Centos 5.1 - Xen/ domU related booting questions

Hello, I successfuly run Centos 5.1 domU in Centos 5.1 dom0. But I still have some minor issues/errors/warnings while booting I'd like to fix and here are my questions: 1. How to disable loading usb host controler module: [...from dmesg... ] Loading uhci-hcd.ko module USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver v3.0 insmod: error inserting '/lib/uhci-hcd.ko': -1 No such device Loading ohci-hcd.ko module insmod: error inserting '/lib/ohci-hcd.ko': -1 No such device Loading ehci-hcd.ko module mount: could not find filesystem '/proc/bus/usb' [...] I have extra parameters being passed to kernel in grub: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.1.14.el5xen ro root=LABEL=/ console=xvc0 nousb nopcmcia parport=0 but it seems kernel ignores it in domU (works in dom0) 2. reinstall perl packages in Centos5

Problem with CentOS server: am I running a firewall?

I recently tried to swap server from an ancient Asus PIII machine running Fedora-8 to a Dell PowerEdge T105 running Centos-5.1 . Unfortunately, I have not been able to set it up to allow local machines to access the internet. I can access the internet directly from the server (which connects to an ADSL modem) but not from a laptop connected to the server through an ethernet hub or WiFi router. I can ssh into the server from the laptop, but cannot ping anything beyond the server. It is as though there were a firewall running on the server which will not allow packets on the LAN to pass to the internet. This is probably a very ignorant question, but is there such a default firewall running under CentOS? I've gone back to my old server temporarily, but would prefer to sort out the new one if I could. Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.

Upgrading MySQL from 4.1 to 5

Hello All, I am trying to upgrade MySQL on CentOS 4.5 but having a hard time. I need to go from MySQL 4.1 to 5. How to create static routes on startup with CentOS4?

Hi, I'm working with the iproute2/iptables toolset on my CentOS4 server to create custom routing rules. However, I'm a bit at a loss how to create these permanently so that they are automatically reloaded upon reboot of the server. I know that iptables has a config file in /etc/sysconfig/iptables that is loaded by /etc/init.d/iptables startup script. Is there anything that works similarly for the iproute2 ruleset? I can't seem to find anything in /etc/init.d/network except for references to static routes using /sbin/route, which isn't good enough if one wants to use multiple routing tables. Nor can I find anything in /etc/init.d/ that would seem applicable to the iproute2 system. Any ideas/suggestions? Do I have to create my own custom startup script for this? Or is there somewhere already existant I can put iproute2 commands? Thanks! Eric

generating tls certificates for radius under centos

Hi all, i need to generate certificate files for radius tls. I am using CentOS 5.1 and scripts in /etc/pki/tls/misc for generated own CA key, and for own keys signed with my CA. For Radius i need a server certificate with xpextensions support. How can i generate server certificate with xpextensions which will be signed with my own CA on CentOS5.1? Thanks in advance! David

nis and new users

Every time a "new" user logs into a development box (which does not use nfs for the home dirs) the get could not chdir to their home dir. They call me with the error and I do a: cp -a /etc/skel/ ~USER && chown USER.users -R ~USER/ and it is fixed.
