Heartbeat for Centos 5- Can't build RPMS or install prebuilt RPMS

I am stuck. This is X86_64 platform. In the extras repos, there is the SRPMS for heartbeat along with the RPMS for it. I have downloaded both. But I can't build the RPMS from the SRPM as it fails compiling something in BUILD/heartbeat-2.0.8/lib/crm/pengine Additionally, I can't install the RPMS: rpm -Uvh heartbeat-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.i386.rpm heartbeat-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm heartbeat-pils-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.i386.rpm heartbeat-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm heartbeat-stonith-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.i386.rpm heartbeat-stonith-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libperl.so is needed by heartbeat-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.i386 but perl is installed. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

How to add to EPEL wishlist?

Does anyone know how to submit wishes to the EPEL Wishlist here? http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/WishList It reads "Immutable Page". They say: "Please add packages that are part of Fedora but lack a EPEL maintainer to this list", but there is no way to do that! They don't say if "Packages part of Fedora" means "Core" or it can be Extras too, but packages obviously missing from RHEL (4 and 5) and castrating the KDE desktop include: -- JuK (it was stripped off kdemultimedia); -- Kaffeine; -- gtk-qt-engine; ... As a side note for AmaroK lovers: I am very happy with the simpler JuK on systems where I have it, and it *does* have a future, as it will be present in KDE4 too: http://www.purinchu.net/wp/2007/06/26/juk-love/ But Red Hat _hates_ KDE apps, and it even castrates official KDE packages such as kdemultimedia... CentOS 5.0 suspend to disk (hibernate)

The RHEL 5 release notes for their desktop version claim "Improved ACPI support with features such as suspend to disk" but this isn't working with CentOS 5. I've installed all the packages and updates for CentOS 5 i386 on a ThinkPad T43 but when selecting suspend, Gnome pops up a URL to a site that didn't seem to give a solution. Gnome makes an entry in /var/log/messages indicating that the suspend button was pressed, immediately followed by the "Resuming computer" message. Suspend to ram and suspend to disk work on Ubuntu 6.10 on this machine with an older kernel (2.6.17-10-generic) than CentOS 5 has. Are there some packages or a different kernel that should be installed? Will this feature be added to CentOS 5 or is it considered a server distro that doesn't need this? Thinkwiki.org mentions the swsusp program but it seems to be absent. CentOS 4 and CentOS 5 have been running well on this machine but having the suspend feature would be very nice. AX25 kernel compile help

Is there someone who can help me compile who can compile the latest kernel with ax25 and other item related to ROSE / NETRom ect. stuff for a project I am working on? I have looked at Knoppix and what not but the kernel seems to be out of date a little. I like the looks and feel of the centos format and the GUI's that CentOS has and wanted to test it out in the Amateur Radio realm. Thanks Evans F. Therefore, I suspect that CentOS users would/should/could be interested in adding EPEL as an extra repository. You know, there is more than Karan[bir] and DAG on Earth... Vsftpd problem

Hi all, I have a filesystem which I need to make available through ftp ( vsftpd ). I have this as separate filesystem as it needs to be available through apache and NFS also. It's our local mirror. I've set up vsftpd and put a test directory in /var/ftp/pub and it works. However I can't seem to get it to see the separate /mirrors filesystem. I've tried using symlinks as below in /var/ftp/pub. drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jun 26 10:53 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jun 22 12:11 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 25 Jun 22 12:21 .message drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jun 22 15:25 TEST lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Jun 26 10:53 mirrors -> /mirrors I this case the TEST directory works but the mirrors directory does not. ftp> cd mirrors 550 Failed to change directory. I've also tried using mount --bind to remount the the /mirrors filesystem as /var/ftp/pub/mirrors. snmpd log messages

I updated to CentOS 4.5 yesterday and now I am finding the snmpd daemon is logging reams and reams of these messages: May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: Connection from - 127.0.0.1 May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: transport socket = 12 Is there a way to turn off this useless logging? I am getting these every 5 minutes (every time MRTG updates my MailScanner statistics). So far what I tried was to take off the -a switch when starting snmpd. That didn't help. This snmpd behavior is new from CentOS 4.4. -- Paul (ganci(a)nurdog.com)

Firefox and Thunderbird 2.0, Centos 5, and rpms

I am making some progress on my Centos 5 notebook build. So I am looking at Firefox and Thunderbird 2.0. Should I install them? Or is Redhat correct that there is nothing improved here and wait for 3.0? (well I have not even had a chance to look at Thunderbird 2.0, that is new)? I have the install steps we covered here back on 2/2/07; but are there rpms? I did not find anything over at ATrpms. Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

empty /var/log/messages

I have one centos 4.0 server which /var/log/messages was always empty (0 bytes). I wonder what has been blocking the syslog to write the log. Other (syslog) log files are fine, only messages. /etc/syslog.conf: # Log anything (except mail) of level info or higher. # Don't log private authentication messages! *.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none;spampd.none -/var/log/messages .thanks
