Weird problem in PHP 5.1.6/possible bug

I hit a weird problem with the default PHP 5.1.6 on CentoS 5.2. It seems the default 5.1.6 PHP on CentOS has a bug in the functions escapeshellargs/escapeshellcmd: it "gulps" any special (non-ASCII) characters, so that they are missing from the output. I have been assured that this does not happen on other 5.1.6 or newer on other Linux distributions. I don't see this behavior with the exact same $LANG setting (en_US.UTF8) on CentOS 4. Moreover the behavior is different when running the script via console or webserver. If I run on console with my $LANG setting of en_US.UTF8 I get correct output if the input is UTF-8 (which is still incorrect, if the encoding doesn't match it should output garbage and not "nothing"). Via webserver I still get no output with the same characters and encoding of the page set to UTF-8. Could others check on what they have available (other PHP, other distributions) and tell the results? a test page: <? $test = "äöüÄÖÜß"; print $test; print "<br>\n"; print escapeshellarg($test); print "<br>\n"; $test = "Ã¤Ã¶Ã¼ÃÃÃÃ"; print $test; print "<br>\n"; print escapeshellarg($test); ?> It will output German umlauts in ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8. Depending on your $LANG setting and the coding set to the webpage you may either get some correct characters or garbage between ''. The main point is that the respective output for lines 1 and 2 and for lines 3 and 4 should be *identical* with the exception of the outer single quotes. The function is supposed to escape single quotes and do nothing else with the input (e.g. output "as is"). If the output is only '', then there is a bug. tg3 ethernet card drops connection under heavy load

We have an HP DL360 server with dual on-board Tigon3 ethernet cards. We are using eth0, eth1 is unused at the moment. Sometimes when the network interface is under heavy load, for example moving large file transfers over rsync or NFS, the network interface stops working and we lose all connection to the server. The only solution at this point is to jump on the console and restart the network interface. I have not found anything in the log files to indicate what is causing this. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Or perhaps you know how I could troubleshoot this?

Squid Number of hits

Samba Hosts Allow/Deny

I am running CentOS 5.2 w/ Samba 3.0.28 and have a basic user level setup and am trying to use hosts allow and deny but it does not have an effect? I have specified them in the share level of the config. I have tried: hosts allow = 192.168.0.72/32 hosts deny = 0.0.0.0/0 Also: ; hosts allow = 192.168.0.72/32 hosts deny = 0.0.0.0/0 except 192.168.0.72/32 Still, any hosts can gain access? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, jlc

Squid proxy High Availability

Hi all, I am running squid integrated with squidguard.dansguardian,clamav running on single standalone centos 5 server.Also running webmin for managing squid.This Squid is serving for 4000 clients. Since it is serving more users i don't want to take risk by running single server,if there is any single point of failure will cause all of my users to standstill. So i am planned to go for one more Centos5 server with cluster.Can any one suggest me how to design it either i have to go for common storage for storing all global files or i need to synchronize both the server periodically by running instance on local disk of both the servers. Below is the scenario currently running on the server squid is under /etc and squidguard database under /var/lib and dansguardian config file under /etc/dansguardian and webmin is under /usr/local Help me in designing the setup of high availability squid Regards, lingu

Hello all, My /etc/group is not quite in order (a long story), and now I need to correct privileges right here and there. yum: not updating kernel

Hi. I recently switched my CentOS kernel to 2.6.27, manually. Is there a way to take it "off the list" of possible yum updates? I want to handle kernel stuff myself. Thanks much.

yum search priority protections

Hi, I am running CentOS 5.2. My yum search used working, but it did not work for any search now due to following problems. Pleae advise what was wrong with it. $ yum search *gtk* Loading "priorities" plugin 0 packages excluded due to repository priority protections No Matches found Thank you.
