SSH Key length

What are the ramifications to a large key length when using pub/priv keys for ssh authentication. I have some remote admin and file transfers to manage and only have ssh access w/o vpn to use for it. Thanks, jlc

I see that currently CENTOS is using 4.3p2 which does not support the new Match command in the sshd_config. I'm not sure, but I think that was added with 4.4. I was wondering how long it would be before we get to use this feature?

vfs objects = recycle

[public] vfs objects = recycle recycle:repository = Recycle Bin -------------------------------------- Just want to be clear if I use the vfs recycle option does "recycle:repository = Recycle Bin" get put into the the public directory? As I am having a problem with deleting files on a client and then can't empty the trash because of permission problems. Will this solve this issue or do I have problems elsewhere? Keep in mind this is a mixed node network with windows and linux. I'm taking pointers from any one with heavy samba experiance. As I am no samba guy. Slightly OT: Extra icons on desktop

I'm running FC8 with Gnome 2.20.0 at work and I have this interesting situation. I have two disks on the system that are both configured to be mounted in /etc/fstab, but I'm seeing two things I believe are strange. One is that the second drive is not getting mounted at boot time. The other is that I see two icons for the disk on my desktop - one with the mount point of the drive, the other with the labvel, and they both refer to the same drive (but, e.g., if I use one icon to umount the drive, the other icon does not go away - this is secondary). Suggestions welcome. Here is my /etc/fstab: LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1 LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2 tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs defaults 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/sda2 swap swap defaults 0 0 LABEL=/misc /misc ext3 defaults 1 2 The drive that is misbehaving is /misc. Anne: This is something that worked fine, for several years. It was my box, before my daughter got it, and I used the DVD drive, without problems. That it works OK in MS Windows XP and that I can boot the box from the same DVD, without problems, has me leaning more toward a problem with CentOS 5 Mounting the DVD, in that box. If it is a HW problem, I would think the problem would also appear in Windows and when I boot from that DVD. However, that it works OK, in 2 other Desktops, would possibly indicate a HW problem in that box. TIA, Lanny

Hi People, I have downloaded http://dev.centos.org/~tru/kernel-vm/5/RPMS/i386/kernel-vm-2.6.18-53.1.14.e… <http://dev.centos.org/%7Etru/kernel-vm/5/RPMS/i386/kernel-vm-2.6.18-53.1.14…> but was just wondering if these kernel-vm rpms are in a yum repository. Previous posts to centos.org suggest this, so can someone please let me know what repo it should be coming from so I can see why my system doesn't see them. Thanks.

NFS mount problems

This morning my laptop could not connect to the server by its fstab mounts. I restarted nfs and restarted the network on the server, all without making any difference. Restarting the network brought Bringing up interface borg2: RTNETLINK answers: File exists Error adding address 192.168.0.40 for eth0. but ifconfig shows the correct address for eth0. What else should I look for? Anne

Hi, I activate samba on Centos 5, but I always get NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE when issuing smbclient //GIServer/GIApp -usmbuser after I enter the password to the prompt. DKMS

Alan, I knew of the Dell article, as I have all of those saved for reference. [1] I was just wondering if you knew of any that were for someone knew to Linux. You know the Microsoft type tutorials that have screenshot with them. That's the question I get asked a lot of times from around my home area. In turn when these users that are new to Linux they get discouraged when they can't visualy see pictures or have to edit some text file. They just use to doing things the M$ Way. CentOS could have a much broader user base (Huge), the biggest user base around if simple things like this could be done. i realize though it take volunteers to do this on the wiki. [1] DKMS was originally meant for updating Dells server hardware (drivers) see: http://linux.dell.com/dkms/dkms-ols2004.pdf and Sys Admins, but has come further than that. Install DKMS.
