Antivirus for CentOS? (yuck!)

Hi All, Yes, I know, it's really really embarrassing to have to ask but I'm being pushed to the wall with PCI DSS Compliance procedure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_DSS) and have to either justify why we don't need to install an anti-virus or find an anti-virus to run on our CentOS 5 servers. Whatever I do - it needs to be convincing enough to make the PCI compliance guy tick the box. So: 1. Has anyone here gone though such a procedure and got good arguments against the need for anti-virus? 2. Alternatively - what linux anti-virus (oh, the shame of typing this word combination :() do you use which doesn't affect our systems performance too much. The reviewed servers run both Internet-facing web applications and internal systems, mostly using proprietary protocol for internal communications. They are being administrated remotely via IPSec VPN (and possibly in the future also OpenVPN). Thanks, --Amos

repository for mod_security

I want to add mod_security to my Apache server running CentOS 5.3 and am trying to find a repository to get it from. I found it in EPEL, but they have version 2.1.7, which is over a year old according to what I found on the modsecurity.org website. Is there a repository which is keeping this up to date? Or should I just build it from source? -- Bowie

Problems eith yum (wrong releasever)

After installing clean Centos 5.3 and updating with "yum update" yum starts to fail. I get the following error message YumRepo Error: All mirror URLs are not using ftp, http[s] or file. Eg. 7 is not a valid release or hasnt been released yet/ removing mirrorlist with no valid mirrors: //var/cache/yum/base/mirrorlist.txt It looks like the $releasever variable has value 7. Why does this happen and how do I fix this? Thanks, Sami

Get only script name with shell script

Hi all, I wrote shell script and put it under the /usr/local/bin/ directory. I use echo $0 for get script name but it has printed "/usr/local/bin/<scriptname>" but i want to only print <scriptname> How can i do this ? Thanks all for help. -- Iyi calismalar.Basarilar... Thx, kfx Hi, We are experiencing the same issue, however using Apache and Tomcat via Proxy AJP to server a Shibboleth IdP on CentOS 5.3 - stock RPMs. httpd-2.2.3-22.el5.centos tomcat5-5.5.23-0jpp.7.el5_2.1 Since upgrading to 5.3 we have noticed that overnight all 4GB of physical RAM and all 4GB of swap is eaten and the web service unresponsive. We can still SSH into the machine and restart Apache. This rectifies the issue. These are production boxes and subject to numerous connections, we are trying to isolate the trigger. However, the exact same configuration and applications being served under 5.2 exhibit no issue. I suspect it may be related to this bug, logged with the upstream: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=497077 Cheers, J.

CentOS 4.7 glibc update: not announced?

Quick Q: while running my A.M. update today, I see several updates that I haven't seen announced yet. The one concerning me is glibc. I killed the update since it glibc is so central to a system. Is it safe to install? If so, I presume I'll want to update it first and then the rest of the system? TIA for any information. -- Bill

Anyone had sucess on made netdisco running? > Hi List, Well nothing better than post an email to the list to find the solution: The install script I was using (following) from the site above, put two include lines (from netdisco_apache.conf and netdisco_apache_dir.conf) on the end of "/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf". But it generates some errors on the httpd programa, and I moved them to links on "/etc/httpd/conf.d" to the netdisco config files. The problem was "netdisco*" was load before "perl*" and then the errors. Quick solution: rename "netdisco*" to "zz_netdisco*", now the load order are OK and the WebCli are running. Grub configuration from within Windows

My friend uses a typical dual-boot setup (Windows XP and Centos 5.3). The machine is online 24/7 and he often uses it from a remote location (Linux via ssh -X, Windows via rdesktop). The problem is that he wants to be able to remotely configure which of these two OSes is to be the default on next reboot, so he can switch from one OS to the other and back remotely. If Linux is up, he just needs to reconfigure grub.conf, but if Windows is up (and default) he has no way of accessing grub.conf. Now, he has several partitions on the drive, some ntfs, some vfat and some ext3. Is there a clean way of putting grub.conf on a vfat partition? Is there a way for Windows to have rw access to ext3 filesystem (namely, /)? Is there some other way of handling this without physical access to the machine while it boots? I have suggested virtualization of Windows, so he could run them both concurrently without pain, but for certain (computational performance) reasons that is not a good option for him --- he wants hard reboots between OSes. Any suggestions? Thanks! :-) Marko
