Error on man page

Hi I discovered a similar problem early this week and a colleage on irc was told it was a copy and paste error. in man syslogd, the following can be found: Sucker rod def. -- 3/4, 7/8 or 1in. hardened steel rod, male threaded on each end. Primary use in the oil industry in Western North Dakota and other locations to pump 'suck' oil from oil wells. Sec- ondary uses are for the construction of cattle feed lots and for dealing with the occasional recalcitrant or belligerent individual. App Question.

Hi list!! Got a question, and I can't find a good answer for, so I figured i'd post here. I'm working on a project that involves a number of smaller apps to be developed, and run. In order to build this overall application, I'm trying to find a web based app that I can use to manage the entire process. I need to be able to create the basic app, and then to test the app, and then to run the app in a production environment. I need to be able to schedule when the app is tested/run in the production system, as well as be able to track the status of the test/production app. My overall system will have 100's of these smaller child apps. Has anyone heard of, or have any pointers to any kind of webbased app that I can use (open source) to manage this entire kind of process. I would prefer a web based app, that runs on a LAMP platform to manage this overall process.... Thanks

New CentOS 4 Kernels cannot be seen by yum

I don't know if those are new kernels in - http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/updates/i386/RPMS/?C=M;O=D but as yum cannot "see" them is it because the headers are not updated? - http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/updates/i386/headers/?C=M;O=D Spike

Extract text from Microsoft PowerPoint files

Hello CentOS people, I'm wondering if there are command tools like antiword and docx2txt for Microsoft PowerPoint files (.ppt and .pptx). The idea is to extract text from PowerPoint files. Sorry this isn't exactly about CentOS, but I'd really like it if Yum has something. I tried xlhtml, but it hasn't been updated in a while and isn't exactly wanting to work on CentOS 5. Thank you,

Sendmail rbl - Need to bypass rbl for one local address

Hi, Hope any one can help me. I am running centos 5.2 with sendmail and rbl feature. I need to recieve all emails come to my sales account regardless of rbl . I looked on web and gave up. All I found was if I added To:sales@ ok in my sendmail.mc , sales account will bypass rbl and get all the emails but its not working. Any help ?

yum priorities question

Hello, I have a question about working principles of yum. Here are the details: Installed package: GeoIP.i386 1.4.4-1.el5.centos Repo: CentOS Extras Priority for CentOS Extras repo: 1 "yum update" wants to replace the above package with the following: Package: geoip.i386 1.4.5-1.el5.rf Repo: rpmforge Priority for rpmforge: 15 And yes, the following is already in the priorities.conf [main] enabled=1 Why does yum try to replace the package from a repo with higher priority? Isn't "yum priorities" supposed to keep it? Regards, Mufit

creating a user from an RPM package

What wizardry do you guys use in the SPEC file when creating/deleting a user from an RPM package? I was going to create a macro like: %define user(login,uid,gid,name,homedir,shell) \ echo "$1:x:$2:$3:$4:$5:$6" >>/etc/passwd; \ echo "$1:!!:12005:0:99999:7:::" >>/etc/shadow; \ echo "$1:x:$3:" >>/etc/group; \ mkdir -p $5; \ chown $2:$3 $5 and then appropriate sedness and rm's when removing it, but I figure there has to be a cleaner way, or a builtin as this surely is a common feature. The RPM guide doesn't seem to mention it, or if it does, I missed it. Alternatively, if you could point me to a package or a spec file that does this, I'd be much obliged. USB external HDD error messages

Hi - relatively inexperienced user here. I installed CentOS 5.2 yesterday (http install via a mirror, worked brilliantly), as well as a new Seagate 1Tb USB external HDD (from the new Xtreme line), for backup/media storage. Using fdisk I put two primary partitions on the Seagate, /dev/sde1 and /dev/sde2 (roughly half the drive each). Then I used mkfs.ext3 on both to create ext3 filesystems on those partitions. My fstab entries look like so: /dev/sde1 /mnt/seagate1 ext3 rw,user,noexec 0 0 /dev/sde2 /mnt/seagate2 ext3 rw,user,noexec 0 0 I copied some data onto /dev/sde1 and went to bed. Centos 5x ipv6 sendmail smtps

Hi all, I'm working my way through v6ing our network. I have a mail server with the default dovecot/sendmail configuration working happily for pop3, pop3s, imap, imaps, smtp, and smtps on v4. I have managed to get all but smtps working on v6. Yum and case-sensitivity

Hi List, On one of our servers (CentOS 4 32 bit), we have the dag repo enabled. Yesterday morning during a yum update, yum replaced the CentOS package "perl-DBD-MySQL" with one from dag, "perl-DBD-mysql". For whatever reason, the two packages differ, in that only one of them (the CentOS built one) includes: /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Mysql.pm /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Mysql/ Statement.pm I've excluded the dag version in our yum.conf so it won't re-apply it and break perl code that has "use Mysql;", but I'm confused as to why yum saw fit to replace the package, and, why it did so yesterday. (This box has not had any packages added or removed, outside the standard 'yum update', for many months; and the only repo other than CentOS-managed ones it he dag one.) Bug? Expected behavior?
