Coping music from tapes

OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. Hi, I have some old music tapes and a walkman, and want to move the music to mp3 format. So far I am thinking to use Audacity to record the music to wavs, and then do not know, somehow I will compress the wavs to mp3s as vbr 192 Kbps with something. Has anyone done this? What app did you use for recording the music from the tapes and what app did you use to make it mp3? Unfortunately my mp3 player doesn't support ogg vorbis, so this is not an option. Thanks in advance.

Two Linux books I recommend

I would like to recommend two (2) Linux books that might be helpful to some of the people reading this mailing list: (1) "Red Hat Fedora and Enterprise Linux Bible", by Christopher Negus. Published by Wiley. Buy the edition for the version of CentOS you are using. This book is very easy to read and is probably best for Beginning to Intermediate users. This is the book I reach for first. (Disclaimer: I wrote a review that was published in one edition of the book and I received free copies of two editions. I have also purchased several editions) (2) "Running Linux", published by O'Reilly. This book is a classic and was recommended to me by an engineer at Red Hat. I have the 4th edition, but there is a later edition available. This book is a tougher read, but, it goes into things more deeply than the other book I recommend. Probably best for Intermediate and Advanced users. I've purchased 2 or 3 editions of this book. There are probably many other excellent Linux books available that others can recommend, especially about specific topics. HTH, Lanny

What does this mean: PCI: BIOS Bug: MCFG area at e0000000 is not E820-resreved PCI: Not using MMCONFIG H/w config: Xeon 2.80GHz 6GB memory AMI BIOS SE7520BD22.86B.P.07.30.0067 WDC 500GB PATA drive (/dev/sde) RocketRaid 182x RAID with 4 500GB drives in non-RAID config (/dev/sda-sdd) This is new with CentOS 5.0 (no problems like this on 4.4 or 4.5). Xen and overall system load

In a CentOS 5 dom0, how does one find out the overall system load? In the early days of Xen, I believe an uptime on dom0 provides an overall load for the server. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

sata_via freeze

Hi all, I have a machine with a Assus P5VD2-MX, it has a VIA chipset. The problem is sometimes without any reason all freeze, can't use network and when I type a command in shell occur a I/O error. I already test memory, and the problem are in two similars machines. I see in CentOS foruns someone with the same problem using the sata_via driver but without an answer. I'm running Centos 5, in BIOS disable Jmicron raid, and the sata is in IDE mode. Thanks all.

Oh, I just remembered something else. We were getting a memory error too, either on startup or shutdown, I don't remember which (someone else was actually doing all the work, I just helped a little). After turning off the swap option, the error disappeared.
