The future is here, but Spamassassin doesn't buy it

Hey all, I am getting a number of incoming emails flagged as spam this morning. Here's why: X-Spam-Level: ***** X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=5.2 required=5.0 tests=FH_DATE_PAST_20XX, SUBJ_ALL_CAPS autolearn=no version=3.2.5 X-Spam-Report: * 3.4 FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The date is grossly in the future. The date of 2010 in the emails is correct. I have typed "sa-update" and restarted, to no avail. one server handled sendmail added two more servers messes things up

Hi all, I had one server running centos 4.7 i686 everything was fine with incoming mail. I now added two more servers centos 5.4 x86_64 and gave them machine names all part of the same domain as machine 1. I noticed that incoming emails are being round robined to all three machines. At this time I really just want the one original machine to handle my incoming email... The other two new machines are for other purposes. How do I tell the two new machines that all incoming email send to machine 1. Is there an easy way to do that? At this point I just turned off the two new machines and all mail is coming into the original machine just like before. Thanks, Jerry

Update via yum fails with "needs libdbus-1.so.3, this is not available."

Hi list, I am running CentOS release 5.2. When I did a "yum -y update", I got a large list of packages to be updated (360 packages). Then I got the following error: Total download size: 499 M Downloading Packages: Running rpm_check_debug ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: Package xulrunner needs libdbus-1.so.3, this is not available. .... cut about 10 similar lines .... What can I do to make the update roll through? Regards, Bart

missing module dir?

I'm teaching myself about ethernet cards, and found a TLDP page. I have CentOS 5.3. In this section: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO-2.html#ss2.4 in the 'Driver as module' subsection, regarding PCI cards, it states that there should be a directory "/lib/modules/`uname -r`/net" [mykolas@sr1220 ~]$ uname -r 2.6.18-128.1.16.el5 [mykolas@sr1220 2.6.18-128.1.16.el5]$ pwd /lib/modules/2.6.18-128.1.16.el5 [mykolas@sr1220 2.6.18-128.1.16.el5]$ ls build modules.alias modules.ieee1394map modules.ofmap modules.symbols updates extra modules.ccwmap modules.inputmap modules.pcimap modules.usbmap weak-updates kernel modules.dep modules.isapnpmap modules.seriomap source There's no 'net' directory. I am guessing that the NIC drivers are modules (and not compiled into the kernel) - am I wrong? Or, where are the modules?

trying to get lm_sensorts to work

hi all, I am trying to get lm_sensors to work. did the yum install lm_sensors service lm_sensors start sensor -s and it says no sensors found. did lsmod | grep it87 and it87 57061 0 hwmon_vid 35905 1 it87 hwmon 36553 1 it87 i2c_isa 39105 1 it87 i2c_core 56129 5 it87,i2c_isa,i2c_dev,i2c_ec,i2c_piix4 Seems like modules are loaded.... restoring using rysnc

Hi, My backup server (B) has a /backup/home and I'd like to restore /backup/home/userX to /home/userX in my server A I am trying to do with in the server where I want to restore. rsync -e ssh -avzp -R --exclude "*.journal" backup_server:/backup/home/userX/ /home/userX But it is creating a /home/userX/backup/home/userX What am I doing wrong?

DRBD error : Invalid module format

Hi, I am trying to use drbd in my centos 5.4 but I keep getting errors. When I try modprobe -v drbd I receive insmod /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5PAE/extra/drbd/drbd.ko FATAL: Error inserting drbd (/lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5PAE/extra/drbd/drbd.ko): Invalid module format. The current (running) kernel is 2.6.18-164.el5PAE kmod-drbd-8.0.16-5.el5_3 drbd-8.0.16-5.el5.centos Any tips?

[OT] CAT5 IP-capable rackmount KVM units?

Rather off-topic, but I'm looking for IP-based KVMs (~16 ports) that can handle both PS/2 and USB hookups on the server side. All of the answers over at Slashdot are a few years out of date and it looks like prices on KVM head units have dropped a bit over the years. Some of the older units only worked with Windows, Internet Explorer and ActiveX. Others like the ATEN KH1516i supposedly use Java and are far better from a cross-platform point of view. I'm on the fence about the CAT5 cables over the more traditional style, it seems like the CAT5 cable system would give a lot more flexibility in dealing with USB vs PS/2 servers (or even serial only?). The bigger advantage with the CAT5 stuff seems to be fewer length limitations and less space used in the rack for the head unit. I'm guessing that the CAT5 adapters are going to be proprietary?

Find reason for heavy load

My Centos 5 server has seen the average load jumped through the roof recently despite having no major additional clients placed on it. Previously, I was looking at an average of less than 0.6 load, I had a monitoring script that sends an email warning me if the current load stayed above 0.6 for more than 2 minutes. This script used to trigger perhaps once an hour during peak periods. Even so, I seldom see numbers higher than 1.x On 4th Dec, somebody from an Indian IP range started hammering my SMTP service, attempting to use it as an open relay. Naturally that didn't work and only end up budging my typical 400KB daily log report into 2MB~4MB affairs. After observing a few days to determine the IP range, I started blocking the Indian subnet with apf. Initially I had problems with getting apf to wok properly but after a couple of days managed to get the block working and my daily log went back down to expected size when all those connection attempts disappear from exim's log. Now this is when my server load started to shoot through the roof with figures like 8.64 5.90 3.62 being reported by my monitoring script, triggering so often. I had to raise my threshold to 1.6 to keep my own script from spamming myself. I've tried changing several things on the server, since initially it seems like the high load may be due to I/O wait. So I turning off non-essential services like OpenNMS to see if that had any effect. I also turned off apf and inserted rules manually into iptables to reduce the number of iptable rules the system has to process. All that doesn't seem to help much, I'm still getting consistent server loads in the 2.x to 3.x range almost all the time. The problem is using top, none of my processes are showing abnormal CPU%, most are well under 5%, manually adding them up doesn't equate the 200% to 300% the load figures of 2.x and 3.x are indicating. Even top's own summary says CPU % is in the 20~30% range, what's worrying is the System% is also in the same range. I have no idea what is "system" doing since it appears that anything running inside the kernel is lumped under "system". Or why even totalling both % up, I would expect 50~60% to translate to the expected load of 0.5~0.6 yet system load stats is 5x what's expected. I've installed utilities like dstat to try to see if I can figure out which process is making the system calls that is clogging up the server but either I don't understand it or it's not the right tool. So I'll appreciate some advice on how/what should I do next to identify the cause. Thanks in advance!

Aide questions

I've got aide aide-0.13.1-4.el5 running on a server, and aide aide-0.13.1-2.0.4.el5 running on a similar server. There appears to have been a change in the way base directories are being monitored in the two versions. Both servers are running logical volumes, but it seems to not matter as I'm running aide on a server without logical volumes and the problem still shows up. Now the problem.... On the server with the newer aide, it reports MTime and CTime changes in some of the base directories such as: Directory: /root Mtime : 2009-12-18 09:14:02 , 2009-12-24 12:20:53 Ctime : 2009-12-18 09:14:02 , 2009-12-24 12:20:53 Directory: /usr/bin Mtime : 2009-12-18 00:04:20 , 2009-12-31 00:05:08 Ctime : 2009-12-18 00:04:20 , 2009-12-31 00:05:08 The older version of aide doesn't do this. Both aide.conf files are identical. I've tried entries in the conf file like the following to avoid this, but it seems I shouldn't have to do this: /usr/bin$ DIR where I've redefined DIR to not include "m" and "c". I still get reports of files below /usr/bin, but this avoids the changes to the directory itself everyday. Does anyone have a clue how to avoid this any other way, and maybe if aide is doing this differently now (and why)? It's not a big deal, but I'm kinda believing I'm not doing it the right way.
