sendmail many emails

I was getting MANY emails from XXX.hinet.net - kind of filled my mqueue directory. I stopped sendmail. removed all the files in mqueue, added to sendmail access a REJECT for hinet.net This certainly seems to help - but is that the correct way to take care of this sort of thing? Thanks, Jerry

ethernet outages C5.4

Hello All, I don't have any reason to believe CENTOS (5.4) is underlying my difficulties but it's what I've got to work with so here's the setup: I have a 2P motherboard with 2 Opteron 2376s and two ethernet ports. The setup is fully virtualized, with Dom0, dom4 and Dom1 up and running. dom4 is attached to a dhcp service on eth0 and has no problems. I've recently connected dom1 to eth1. eth1 is connected to a dsl modem (no router) and to the ISP's dsl signal It has a static IP address, 204.174.35.205. At intervals of a few hours the dom1 service on eth1 became inaccessible, not responding for either web or ssh access. eth0 on another provider's network remains up at this time. I can fix the availability issue by ssh'ing to the eth0 side, then ssh from there to dom1 (at 192.168.0.117) and then from the inside out ping any external address, it doesn't seem to matter which one. Then the connections get through and all is well for a while. I have a workaround in place with this command: watch -n 60 ping -c 1 uniserve.com That's been running for two days and access from outside has been uninterrupted. I don't know where to start on this one. It could be a funny router setup at the ISp's end or maybe the port (previously disused) on this board is really flaky (but then why does pinging help?). update of rpm directory

Hi! I have an directory full with rpms that are installed on some machines.. what is the best way to update those rpms to the latest version? are there more optimal approaches then searching for each rpm names in an update repo and download one by one? Thanks, Adrian

automount complaints

Folks, I've been getting complaints in our logfiles, such as May 12 10:07:07 <servername> automount[3415]: update_negative_cache: key ".git" not found in map. a) Is there a FAQ on automount that might cover some of this? Googling hasn't found one for me? b) Any clues as to what might be causing this? I see a lot of it, in spurts. mark

I don't quite understand this part. awk '{print $1}' filename | sort | uniq -c | sort -rn Will give you a number of occurrences (reverse numerically sorted) of uniq data from column one. Now I think you want to put that through a loop and only show those that are less than threshold? hai i have run the halt command from the xshell and the machine got restarted, now when i restart the machine, i am getting this error . .vimrc File Disappeared and Saw vimrc and .viminfo Files in My Home Directory

Hi, I'm not sure what's going on ;-( updated a .vimrc file in my home directory with some customized settings last week. I'm looking at my home directory now, that .vimrc file disappeared for no reason and I saw a file called vimrc and .viminfo in the home directory. Of course, it didn't take my customized settings when I used vim. Is that a normal behavior? Am I missing something here? Thanks Mary

Control what messages go into /var/spool/mail/root

Hi, I found some info messages below in /var/spool/mail/root. To reduce the size of that file, I'm wondering if there's a way to prevent those unimportant messages from entering /var/spool/mail/root.
