Will CentOS 6's upstream be based on Fedora 10?

Hi All, The subject says it all. I'm asking because I've found Fedora 9 to be buggy as hell - it is one of the worst Fedora releases I've ever used (and I've been using it since Fedora Core 1). I'm putting up with it for my work laptop, but it's not fun. :( My main home machine is still on Fedora Core 6 and will stay there until CentOS 6 comes out. I don't want to use CentOS 5 because it's upstream is based on Fedora Core 6, and I want something new! When CentOS 6 hits, I will be using it for my work laptop. I might just keep Fedora for home my machine. I haven't decided yet if I want to move up to Fedora 10 or CentOS 6. Wiki updates needed for rpmrepo.org when it's up & running

When rpmrepo.org is up and running properly, there are 2 or 3 Wiki pages that need to be updated. I wiped the HD on my daughter's box and am trying to install multimedia on it again. usb to usb comm ports - possible? how?

I have an i686 mono core system configured as a CentOS-5.2 server. It has one DB9P RS-232 serial connector and six USB connectors. The DB9p is configuered as STTY0 for the attached MultiTec MT5638ZBA fax modem. I would very much like to connect my MS WindowsXPpro laptop, which only has USB connectors, to this server via telnet or ssh over a direct connection. Is there a way to connect / configure a comm port to a raw USB port in windows / centos and to use a direct cable connection between the two? Or, is a usb to serial converter device required at both ends? I expect to use either puTTY or hyperterm as the windows client. What I need to know is: Is this is even possible? How do you configure the tty ports on CentOS for this to work? How do you configure the comm port on MS-WinXPpro? What cable does one require? I have never had this problem before since all our hosts have previously come equipped with two serial ports. However, the next generation machines apparently have no RS-232 serial ports at all, just six usb ports. So, this problem might as well be faced now as later, when it is unavoidable. Missing dependencies

Hi! I have a new shiny CentOS 5.2 server freshly installed. I wanted to install VMWare Server but the installer wants to compile a module. I thought, no problem: Let's install compiler and libraries. So i did: yum groupinstall "Development Libraries" "Development Tools" But i end up with: ================== --> Processing Dependency: libsqlite3.so.0 for package: rpm-devel --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: libidn = 0.4.6-1.2.el5.rf is needed by package libidn-devel Error: Missing Dependency: libsqlite3.so.0 is needed by package rpm-devel Error: Missing Dependency: libidn.so.11 is needed by package curl Error: Missing Dependency: libsqlite.so.0()(64bit) is needed by package sqlite-devel Error: Missing Dependency: sqlite = 2.8.17-1.el5.rf is needed by package sqlite-devel Error: Missing Dependency: libsqlite3.so.0 is needed by package rpm-libs What's really missing and why it doesn't seem to be in the repo? slow NFS speed

We upgraded from a 10/100Mbs to a 2 100/1000 bonding. We notice the speeds of NFS to be around 70-80Mb/sec. Which is slow, especially with bonding. I was wondering if we need to tune anything special with the Network and NFS. Does anyone have any experience with this? TIA

Most likely, your problem is this line in /etc/named.conf: query-source address * port 53; Remove that and retest. However, be forewarned that it could cause problems with restarting named.. in which case, do not delete the line, just comment it, then uncomment if you get into trouble and reconsult the archives. That problem was resolved late week before last or early last week too. If you want some better advice, post your errors. Cheers, Glenn

Updated bind marked as vulnerable

Hi, I have a Centos 4.6 machine that even tough has been updated with the latest bind 9.2.4-28.0.1.el4 is marked as vulnerable by https://www.dns-oarc.net/oarc/services/dnsentropy. I have another machine which also uses that same distro and is not. Do I have to do any other update?

Windows XP fixmbr from Centos?

I am still dead on my corporate system, and the XP boot CD I brought won't boot. And so far I have not found anyone here at the IETF meeting that happens to have one in their bag of tricks... So I found instructions on doing this in Ubuntu: http://www.arsgeek.com/2008/01/15/how-to-fix-your-windows-mbr-with-an-ubunt… I have my Centos install CD 1 of 6 that gets me into rescue. Is it able to fix my mbr? Problem I have with the above instructions (of course I have not tried them as I would have to burn the Ubuntu live CD), is I cannot write anything to the harddrive to store a program to fix the drive (at least that is my reading of the instructions). I suppose I can put a USB drive on the system to hold any temp thing?

Rapid deployment of CentOS on HP Proliant machines

Has anyone successfully deployed CentOS on HP Proliant servers using the Altiris Rapid Deployment (RDP) framework? This works out of the box with RHEL 5.1 but I have not been able to get this to work with CentOS 5.1. If anyone knows of an article on all the details to be able to deploy CentOS to a bare machine Proliant Server, I would appreciate a pointer. I did make the changes to the adlagent installation to add the "--install-as=redhat --toolbox==redhad" and that allowed me to get much further along in the process. My end result is that instead of booting to CentOS after the RDP job is done I get a notice that "Admin" is not a valid boot option. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Fred

alsa-oss for sip.communicator.org

I downloaded the FC rpm for sip.communicator.org: http://www.sip-communicator.org/index.php/Main/Download yum localinstall of this rpm came up needing alsa-oss as a dependency. I have really tried to find this, looking at over rpmforge, kbsingh, and atrpms. So can anyone point me to this dependency?
