yum and wildcard problems

I am having trouble using wildcards ("*") with yum in Centos 5. Listing or installing packages using them just immeidately fails with a "No match" error, and I'm not sure why. Here is an example. Any comments? I'd love to fix this. [root@granta ~]# ps -e | grep yum 2706 ? 00:00:22 yum-updatesd [root@granta ~]# yum list | grep kern kernel.x86_64 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 installed kernel-devel.x86_64 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 installed kernel-headers.x86_64 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 installed kernel-doc.noarch 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 updates kernel-xen.x86_64 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 updates kernel-xen-devel.x86_64 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 updates yum-kernel-module.noarch 1.0.3-1.el5.centos extras [root@granta ~]# yum list kern* yum: No match. [root@granta ~]# yum list kernel Loading "installonlyn" plugin Setting up repositories Reading repository metadata in from local files Installed Packages kernel.x86_64 2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 installed [root@granta ~]# Similarly, something like "yum install xorg-x11-font*" would fail with a "No match" error, but the packages show up in a full list. The machine is a fresh x86_64 install from DVD, yesterday. I previously ran CentOS 4.4 on it with no problems. -Brian

moving CentOS to a larger disk

Hello, I've got a CentOS 4.4 box that it's drive is dying. This machine has a lot of customizations done to it, custom configs and the like and i'd rather not have to do a full reinstall or manually copy over settings files. What i'm wondering is is there a way i can set up the new disk, make it bootable, then transfer the entire system over to it? I would then pull out the failing drive set the new one to be master, and go on with things? Recently i've had to do this on a FreeBSD system for pretty much the same reason, all data and settings went over fine and i'd like to have the same success here. Thanks. Dave.

where is xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.37.7.i386?

Hi all, I don't see xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.37.7.i386.rpm in the CentOS4 x86_64 updates repo. It is listed in the security announcement: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2007-April/013658.html I see the 4 other i386 packages there: devel, deprecated-libs, Mesa-libGL, and Mesa-libGLU. CentOS 3 - net-snmp startup issue

Hi I have been using snmp for 'years' but never came accross this issue before. On starting i get this Apr 17 15:42:20 server snmpd: snmpd startup succeeded Apr 17 15:42:21 server snmpd[29630]: Error opening specified endpoint "udp:161" Apr 17 15:42:21 server snmpd[29630]: Server Exiting with code 1 i have googled this but cant find a solution - does anyone have any hints? thanks

Formatting hdb?

Dear friends: Using Centos 5. I have two physical drives. During install, I made sure to check hdb as well as hda. Both were listed as partitions (which is correct). But my fstab file does not show hdb. How do I make sure that hdb has been formatted and is part of my file system. If hdb is not formatted, how do I format it, please. Sorry for the question.
