Firefox 3 for CentOS 4

Hi, I'm trying to make Firefox 3 work in CentOS 4. So far I was able to do it by installing the evolution28-* rpms, which have a more recent GTK, Cairo, Pango, etc. With those libs installed and configured, Firefox 3 from mozilla.org works fine. The only thing is that it doesn't use the "Bluecurve" theme as the other applications do. I was seeing that the evolution28-* packages use themes under /usr/evolution28/share/themes instead of the default /usr/share/themes. I can copy the bluecurve theme there, but the libbluecurve.so that actually themes the widgets is missing. I tried to make it work with one from CentOS 5, but with no luck. So I'm wondering. Has anyone made those evolution28-* libs work with themes other than the ones included? Or, going through another easier route: has anyone made Firefox 3 work well on CentOS 4? How? I know Firefox 3 is supposed to be released on RHEL 4.7 so, is there already any SRPM from RedHat I could use? Thanks! Filipe

Problem with Bonding Driver

Hi, I've using linux bonding in active-backup mode to combine two pairs of GigE NICs (eth0/eth1, eth2/eth3) into two logical bonds (bond0/bond1). All is working fine. However, I would like to specify a primary interface for each bond. This means I need to specify different options to the bonding module for each bond. I have tried every conceivable incantation of options and cannot get the kernel to recognize the second set of options. Initially, my modprobe.conf looked like this: alias bond0 bonding alias bond1 bonding options bonding mode=active-backup miimon=100 max_bonds=2 What I am trying to achieve should be possible by changing modprobe.conf to this: alias bond0 bonding options bond0 -o bond0 miimon=100 mode=active-backup primary=eth0 alias bond1 bonding options bond1 -o bond1 miimon=100 mode=active-backup primary=eth2 But this results in fatal errors while bringing up the bonding interfaces. Changing to this eliminates the errors, but bond1 ignores the different options: alias bond0 bonding options bond0 -o bond0 miimon=100 mode=active-backup primary=eth0 max_bonds=1 alias bond1 bonding options bond1 -o bond1 miimon=100 mode=active-backup primary=eth2 max_bonds=1 I have tried many other combinations as well: install bond1 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install bonding -o bond1 mode=active-backup primary=eth2 Nothing works. I also came across this note in the bonding docs: "NOTE: It has been observed that some Red Hat supplied kernels are apparently unable to rename modules at load time (the "-o bond1" part). Attempts to pass that option to modprobe will produce an "Operation not permitted" error. This has been reported on some Fedora Core kernels, and has been seen on RHEL 4 as well. On kernels exhibiting this problem, it will be impossible to configure multiple bonds with differing parameters." I have seen that error as well with certain combinations of options in my modprobe.conf. Am I simply out of luck here? Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks.

Hi All, How to call the downloaded bootable /data/centos/netinstall.iso file in my guest domU file to boot for network installation? Finding a python module

My colleague's system where he made these rpms also has 2.5.1. How do I determine what rpm I need to install to get this dependency?

libc-client 2007 conflict when updating

FYI for others who might encounter this. I just did a yum update (C5.1) and after a very long download of packages I get a transaction test failure: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/lib/libc-client.so.2007 from install of libc-client2007-2007b-1.el5 conflicts with file from package libc-client-2007-3 I just realized this is coming from a conflict with a custom build I made of that package so that I could install uw-imap-devel as a prereq for building an asterisk package. It looks like I can just erase those two packages and the yum update should go through.

CentOS 5.2 VMI support

I'm using VMWare Server 2 RC1 to on top of CentOS 5.2 x86_64 running a CentOS 5.2 i386 guest. I have enabled VMI in VMware, so I guess it won't let me install if VMI wasn't available in the kernel? How do I know whether VMI is supported/enabled and what performance benefits can I expect from it? I'm still not getting full hard drive speeds (only getting about 1/3 when using hdparm -t ). Russ

Hi List, We've been seeing the following error on a CentOS 5.2 x86_64 / 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 install (from /var/log/httpd/error): *** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/httpd: double free or corruption (! prev): 0x00002ad8ebed2d80 *** [Thu Jul 10 19:12:19 2008] [notice] child pid 5261 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) [Thu Jul 10 19:12:48 2008] [notice] child pid 12180 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) ... The following packages are installed: glibc-2.5-24 httpd-2.2.3-11.el5_1.centos.3 mysql-server-5.0.45-7.el5 mysql-5.0.45-7.el5 php-gd-5.1.6-20.el5 php-mysql-5.1.6-20.el5 php-common-5.1.6-20.el5 php-pdo-5.1.6-20.el5 php-cli-5.1.6-20.el5 php-5.1.6-20.el5 php-imap-5.1.6-20.el5 If we remove the php-pdo / php-mysql packages, then the crashes stop. But, we need those packages, so that's not a solution. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? We've tried the obvious things; the only thing that's not "vanilla" here are a few settings in /etc/php.ini (having to do with max execution time and max memory). The php code that's being run does have its share of php warn/notices: PHP Notice: Undefined index: d in [snip] on line 1699 PHP Notice: Undefined index: verbose in [snip] on line 1819 PHP Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [snip] on line 1695 So I would not be surprised if it is tickling something out of the ordinary, but it should still not be causing a segfault! Any thoughts as to what's going on here, and how to fix it? I'm tempted to install php 5.2.6 from utterramblings repo, to see if that works around this. Thanks!

Multiple LVM snapshots

I have a Centos 5.2 fileserver running LVM2, ext3 and Samba. I want to periodically snapshot a filesystem and offer them as read only backups to my users. I'm looking for something similar to what's available on Netapp filers. I am successfully able to create snapshots using LVM. But are there any performance issues in having multiple snapshots of the same filesystem at the same time? Is there any other way i can offer filesystem snapshots to my users? redirecting when behind a firewall

Hi.. I know this isn't a centos/rhel/fedora issue... but i'm hopeful that someone might have an answer!!! thanks VVVVVVVVVV Got a bit of an issue here, that I can't seem to resolve. I have a test domain on a dynamic service (dyndns.org) the test domain is foo.gotdns.com, which i have pointing to my external cable/dsl address. Here's my issue, I would really like to be able to have the external user be able to see multiple websites which might be sitting on different physical machines/apache servers within my network. Behind the modem, I have a firewall which is set up to port-forward the traffic to a machine with my network. So, for my example, the machine is dog (192.168.1.52), and the "foo.gotdns.com" would point to the app on the machine, based on the vhost setup in the dog httpd.conf file. However, I would also like to have multiple external test sites/domains, each of which might point back to sites on different internal servers. The forwarding capability of the router only allows for all wan * (addresses) to be forwarded to a given internal machine. At the same time, the external/internal ports have to match. So i don't have the ability to do something like "forward foo.gotdns.com to machine1, and forward foo2.gotdns.com to machine2" which is exactly what i'm trying to accomplish!! I've been looking into using vhosts, and the redirect functionaility, but I can't seem to get it to work, using the external domain name. So. i'm trying to: -be able to access multiple test sites, on multiple servers from a browser external to my network -be able to access the same sites, from inside my network, using the local/internal namespace -be able to access the same sites, from inside my network, using the external namespace (testing purposes) I've looked high/low for how to accomplish this with no real luck. thanks ps. I've seen others who've been looking for similar solutions, so this would definitely help. ps. I'm able to do a redirect from one server to another, if I restrict to using internal addresses. Just can't get the external stuff to work..

tape drive

hi all, i want to use a compaq sdlt 320 under centos. the tape drive was already installed and after rebooting i was not able to see it(dmesg | grep tape or dmesg | grep scsi). i add the correct module (modprobe st) but i'm not able to use with mt. the st0 file is missing, can someone help to resolve this issue. thanks _____________________________________________________________________________ Envoyez avec Yahoo!
