Some best practices when sending to Yahoo! Mail

There were a ton of replies to the DKIM thread so I thought I'd chip in with what Yahoo have stated on their website, Q What are some best practices when sending to Yahoo! Mail? A http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/postmaster-15.html Apologies if this has been mentioned before in the 300 or so replies to that topic but problems sending mail to Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail are best served, by looking at the FAQ's for those service providers. Installing perl modules using yum?

I'm trying to install swatch using rpmbuild. I'm getting dependency errors saying that I need perl(Date::Calc), perl(Date::Format), and perl(File::Tail). I've been beaten over the head in this group for using CPAN. So methodology do I use to I install those modules? === Al

Update troubles for wxGTK apps

Hi, I have a CentOS 5.2 desktop with the RPMForge repo enabled. I just ran 'yum update', and there seems to be some trouble with the wxGTK apps. Simply exclude vlc, amule, audacity and wxGTK from updates in /etc/yum.conf and wait until the problem is resolved? Cheers, Niki Kovacs

Shell script to list group members

I have several shell scripts to manage user accounts on a server. I've been using a file with the usernames of peoples accounts that any script needs to process. I had a thought that I can and should be setting up groups and adding user accounts to those groups so I don't have to maintain a set of files with the user accounts. So essentially, I am looking for a (simple) shell command to run from a bash script that will allow me to list user accounts that belong to a particular group. Any help is appreciated.

NFS issues

So I'm running nfs to get content to my web servers. Now I've had this problem 2 times (about 2 weeks since the last occurrence). I use drbd on the nfs server for redundancy. Now to my problem: All my web sites stopped responding so I started by checking dmesg and there I found a bunch of this errors || Aug 11 16:00:39 web03 kernel: lockd: server 192.168.20.22 not responding, timed out Aug 11 16:02:39 web03 kernel: lockd: server 192.168.20.22 not responding, timed out But when checking the nfs server lockd was running and I could access all the files from the webserver with ls, cd etc. The logs on the nfs server doesn't say anything of interest and checking apaches error_log just says "not found or unable to stat". Now I mentioned this have happened 2 times and both these times I've "solved" it by rebooting the nfs server and web servers. This isn't a good solution to have to reboot my servers every couple of weeks so I really could use some help. :) Also I get this from time to time on the web servers, dunno if it's related. /do_vfs_lock: VFS is out of sync with lock manager! /

Getting perl CGI programs to work on CentOS 5 server

I'm trying to get perl CGI programs to work from the cgi-bin (actually a sub-directory cgi-bin/various) and have set appropriate permissions using chmod 755. I'm currently testing using the simplest cgi program, you know the one: #!/usr/bin/perl # howdy--the easiest of CGI programs use CGI; print <<END_of_Multiline_Text; Content-type: text/html <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Hello World</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <H1>Greetings, Terrans!</H1> </BODY> </HTML> END_of_Multiline_Text This has worked absolutely fine in the past, but now when I invoke it, either nothing appears in the browser (Mozilla Firefox) or I get "Internal Server Error" - any ideas please? i add the "irqpoll" option to kernel line. after the system booted i log into X with tty1 also login as root with the command " tail -f /var/log/messages" for monitoring . After 10 to 20 minutes i got the same message again but this time immediately the system froze up ! i tried it 5 times now and each time is the same result.i also noticed that the system was behaving very slowly till the message came up like usually folder copy operation - i usually get 70-90MB/s according to vmstat 1 comand, but with irqpoll the maximum i noticed was like 10MB/s. Am i doing something wrong ?

changing installed kernel from i386 to i686

Hi all, If I initially installed a i386 kernel on centos 4.6 is it possible to migrate to i686 with yum (yes the box cpu is capable)? Can I just "yum install kernel2.6.9-78.EL.i686" and that will work? Will that magically bring in other needed libraries? Thanks, Jerry

new 4.7 i586 kernel not happy

my poor little toshiba libretto (p-120) won't boot with the new 4.7 i586 kernel. i've reverted back to the previous kernel for now. anyone else using the new i586 kernel successfully on old hardware?

Centos installed on OQO mod 2

Since I have a four of these units, and the XP recovery CD, I figured, "ah give it a go." And going through the Centos wiki, I found a simple piece I was missing: "linux text askmethod". There were a few problems I had with the text install: Disk Druid does not work with LVM partitions, much, in text mode. I was able to increase the size of the swap partition though... I missed the setup for a user other than root. I will have to do that separately. System came up in init 3 mode. Easy to fix. Video is 800x480. This is a problem for a number of dialog boxes. I tried to change the video, but nothing happened when I logged out and back in. still 800x480 (I selected Generic LCD for hardware then 1034 x 768). I read in one set of notes that using xvesa is better than vesa (which is what is being used now). How do I set that? Oh, /proc/cpuinfo reports 769 bogomips. Wait, this boot it is 830 bogomips? hmmm.
