small window manager

What is an alternative X window manager, supported by CentOS, that has very small memory footprint? I want to avoid twm, because it defaults to interactive placement when not giving geometry options. NFS static ports configuration

A couple of RHEL5 books I'm reading at the moment suggest port numbers above 1024 for statd, lockd, mountd and rquotad (eg 38001-38006 or 32764-32767) when configuring NFS to work with a firewall. The default /etc/sysconfig/nfs on CentOS5 however has defaults under 1024, such as mountd 892 statd 662 rquotad 875 Is there something security-related going on here that I'm not aware of, or some other explanation? Neither text mentions the use of ports under 1024 at all. Thanks Mick

Unable to compile mod_jk on Centos 5.2 64-bit

Hi Friends, I am trying to compile mod_jk on Centos 5.2 64-bit but I am getting apxs not found. Help using ed [OT]

Hi Perhaps omeone might answer this tricky problem. I can do this other ways, but i really want to understand how to solve it using ed. I have one solution using g/re/s/re//txt/ , but I want to understand how or if i can solve it using the ed (.)a command. A script i have parse several files and append text after a specific text is matched. If one file do not have this text, i get a no match and the script terminates. How can I avoid this behavior keeping the original coding style for ed and append text. I have tried tried but still cannot get it correct using (.)a. Is it even possible to do it that way using the (.)a command? Thanks in advance Thomas code example that give a "no match". At my physics lab we have 30 servers with 1TB disk packs. I am in need of monitoring for disk failures. I have been reading about SMART and it seems it can help. However, I am not sure what to look for if a drive is about to fail. Any thoughts about this? Is anyone using this method to predetermine disk failures? TIA

Iptables masq traffic limiting

Where is the correct place to control what traffic is masq'ed out? This is what I have, but I was told the Forward chain isn't the right place to do this? iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -o $WAN -j MASQUERADE iptables -A FORWARD -i $WAN -o $LAN -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i $LAN -o $WAN -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED,RELATED -p tcp -m multiport --dports 80,443 -j ACCEPT So which table is the theoretically correct place to add all the ports/services I would want masq'ed out for internal clients? strange httpd error page using apache

I get this error page re-direct while opening a local webpage on my server, which carries me to yahoo for the error page filled with adverts. I'd really like to know how this one got here, as I just installed centOS a few weeks ago. http://wwwwh.found-not-help.com/search?qo=www.wayward4now.net&rn=3D9F6PY8wd… This just doesn't strike me as Kosher. And, I'm a southern baptist! <grins> Ric

I note that there are two 'rc.local' files. One is in /etc and the other in /etc/rc.d Which has precedence and is the one to use? Thanks, Ric
