Changing video cards - fixing X

X does not seem to understand automagically the change in video even though the new video info is in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf So what steps are needed to get X fixed?

Hi, I have tried to customize start menu icon, however i still could not find where the centos icon in the up left corner just before the "Applications" menu is. I already try /usr/share/pixmaps/redhat/* or /usr/share/icon/*. Any other directories should i look at? thanks. --beast

NCQ in the 2.6.18 kernel

Hi All, Newbie here! I was wondering if anyone has succeeded in getting NCQ enabled with the ServerWorks chipset in the 2.6.18 kernel. Mapping to Samba

Using GUI methods (read: easy for most users), is there a way to map to a Samba share and have it accessible to all applications? Going through Nautilus I'm able to create a link to the shares, but they're not accessible from many applications. And, obviously, this is going to be something that changes per user (different mappings, different credentials, etc), so I can't use a static mapping on the machines. I could live with /etc/fstab entries if they could be dynamically adjusted based on the user that's logging into the system. How do other people handle this situation? Thanks, Scott

NIS probs - Login and no home dir -help

I'm trying to configure two things on my RH 5 server with dual-boot CentOS 5 (out-of-box) and Windows XP w/SP2 (fully patched) clients: - NIS/NFS: I have managed to get user logins, but all accounts produce Can't Find Home Directory, Using Root! The error logs, when trying to mount any NFS directory, is the server claims permission denied. I've reviewed many web pages and reviewed my config files carefully. Just a matter of finding the winning config. Firewall and SELinux are disabled, and the machines have been rebooted many times. - Samba: Ideally, I think if I can get NIS/NFS working fine, it would make sense that when Windows users log in (I've gotten samba to permit the XP systems to be added to samba with samba acting as the PDC), they log into their UNIX accounts. But, upon attempted login, Windows produces the famed small alert window saying Roaming Profiles cannot be located, Windows is creating a temporary environment that will not be saved upon logout. What is the magical Samba config/line to permit Samba/domain logins to read from the server's UNIX side and give the Windows domain user their UNIX home directory for login, and have their UNIX home directory as a mapped drive (effectively their roaming profile)? centos5 iptables expert needed

Hello, I'm setting up a centos5 router for a friend. It will direct traffic to an internal webserver, already in place, as well as run squid proxy. It should do nat and have a firewall with iptables. I've set up routers before for this purpose but always of the bsd type and using their firewalls. I understand the concepts, nat, packet filtering, etc. but i'm not getting iptales at all. If anyone is an expert on this i'd appreciate hearing from you. I have what are probably basic questions, i've read the docs, but i am lost. Thanks. Dave.

Any DNS zone files generation tools to recommend?

Hi, Any one would like to suggest an tool for large-sacle multiple-networks, multiple-views DNS zone files automatic generation? The DNS configuration tool comes with Centos 5 distribution, system-config-bind, looks like more improvment is in need; I've come upon a tool h2n, which create zone files from a static hosts file, looks like better. But I don't know pupular the h2n perl script is in use, and whether there are any other better/modern tool(s) to begin with. Any one can shed a light on this topic?
