poppler-utils missing pdftoppm

A bit of Googling and I found where pdftoppm is supposed to be included with poppler-utils package. I check on my FC 7 system which is running poppler-utils poppler-utils-0.5.4-7.fc7, and pdftoppm is physically there and located in /usr/bin. I'm running CentOS 5 with poppler-utils-0.5.4-4.3.el5_1. Is this a bug? Or is this resolvable? Samba GUI interface

CentOS 5.1 I was just trying to add users and shares to Samba from GUI interface. I've already added users from command line. Regardless, when I go to select users the existing users is blank. When I add a user if it already exists I get a complaint that user exists. If I add a new user from GUI it does not get added to the blank list. OK I just added a user from gui, applied it [HIT OK] went back and tried to add user again but when hitting [OK] complained that user exists. Seems things are working except listing existing users in interface. I can live with this but I'm about to upgrade a server at work and ultimately I was hoping my Windows Sys Admin could manage to administrate Samba. I don't think this will be possible without a GUI.

Set hardware clock manually

I can't reboot a server to set the hardware clock to UTC time, but CentOS was installed with the assumption that the PC was running UTC. Is it possible to update the hardware clock to the right time and therefore allow CentOS to maintain the right time without rebooting? I am hoping to use this route for consistency versus changing how CentOS interprets the time so all servers are the same. Thanks! jlc

system smtp server question

If I have a production mailserver and a series of Linux servers that all develop mail from logging etc, it seems slightly redundant to have so many smtp servers installed on each of those boxes simply forwarding mail as I choose to not have local delivery. Is there a mechanism possible in CentOS to setup a pointer to a different mailserver such that programs like mailx could still send mail? Currently I have postfix setup with maps so that root on server A has mail sent from root(a)server-a.fqdn<mailto:root@server-a.fqdn> and that is relayed to my production box. It just seems like it is an additional service to manage on so many hosts? Thanks! jlc

Dependency problem in heartbeat-ldirectord update for Centos 4.6

64 bit and 32 bit are mixed up

Hello I have installed Centos 5.1 on 64 bit servers, and I see some of the packages have been installed two times, one for i386 and one for 64 bits. I don't know why i386 packages can be installed on 64 bit machine and why they should come together, even some times when I am searching yum repository , I see i386 and x64 packages. shouldn't the search result depend on server architecture ?

drbd82 RPMS for testing

All, There are drbd82 RPMS for CentOS-4 and CentOS-5 (i386 and x86_64) for testing here: http://people.centos.org/~hughesjr/drbd/ These are designed to be able to live in the same repository as the current STABLE versions. These RPMS are designed as CONFLICTS and not upgrades as there may be some manual actions to upgrade, especially on CentOS-4. RPM for perl-svn-notify?

Hi List, Is it possible to get an rpm built and added into the plus or dag repos for the perl module svn-notify? (Note: not the same as svn- notify-mirror.) I know it's been brought up before that perl's internal CPAN build/ install can cause serious conflicts with the rpm-based approach; if there are other / better ways of doing this in a standard fashion, please let me know. Seamonkey (with plugins) as Firefox replacement?

Hi, I'm running CentOS 5.1 with the GNOME desktop in all our public libraries around here. I start from a minimal install stripped down to the bones, install X11, GNOME, and then one application per task. I try to follow some best-of-the-breed logic, and my focus lies on robustness to avoid the Tamagotchi syndrome :o) Recently I've been rather disappointed with Mozilla Firefox, which crashes more and more often (this has already been developed elsewhere on this list). On one of my machines, I'm running Slackware Linux 12.0, with an XFCE desktop and the latest Mozilla Seamonkey browser. This browser gives me entire satisfaction: light on RAM, fast, and (almost) never crashes. So the idea is simple: install Seamonkey instead of Firefox. Now I'd like to integrate things cleanly, not install it additionally to Firefox. My main concern now are plugins, namely Flash (flash-plugin) and MPlayer (mplayerplug-in, never knew why that hyphen wandered off :o)). I'd like to do things cleanly, so I have a vague idea. Tell me if this sounds reasonable: 1) Install Seamonkey from latest SRPM. 2) Install flash-plugin from SRPM, but modify the .spec file so it depends on Seamonkey instead of Firefox. 3) Do the same thing with the MPlayer plugin. 4) (I never succeeded to install the Java plugin, I guess I'll leave that for after I'm dead :o/ ) Eventually, create my own repo with the resulting RPMS, and define priorities for Yum so that my own packages are used first. Sounds feasible? Or does someone have a better suggestion? Cheers, Niki

Wireless DELL M90 with CentOS 5.1 - pb with key encryption

Hi, I have a laptop DELL M90 with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card. I'm using centOS 5.1 kernel 2.6.18-53 i386. I installed ndiswrapper v 1.52 I installed the driver http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R164255.EXE The wireless-tools is v 28.2 When I trying to connect to my wireless access point with encryption key disabled everything work fine !!!! When I enabled the encryption key on my wireless access point with à 128b WEP it's impossible to connect to it. If I need to connect to the same wifi access with an ancryption key (WEP 128b) it's impossible :-( I receved the message that the laptop cannot get an IP Adress. The same laptop under Windows can connect to the same wireless acces point with encryption key enable ou disable (WEP 128b) The result when Encryption key is off and the laptop is connect.
