The do not say it because Watts = Volts x Amps ONLY in DC or 100% resistive AC loads. If it is an inductive load, it isn't that simple, that is why they have `VA', `Volts x Amps', ratings. There can be a phase difference between the voltage and current, thus the `Wattage' is less than the `VA' rating. A `1500VA' UPS is going to list less than `1500 Watts'. Just check out any UPS manufacturerer's specs. and the `VA' and wattage ratings will be different. To be safe, I take the voltage rating of the equipment and multiply it by the current rating to come up with the `VA' rating. I know APC says to not go over 80% of the UPS rated load, so take your `VA' value and divide by 0.80 to get the `VA' rating you want your UPS to be. This will probably give you an UPS a little bigger than you need, but it is better to be a bit too large than too small. -- Brent L. Bates (UNIX Sys. Admin.) Hi, I am using this document along with the following links to try and assemble a GFS set of mahcines: 1. Log on as the root user. 2. Run up2date --installall --channel Label for Red Hat Cluster Suite. The following example shows running the command for i386 RPMs: # up2date --installall --channel rhel-i386-as-4-cluster 3. (Optional) If you are installing Red Hat GFS, run up2date --installall --channel Label for Red Hat GFS. Getting Samba to work in CentOS 4.4

I'm trying to access files on a networked Windows machine from my linux box (CentOS 4.4) using SMBFS mounting but it doesn't work. I've checked the Service Configuration and there's no sign of the smb entry in the list. Do I have to install this additionally and if so how, as I thought it would be installed as part of the standard workstation package? Andy

Can't start X with latest CentOS 50. kernel

Nvidia driver for 6200 LE video card. No problems with CentOS 4.5. When installed (not upgraded) 5.0 X would not start. X works fine with 2.6.18-8.1.3.el5 but only with xorg.conf as written for 4.5 Haven't seen traffic regarding this problem. Has anyone else seen this? SAMBA in CentOS 5, shared level

First, I checked if there were any precompiled nvidia drivers in the various repos (rpmforge, ...), but there seemed to be only recent drivers. I then opened /etc/X11/xorg.conf, searched for the Driver section and replaced "nv" by "nvidia". To be on the safe side, I rebooted. (I've had some strange GDM problems before when simply doing init 5). My default screen resolution on my 17'' flat monitor is 1024x768. (The CentOS installer defaulted to 1280x1024, but I manually edited xorg.conf to change it). Now, after starting X with the "nvidia" driver, curiously I had a resolution that looked more like 800x600 (and curiously reminded me of a default Windows 95 install :o)) I opened a console with Ctrl-Alt-F6, opened /etc/X11/xorg.conf to look for a mistake... and noticed something strange. xorg.conf looks now curiously amputated.
