Command to get tape capacity status?

I have an Overland tape library connected, via SCSI card, to an out-of-box, full install of C5 install on an old PC. I have a script that uses tar to archive data to tape and mtx to change tapes. What I don't know, if possible, is to obtain the status of how much tape is left in the drive. If I get a write failure, I'd like to know if the tape is bad or has run out of space. I know of bacula, amanda, and other backup methods, but I prefer to use the simplest options possible, mainly because if a hard drive failure occurs, which has happened at the last minute, I can take the original C5 media from CD, install it, and get back up and running in no time. So, any way to inquire remaining tape status and [estimated] capacity? Thanks. Scott

Strange reboots

Hi, I have a CentOS 5.0 running as a web server. # uname -a Linux hostnamehidden.net 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 #1 SMP Wed Mar 5 11:37:38 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Every 59 minutes (maybe every hour) it reboots without any logs, without any traces and unfortunately with breaking software raid. After reboot dmesg does not have any strange entries. I double-checked crons, any strange services, nothing suspicious. I did "yum update" recently. I went to Datacenter and waited before the monitor but during reboot I did not see anything strange. I guess reboot is cold reboot. I changed all system and cpu fans. Upgraded system powersupply with a more powerful one. Placed server infront of air-conditioner. Do you have any idea? Thanks.

gallery2 under CentOS-5.1

Is there a CentOS RPM for gallery2? I'm thinking of installing gallery2 through the preinstaller if I can't find an RPM. Is this the best way to go? Is anyone happily running gallery2 under CentOS? Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.

Updating Dovecot package?

Does anyone know if upstream ever plans on updating the dovecot package to a non RC version or to even one of the RC versions that isn't so insecure, And by insecure, I of course refer to the recent rash of bugs which have been found. Thanks, -Drew

Adding Ethernet alias (why 3 hard links for an ifcfg-eth file?)

I need to add eth0:1 with a new IP address to my C5-based router. Does a design document exist for the ifcfg family of scripts that explains how they're to be used? Before I go digging through the script hierarchy I'm hoping someone can point me to documentation to make the process easier. kickstart ks.cfg file on USB devices

Is there an easy way to specify the proper device location for the kickstart configuration file if it is on a USB flash or USB floppy drive? Depending on the hard disk configuration they might by /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc. On SuSE'autoyast instalattions, the system searches all available devices for an ``info'' configuration file. Mail problems? Need help finding this process!

Hello All, I can't get this one figured out. The few search hits I get on it suggest it is mail-related, but I don't even know how that was determined. Apr 11 12:18:17 mxt root: Process did not exit cleanly, returned 255 with signal 0 I get one of these per minute. I can't seem to tweak for more verbosity. Could someone tell me what is going on or point me to a place to start troubleshooting this? CentOS 5 final fully updated Sendmail 8.13.8 Dovecot 1.01 MailScanner 4.68.8 SpamAssassin 3.2.4 ClamAV 0.92.1 My milters have been turned off for troubleshooting. Thanks, Glenn

[Rpm/Yum - Enabled Exception Qt]

ssl and NameVirtualHost

I recently aquired a Verisign SSL certificate for my web server on Centos 4, with apache 2.0.59 from centosplus. It however doesn't seem to be working the way I've set it up, browsers connect but are told the certiticate is not recognized. Showing more info, the information looks correct. I think it has probably to do with the fact that I'm using the certificate on a virtual named host, and I wonder If any body has experience doing this? A few places in the apache documentation suggest that SSL cannot be used with name based virtual hosting, but I don't if that means, not at all, or not with multiple named hosts. I have multiple NameVirtualHost on port 80, but will only plan to use one of the names on port 443. The start of the section in my ssl.conf goes like this: <VirtualHost _default_:443> ServerName nameprotected.domain.edu:443 ServerAdmin me(a)domain.edu DocumentRoot /var/www/docs/nameprotected nameprotected.domain.edu is a DNS CNAME to the actual host. How do folks do SSL and virtual hosts? multiple IP addresses is not an option for me. TIA Tony Schreiner
