Robert Leslie This is free software but comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Type `license' for details. expected integer but got "../vlc-1.1.3-intel.dmg" while executing "hfs mount $path $partno" (procedure "hmount" line 20) invoked from within "hmount mount ../vlc-1.1.3-intel.dmg" ("eval" body line 1) invoked from within "eval hmount $argv" invoked from within "if {$argc > 0} { eval hmount $argv }" (file "/usr/bin/hfs" line 457) I'm sure its something I am doing wrong but I dont see it. XEN images and XFS don't seem to get along

Hello listmates, It appears that on the second machine in a row (CentOS 5.5, 32 bit) if I am trying to place a VM into a file located in XFS the machine just hangs (the host machine, not the VM). If I place the VM in a raw device or in a file in ext3 all seems to work perfectly. Is that just a coincidence or is there a reason for this madness? Thanks. Boris.

Please help Thank you. Okay, firstly, when asking for help with a new issue, it is best to start a new message rather than reply to a message on an unrelated topic. Otherwise those of us using threaded mail clients (like Mutt or Thunderbird) might overlook the query. Secondly, we need a little detail about your current network configuration and what you have tried. Is it only browsing that is not working, or do other services not work either? Can you send through the output of: route -n cat /etc/resolv.conf Regards, Ben

LDAP authentication on a remote server (via ldaps://)

Hello, I have a central repository of users/groups based on OpenLDAP which is working on a remote LAN (servers share users credentials and mount their home directories via NFS). They use non-encrypted ldap restricted to the local network. Now, I have a few servers in our local office and I would like them to authenticate from the remote LDAP server using encryption via ldaps://. (at this stage, without using client-side certificate) I have run a similar command as I did on the remote servers, replacing ldap://localldapserver by ldaps://ldap.mycompany.com: authconfig --enableldap --enableldapauth --enablecache --enablemkhomedir --ldapserver=ldaps://ldap.mycompany.com --enableldaptls --ldapbasedn=dc=mycompany,dc=com --passalgo=sha256 --updateall and I put the CA certificate at the right place. (either explicitly pointing to it TLS_CACERT or downloading it to /etc/openldap/cacerts vi system-configuration-authentication) In all my various tests, ldapsearch -x returns the content of the remote LDAP, so I guess that at least openldap clients are properly configured. But when I try: getent passwd the command hangs. Same when I try to: su - myuser (I also tried configuring with the system-configuration-authentication UI from a box with GNOME, and also tried authconfig without --enableldaptls) So is there anything specific to authentication ldaps: that I should have done? (as I said, this approach systematically works with plain ldap on this same LDAP server) Thanks in advance for your help! Mathieu Note: all systems involved are running up to date CentOS 5.5

This error sounds familiar. If it is the same problem I've had a couple of times, every time it happens, I forget what it was I did the last time to fix it. :-( After I remember, it seems almost obvious. Assuming you've got the same problem, you need to log into the account remotely, with out a GUI interface, or as another user. See if you have a file ~/.ICEauthority. If it is there, delete it and then try logging in again. I think that is the right file for the problem I've had. I just remember that some file got corrupted and I had to delete it before GUI logins would work. I hope this helps. Good luck. -- Brent L. Bates (UNIX Sys. Admin.) system "stuck" with 2.6.18-128 kernel. how to move to 2.6.18-194.17?

Hi. I just noticed I had a CentOS 5.3 system that I updated to CentOS 5.5 a few days ago, and I just ran "yum -y update" again to get the latest kernel, and I just noticed it still has the old 2.6.18-128 kernel instead of the new 2.6.18-194.17. What gives? /etc/grub.conf points at 2.6.18-194.17, but when I reboot, 2.6.18-128 comes up. Any suggestions? Hello List, I found these wonderful instruction by Alan Bartlett (thanks Alan) for building a kernel.org kernel that would install on CentOS 5.5. Doing this and moving the resulting .rpm to the target system and doing a rpm -ivh ... works great. Now I am trying to use the same rpm as part of a CentOS respin and the installation fails miserably leaving me with a unbootable system. Using the rescue option I see the following in my install log. Installing kernel-2.6.32.23-1.i386 /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.24949: line 1: uname: command not found /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.24949: line 1: uname: command not found /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.24949: line 1: [: too many arguments /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.24949: line 6: /sbin/new-kernel-pkg: No such file or directory error: %post(kernel-2.6.32.23-1.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 127 Does someone have instructions for building a kernel.org kernel that will install like the standard CentOS kernels? EXT4 mount issue

Hi All, When a couple of EXT4 filesystems are mounted in a server I get the message Oct 1 18:49:42 sraid3 kernel: EXT4-fs (sdb): mounted filesystem without journal Oct 1 18:49:42 sraid3 kernel: EXT4-fs (sdc): mounted filesystem without journal in the system logs. My confusion is why are they mounted without a journal? They were both created with mkfs -t ext4 /dev/sdb mkfs -t ext4 /dev/sdc and mounted in "/etc/fstab" with /dev/sdb /sraid3 ext4 defaults 1 2 /dev/sdc /sraid4 ext4 defaults 1 2 both are 11T and so I would prefer as much stability as possible, io performance is not an issue on either device just integrity so I thought the journal would be default and necessary. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
