spam filtering with centos 5.2

In the past I've used a combination of spamhaus combined RBL's and Spamassassin with Mailscanner as my spam recipe, but this stopped working very well for me well over a year ago. As many of the users of the couple small/personal mail servers I run are NOT technical people, and use POP to read their mail, 'training' spamassassin is difficult at best. Once upon a time, using the Rules Du Jour scripts from the SARES project worked pretty well, but that has been shut down, and really hasn't been functional in over a year. I've just rebuilt a friends mail server with centos 5.2 (it was running FC3 or something before) and would like to setup them up with a decent anti-spam recipe that doesn't require extensive tinkering or training. does anyone have a good recipe for this? Ideally I'd like something purely RPM based that doesn't require extensive configuration and tuning. I've never setup razor before, how well does that work if the mail users aren't in a position to feed it training data?

Dear All, I have download the centos 5.2 iso from the Centos website but the downloaded file seems to be split in 2 parts 52617147 Jun 28 23:45 CentOS-5.2-i386-bin-DVD.iso 3967983685 Jun 19 20:24 CentOS-5.2-i386-bin-DVD.iso.1 i also ran a md5sum but the md5 checksum is different i would appreciate if someone cd help me or tell me a site where i cd download CentOS 5.2 thnks n regards Sylvan -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

New yum search behavior is awful/useless

Anyone already tried yum search after the 5.2 upgrade? yum search perl-MIME-tools <skipped some stuff> perl-MIME-tools.noarch : Perl modules for parsing (and creating!) MIME entities That *used* to tell if it's installed (and from where) and from which repositories which version is available. This information is all gone now. Also gone is the description. I can get the description from info and the installed status from list, but the repo information is completely gone now it seems. In this state yum search is pretty useless. Am I missing something? man yum and yum.conf don't list any options to get a more useful behavior. Clamd not working

Earlier this month I reported a problem in that ClamTK couldn't virus-scan a file. This was cured by following the dev's instructions <quote> If you open up a terminal window and type "ls /var/clamav" (without quotes of course), I'm betting you'll see a variety of files and/or directories in there. If you're up for it, as root type rm /var/clamav/* -rf which will remove all the signatures. Don't worry, you'll get them back in the next step. As root, type freshclam -v And that will download all the necessary signatures again. </quote> At that point I thought all was well - until I had to reboot, when I found that it hung with a message (from memory) 'self-checking 1800'. Using Interactive boot I discovered that it came from clamd. I'm guessing that daily.cld main.cld and mirrors.dat are being sought somewhere other than /var/clamav. Maybe a symlink is required? If someone with a working clamd could advise me I'd be most grateful. For now I have had to chkconfig clamd off. Anne

How/when to file bugs on upstream bugzilla?

I've hit a bug since upgrading from 5.1 to 5.2 that involves the screen blanking when I shut the lid on a Dell Latitude D820 notebook. It doesn't come back on correctly when I open the lid, and instead crashes X. I've filed a bug on bugs.centos.org that describes the problem (#2910), and was requested to file a bug on bugzilla.redhat.com. I've filed bugs on Red Hat's system before, but always after reproducing the problem using genuine RHEL. In this case, I can't practically reload my notebook with RHEL 5.2, so I'm wondering how to report this bug to Red Hat. I'm afraid of it getting rejected outright since it's not RHEL, but on the other hand I could see where the collected information could be useful to them if the bug report is written well... Any advice on this? I didn't see anything on the CentOS wiki or FAQ as to how or when to use upstream's bug system. thanks! Greg

5.1 to 5.2 upgrade - perfectly smoothe

I run 3 servers and I upgraded them from 5.1 to 5.2 this week without even a single glitch. So now that I've been running CentOS for a couple months, I wanted to take a minute to say... Thank you to CentOS, everyone on the list for the occasional technical support (and thanks to the upstream vendor).

libgtk-x11-2.0.la missing on CentOS 5.2

Hi, I just upgrade to CentOS 5.2. I try to compile my gtk2 application using GNU autotools and found the following error: ... grep: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.la: No such file or directory /bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.la: No such file or directory libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.la' is not a valid libtool archive ... I check both gtk2-devel-2.10.4-20.el5 & gtk-2.10.4-20.el5, the /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.la is missing. Is this a CentOS 5.2 bug of packaging ? Or how I can ask libtool not to look for libgtk-x11-2.0.la ? Thanks a lot. Regards KC

MPEG video under Fedora 9

Could some kind soul state as briefly and clearly as possible what is required to play a .mpg video file under Fedora 9/KDE/Firefox? On my laptop I see from System Settings=>Advanced=>File Associations that I am given a choice for mpeg video files of GXine Video Player Gnome MPlayer MPlayer Movie Player Kaffeine As a sample .mpg file I've taken /usr/share/apps/k3b/extra/k3bphotosvcd.mpg . [Maybe that is a bad example; if so could some guru suggest a better one? One incidental difficulty in solving multimedia problems under Fedora is that supposed solutions rarely give a sample file on which the solution can be tested. Perhaps a selection of multimedia files for testing would be useful. Is there such a thing anywhere?] I'm not clear also if Firefox has its own, different, set of File Associations? Or will it read those set by Fedora/KDE? I understand that the Fedora developers have a religious objection to telling us how to play ungodly video files, or even telling us where we can get this information. But it would be nice if a standard godless informant could be agreed on ...

Kernel - pata_via

Why standard Centos 5.2 kernel does not have a module "pata_via." I have an old motherboard and IDE drive. The standard kernel does not work. Kernel include a module "pata_via" only in centosplus. It is a bug?
